- After I learned that my childhood estate was going to be redeveloped, writing this poem helped me understand the process. I hope it's useful to all residents of St Raphael's Estate, and other communities going through the same thing.

Wow. I feel so proud watching this beautiful intelligent young man representing St Raphaels Estate where I grew up.
Honestly I learnt more about life, about people, different cultures, religions, backgrounds etc than I ever did at school. I tasted the nicest food from all over the world. The most heartwarming thing of all was my Mum's funeral in St Patrick's Church, St Raphaels Estate. There were people in attendance that had never once set foot in a Church before.... But they turned up. From the morning my Mum passed away at home (cancer, aged 45) until the morning we flew to Ireland to bury her at home as she wanted, we had neighbours supporting us. There was huge pots, trays and boxes of food from Jamaica, Dominica, India, Turkey to name a few being taken round to us to save us from cooking because we weren't in a good place. The love and support that was shown to us in St Raphaels Estate. Even throughout her long battle with cancer, will stay with me forever. I would hate to see the estate getting destroyed because all estates have their own share of issues but very few estates have that genuine closeness and mutual respect when it is needed on the estate. My only issue is that the kids do not have enough to do. The council should be giving them a building for music, dance, sports, gym and they should bring people in who can mentor them, for example ex criminals who have gone straight, people who grew up in Raphs and have made it big etc etc
This poem has obviously really touched me because I haven't stopped writing.
I will always have a special place in my heart for St Raphaels Estate. Blessings to you all from Ireland. ❤️🙏
💯❤
Brent Council dont care about us residents. Took the Community Centre away, now trying to offer it back by knocking down the Estate. Infills option all the way much luv for St Raphs let peeps get on with their lives. Just needs likkle TLC proper maintenance.

I’m proud to say I live in St Raphaels estate
💯💯
Came across this by accident, opening scene filmed outside my old row, Owen way. Lived here in my younger years through the 80’s.
So much community spirit
All dayers hosted by the women’s workshop, mass games of rounders on that green lol kids vs adults, camps in the woods & rope swings across the canal.
I feel lucky I grew up there,
St. Raphs 💕
there is a st.Raphaels estate nw10 group on facebook
Brought up here in the 80´s and love that place till the day I die. Wish we still had the community centre,
Man ...Nothing like home...St Raphs... #BesantWay

Wonderful use of your talent and platform. Beautifully done mate. I don't live on your estate but I am proud to come from the same city as you.
1:14 My Old Yard 44 besant way... That place made me. Big up George for paying homage and engaging with regeneration/gentrification. DB
You wrapped up a delicate subject with poetry and served it bitter-sweet like a piece of dark chocolate.
You’re a gem, George.
Your ability for lyricism and the calmness you spit, with actual facts, is what pushes me on to make music, not because i think i good but because u make me enjoy it,,
thanks mate
'Because of crime & things like that' she having a laugh -things like what? She doesnt even know the reasons to demolish straphs. Over Monks Park 'Brent Cllr Mo Butt head' neck of the woods crime rate is higher. London has crime everywhere. Brent-liar-council Screams money making & Gentrification. You're not knocking down my house. I love where I live ♥♡ st raphs
Yes Georgie "Tell dem straight I'm from St Raphael est" Don't trust deh Council & the rest of dem advisors - Gentrification 💯nah tek my fam home
I live there
1:17 'The Council say the enz is getting renewed, cus loads of houses is overcrowded'... Weak excuses for demolition...
All about money for dem rogue brent councillors. Gentrification
council don't care trying to get to us youths thinking we idiots
I echoe that weak excuses
This is an ad and I wonder how much he got paid...
Amazing. We need more people to speak up for the people.
Eloquently delivered message...interspersing factual pieces within the spokenword element is a mic drop!
Keep making a stand. Residents support is essential. 👏👏👏
Hes back 🥰❤
You different my bro🔥
Brentcouncil nah touch St Raphs waant deh infill
Soo nice to hear him and ponder about his words
All I can hear is the voice on the bus - 92, to St Raphael's North
That doesn't even go to the estate. Only the 232 does.
Gentrification Rich man tek over
my inspiration, gave me goosebumps
Your message wasn’t clear to me! All I see and hear is an ad for Brent Council. If you can say you’re from st Raphaels with your chest- then say no to infill and knocking down the areas to build their fancy new homes. They will kick you out!!!
Very informative and objective, if only I could like it twice
Doing bits, so amazing ❤️
George has a unique and engaging way of educating the masses
Woow, um tearing up. Man!!!
very true ,sad,well done
Beautiful and insightful. Thank you George.
Sick as usual just keep doing you George 💯
church road to st raphs !!
George you are brilliant 🙌🏻
powerfull 🙏🏼
There is nothing inherently horrible about that estate. It is just an ordinary council estate. It is not a horrific slum ghetto. It is in Neasden, for heaven's sake. It is a nondescript but pleasant enough suburb in North West London. This fellow George carries on as though he comes from a background of horrific deprivation and violence, but I just don't believe that to be the case. I think problems with gangs have more to do with black youth subculture than any institutionalised racial oppression.
I agree. If you walk through the est in comparison to many est out there it is quite pleasant. lovely green areas, very open & bright. It is not a horrific deprived violent place that george has pictured. Yes there is some problems from time to time but that could be said anywhere in london & nationwide.
New buildings simply cannot change people/youths mindset. I love where I live ♡♥♡
Where in this video did he imply that it was a “horrific ghetto slum”??? Or that he’s had a tough life??? The narrative was the polar opposite. Also what does this have to do with race???
St Raphs was a different place back in the 90’s and early 2000’s
🙏❤️
Yoooo bro
Got a lot of love for st Ralph’s got a couple mates from there

Excellent Work
who is here becuase of online english work?
Not a big fan of st Raphs personally
George
I lived on North Circular Road and St Raphaels estate from birth to mid 20's. The estate was being built and my playground when I was a kiddie the early 70s. I still can remember the rats running around us when we played on the building site. The place was built in a different way, to different standards, for a different time. Maybe its time to change and improve and grow. The area needs to get rid of the bad influences and get some love, attention and improvement
I think either Im getting confused or others are.
Option 1 is to infill and the Council will go ahead and do what they want, build where they can.
Option 2 is complete redevelopment where the council will draw up a plan and consult with residents before starting to build.
George is supporting Option 2. The residents will stay, just in nicer homes.
Stonebridge was redeveloped and all my neighbours are around the new estate, just got rid of those old concrete blocks we had. Built houses and flats and green spaces.
I moved to stonebridge estate when I was a kid, development happened in 2004 and im still here, in a house with a garden. Much better than the 5th floor flat we had.
Good luck to St Raphs, residents need to ensure they attend the meetings and vote when they can to see the changes they want
how do you know what George is supporting, for my understanding he loves st raphs, st raphs is different then Stonebridge, we only have house/maisonettes here and low rise flats and lot of open space, majority of the estate want infill option so they can stay in there homes
No we're not confused, yr the one whos stupid so much so I'm amused,
stick in Stonebridge & keep the hell out of st Raphs business .
We're fine in our homes who the f*** said that we're not
Why wld we want their tight 7+ floor blocks,
You said you had high rise, to want to escape dat is no surpise,
We got only 2, so who's better off??? You meddling fool,
we got our houses & more green space than you,
Infill all the way & we say that with chest
Much luv for st Raphael est.
