We've have a 1 acre pond that has existed for 80 years. Two years ago an invasive plant started growing on all edges of the pond. It's growing toward the center. It appears to be Water Primrose!
I would guess it takes up about 25% of the pond surface. It's almost impossible to fish from the bank anymore. Since the pond has been weed free for 89 years, I assume something in the environment has changed.
We leased our land to a cattle farmer. He was not authorized to plant any crop but he ended up planting a hay field and I suspect that he fertilized, which caused our issue. That's the only thing I can think of anyway.
I haven't researched how to get rid of it yet but I know how to get rid of the guy leasing the land.

In the rocky ford lake their is a weed i dont know its name but in the lake this weed grows and produces these Barrel looking stickers that poke and stick on to your feet if stepped on they are kinda hard to pull off since it has sharp spines all over it. I dont know if u know what kinda lake plant it may be and how to get rid of them?

Is Reward expensive ? Like over 100.00$/Quart ?

+markup357 No, it's cheap (relatively speaking) but it fries a lot of things. It also kills the weeds REALLY fast, which if the water body is a small or mid sized area, can cause the O2 in the water to drop due to decaying weeds and that, not the herbicide, leads to fish kills. They have slower acting chemicals, but they cost more and do less harm to non targets. If you needed to treat a large area, then another idea is to treat say just 1/3rd at a time, and wait 2-3 weeks in between treatments. Also, weed growth tends to be seasonal and when most people are out in the water, late spring, summer and early fall. Aquatic Weed control is a LONG TERM management issue, few cases allow you to do one cheap treatments and then that's it.
