Thank you for stopping by! I am glad you had a good time. A gentle correction, though: Every person you saw in that convention center was a Furry. The ones in costume are called "Fursuiters," the costumes themselves being "Fursuits." We hope you'll join us for the full weekend next year!
Thank you for the correction. I had no idea. I thought furries were the ones who dressed up but now I know the term fursuiter! I guess technically now, I'm a furry!
Spirit of the Wild You can certainly make your own, but as All Hyenas Dance said, you don't need a suit to attend conventions, as you saw in this video! Making a fursuit still takes a lot of time though and the fur will eat up your wallet. If you want the fur to last and look good, you'd want high quality stuff which is often upwards of $20 per yard. I've talked to people who made their own suits and said that even though building it yourself is cheaper than commissioning, it is still often over $100/$200 to make.
+Alachia Queen Aww, well don't feel bad, watching you walk through a hall full of furries and being heartbroken that you couldn't find many was just adorable. And i do not know if you were made aware of it later on, but a few of the fursuiters in the dance competition were females, if you're interested, I know at least Tayerr was there and if i recall Alex was too. And if you go next year, try and keep an eye out for Telephone :p Not sure if she is going, but if you can find her you will melt with adorableness. There's a lot of great female fursuiters, but the problem is that the suit makes it difficult to tell the gender. The best thing to do is to ask in terms of yes and no.
+Alachia Queen Not to be rude, but I thought you'd know this type of thing if you went to a FURRY con x'D. Does suck that you didn't see many fursuiters.
As far as what animal you should be, that's completely up to you. Most people don't just decide on an "animal". They create and design an entire character that's called a "fursona" and it's basically their inner self. This is why so many people feel so attached to their suits and love it, because it's a part of them in a sense.
I'm fursuiter from Finland - I would love to visit some day Anthrocon! Those tables where they sell all those amazing stuff... Aaah I would buy everything! XD
I have to say that after watching your video I'm very happy to see a fresh and opened mind step into what is currently known as the largest furry convention in the world and take things as they see it without a terribly twisted mindset that society usually paints on people. Seeing your honest reactions and genuine curiosity is a very wonderful thing to me as I've seen many non-furs walk through the doors and into the event with an idea in their minds that our fandom is nothing but perversion. I have not looked through many of the comments that are already here on this video, but if you have questions, I'm more than happy to help you find answers. I've been within the fandom for nearly 10 years now and have done my best to help folks better understand what the furry fandom is all about.
My personal experience. I once wore a full cover professional quality mask. It was like I transformed. I could be what ever I wanted to act out. I wasn't me. All the inhibitions that are (sadly) a part of my being evaporated. I couldn't explain it even now, but it was like something took over. I have never felt such freedom!
7:14 !!! Crescent! My fellow Crux buddy! His suit is super awesome. Did you know he's making his girlfriend a suit like his except with inverted coloration? (His is red and white, hers will also be red and white but inverted!) I'm so glad you saw him! :D
Mismatch hmmm. I wish I knew what my favorite animal was.. I love a lot of them.. lambs, rabbits, dogs, cats... I thought about doing a costume of my dog daisy cuz she's my favorite thing in the world.
Mismatch Part Yorkshire Terrier/Part Maltese. Right now, her hair si super cute cuz the bangs are uber long.. gives a lot of personality. I would probably do something like that for my headpiece.
That'd be adorable! I think the most important part would be to get a drawing of it done, or do one yourself. That way you can plan it even better. :) Reference is perfect. Like people who plan out a cosplay for an Anime Con or something, they have a reference to look at. Also, you can decide if you want your suit to be Toonie or Realistic-looking. It'd still be walking-upright usually, but it's a big difference for the eyes. :)
***** I would love to go to Anthrocon every year and do a video. Apparently, I missed a lot of awesome stuff on Friday and Saturday. Hopefully I can go back next year.
I'm sorry that you only got to see Anthrocon on Sunday! The reason you hardly saw anyone on Sunday morning, is because everyone was out waaaay late partying! Next year, if you plan to visit, at least go on Saturday - then, you'll see fursuiters to your hearts content at the fursuit parade! 1,300+ fursuits for your viewing pleasure! Also, the terms are a little different - EVERYONE that was there is a furry, while the ones wearing the costumes are called fursuiters! If you'll be back again next year, I'd be glad to talk your ear off about anything!
Thanks! I'd love a furry guide for my next furry con. I didn't know the distinction between furry and fursuiter. Good to know. I can't believe I missed the rave, floor dance wars, and the parade!!! I also saw a video of fursuiters bowling. it was so cute.
I really liked your video! It's great to see you had a good time at AC, it's nice to see a video and point of view from someone who had at least at the time been from 'the outside looking in' you could say. Hopefully you will make it to another convention, MFF would be a great one for you, especially if you arrived Friday or Saturday. If you love fursuiters you will love the parade! If you have any more questions about the fandom I'd be happy to help you out! It's funny that you commented about all the men in the fandom. When I was new to the fandom, being a female I was baffled by it too. Though the more conventions I've gone to the more I saw there are more females than you think. Quite a few fursuiters tend to be men though not all of course but a lot of them.
the reason why there are not many fursuiters is because in general not many people have suits and they are extreamly expensive so not many people can afford them.. also all thos people around you are furries, furries are people who like anthropomorphic animals.. so you are one too
Glad you had fun at AC! Seconding a comment below mine. MFF: midwest furfest would be another good convention to check out, its large but isn't as spread out as anthrocon so its easier to find lots of fursuiters in one area! c:
Thank you for visiting the biggest fur con! I am a new builder, making my own suits and for my closest friends. I am also an artist, thank you for being so respectful to even the oddballs of our wonderful fandom
I loved watching this. Anthrocon was so much fun and far more interesting than I was expecting. It's a shame we didn't see more of the dance competition. Next year! ;)
thanks for the distinction. It wasn't until I posted this video that people told me the difference! I think I should make a Furry FAQ from all the information I've learned in the last month!
You should totalyl hit up the con again! =D busiest days are friday and saturday but a ton of people also get there on thursday, some even get there on wednesday.
Glad you like us!! 😄 I know I'm like 3 years in the future (lol) but if you ever need help with furry terminology I can teach you a few things^^ I've been in the fandom for a while. Also funny story, A study has shown guys in the furry fandom out number the girls! And with fursuiters it's hard to tell because their fursona (The character or "Furry persona" they made to represent themselves) May be the opposite gender of them. Since your fursona can be whatever you'd like. Like with me my fursona is a male named Kaldar but I am actually female irl. :)
I had to go back on it a couple of times but that was me out of suit at 11:18 - 11:20 and again at 12:00 - 12:03 in the background :D great video and I'm glad you had a great time!
Did she really say that she is in anthrocon and has not seen many Furries yet? -_- geez can't even be arsed to explain it to yet another person on the internet! You don't need a Fursuit to be a furry! And if you like Furries and everything about the fandom in definition you are a furry! Yay Furries FTW! I don't even think this comment section is active anymore...
Next time, I highly recommend that you go to a smaller convention. Maybe Midwest Furfest or Furry Weekend Atlanta! :D It's a lot of fun at all furry conventions but the smaller cons have a smaller space to use so there will never be a moment without a fursuiter nearby. The best way to interview a furry is by asking them online before meeting them. That way they won't feel pressured and could be prepared for any questions. Also, fursuiting is sooooo fun! You should definitely make one or at least start with a tail~
If you want to make a suit, there are many options to look into- you can go toony, realistic or semi-realistic ( which is a mix of the two, the colors often don't "blend" and the color differences are more sudden ), and if you want a resin based head or foam based head, and that takes you even further- if you want a foam head will you want it to be balaclava based ( which is cooler ) Or "bucket headed". The fur is often upwards of $20 a yard, and going cheap isn't the best option as low quality fur doesn't feel super great nor does it last long. Mischief makers has a great tutorial on balaclava based toony foam heads, and numerous tutorials can be found for things like tails, hands, and feet. I encourage you to research the pros and cons of fursuiting. They are known to be very hot, and people often start with just "partial suits" which usually only consist of heads, hands, feet, and a tail, instead of a "full suit" which has the entire body like you may expect. Fursuiters are also known to have diminished vision and no peripheral vision as well as reduced hearing. Many fursuiting panels cover this, and are often uploaded onto youtube! Many people say fursuiting is a rewarding experience, as they say that it helps with shyness and feeling more accepted as well as making people happy. As for what animal, look up different animals and ask yourself what features you would want to have. Would you want to fly, have a long tail, what kind of "muzzle" or nose shape you would want, ect. If you can't find a single type of animal that you can decide on, you can create your own! I noticed you said you had a dog you adore, basing a character off of your dog is an excellent idea!
Make an animal that represents you the most. Or be an animal that you enjoy the most. Or combine them, to make a hybrid. Its all up to you, and how you feel about an animal.
Actually you were surrounded by furries we don't have to have a full fursuit to be a furrie you can just have a tail and ears or nothing I personally don't have a fursuit!!!
Loved your video!! I'm actually going to AC in two days and i'm totally stoked! I'm actually a female fursuiter haha! I think in the recent years, females in the fandom has definitely started to rise!
Wow... This looks like it is so much fun and would make a forever lasting memorable experience. I wish I could go to an Arthrocon in one of my own suits I make for myself... But never do they come to where I live! I could go to a Comicon in one... There just would be as many fursuits. There would be a few, hopefully.
It is really nice to see someone outside of the furry fandom who is curious and actually takes the time to see what a furry con is about and doesn't fallow what the masses think Furries are. ^.^
I've spent months on my suit. When you know what the suit is made of, you become overly cautious of stuff. And I've only been a furry for at most 4 months. I wish I had a fursona to make into a suit. I just throw needles and thread around and stuff appears. I made a 99/100 partial. It's a whole suit, but the pants are mostly black pants. The gloves are the hardest I think, because do I make 4 or 5 fingers? How big is too big or small too small?... I find it relaxing and fun to wear ^_^
Furries have such wild imaginations and are some of the most amazing people I've met. I'm getting my head base soon so I can go to the Midwest Fur Fest. I'm surprised you didn't run into some of the popular fursuiters like Telephone or Flux
REEDDEATH that is so sweet of you!! I'd love that! Unfortunately, I'm not able to make it this year due to unforseen travel costs with a death in the family. I'm hoping to find a furry convention in Texas to attend locally! Thank you so much though! Please send me pictures!
Alachia Queen Aww sorry to hear that. I'll make video of the con for you then!~ Also if you find a furry con there go to the "zoo" they have, that's normally where the fursuiters love to hang out!~
Don't ask us on what animal you should be. When creating a fursona, it's all up to you! The animal should really reflect your personality and when choosing designs and colors, be creative~
Maybe if I can make a costume by then, I'll try to go. Hard to justify a plane ride out there otherwise. I do know we have some kind of furry con here in Texas. I have no idea if it is good or not.
Alachia Queen Texas Furry Fiesta in Dallas February 20th to the 22nd. www.furryfiesta.org/ not as big as Anthrocon but 1,800+ people is a good number. :)
I'd LOVE to go to Anthrocon someday (I live in more or less the same area as MFF)...if only JUST for the chance to hear/ meet Uncle Kage...but now, after seeing that the dealers room can have magic cards...I think I need to increase my budget for it by at least 3 'cause the dealers room will kill my wallet alone.
One thing i would like to comment on is you saying you wanted to interview furries. That might not be easy as a lot of us are now shy to the camera after being barraged by news crews. Best get a select group that feels safe with knowing the footage wont be altered much. With saying that, If you are at Anthrocon Next Year, I am willing to be interviewed. I'm not a fursuiter, But I'm a furry that will be fine with most questions.
Hey there! Great video! So I was curious about why you had Anthrocon on your bucket list? Are you a furry or a furry fan? Or were you just curious about what you could find there? I'm also very happy to hear you had such a wonderful time at Anthrocon. I hope you go again this year for more Magic: the Gathering fun! They do have a game room where you can actually play Magic: The Gathering. Just wanted to let you know that in case you didn't know! But anyway, great video and I think you'd make a great Red Panda! A little shy, a little awkward, but in an adorable sort of way. Well, take care!
Louis Terhar Ever since I learned about Furries years ago, I've always had a fascination. I've been drawn to the idea of fursuiters for a long time but as it was quite a social taboo and I had only joked about going to Anthrocon since I discovered it a few years ago. You don't now what to expect, like a morbid fascination with something you know interests you but you can't explain why. And for the longest time, I knew no one who would even consider going with me. SOOO I'm glad I got to go. Furries are just the most amazing group of people I've ever met. So nice and loving and accepting. And I finally figured out my fascination. I like the idea of animals personified, of anthropomorphism which is usually generally accepted as an acceptable "love for" when you're eight years old but not so much when you are thirty. Hope that kind of answers your question!
I'm glad you had fun at AC! Welcome to the Furry Community! I think you would make an awesome rabbit fursuiter. Maybe lavender? Hopefully, you can visit us on Saturday, next year, and catch the Fursuit Parade.
Seems like you had a great time at Anthrocon! There are plenty of furry cons popping up around the country so there is probably a big event not too far from you. I am lucky to be in Northern California and there are two which are Further Confusion and Biggest Little Fur Con in Reno, NV (which is amazing BTW.. furry go karting.. no joke :)
Thanks for your awesome video, it was one of the furst I've ever seen of a furcon and I was sold. After seeing this, I've been to one con and five furry meetups, and have made an entire genre of friends! Thanks for posting and showing how awesome and diverse the furry community really is. PS: The song Life by Tobu really fit well, and since you introduced me to him, I've listened to him daily. Thank you so much.
+vanamburgben wow. that's so awesome to hear! I was bummed I wasn't able to attend the following year's Anthrocon. I was suprised myself at how awesome the furry cons and furries are. Just the best community!
2:05 that raptor jesus was offensive! only cuz it wasent covered in feathers lik it shud in real life, and that ugly outdated-as-hell allosaur-like head that no dromaeosaur ever possess. thats the only off. part.
Sorry to comment again but maybe it's just the Anthrocon convention that has more males have tails. At the Rainfurrest convention or Furnal Equinox convention more females seem to have tails.
What do they sell at the shop portion of AC? Like, do they sell actual fursuit PARTS? I know they sell tails, but do they sell feet or heads? Just wondering..
from what I saw there, they do sell the parts but more like for "order" as most of these are custom made to fit you and your fursuit. There weren't too many "generic" parts. I didn't realize it at the time, but most fursuits and fursonas are original and one of a kind.
Glad you enjoyed the con ^^ It's fun to be in fursuit and getting reactions out of othed people Making one can be difficult but once it's finished, it's well worth the work. if you need tutorials on it there's always youtube or the fursuitjournal website
I'm going to make my own suit during the summer or sometime after because that's when I get my money. Also its going to be a fennec 😄 I think a cat would suit you best
I think you know already that there are furries without fursuits and the artists are also furries. A lot of the creative people are females and thus quite busy at conventions. And of course, you are always welcome at a furry convention even without a fursuit. I am a furry for about 8 years (okay, actually a scaly) and I still don't own one. Just have fun, that's what this is about. A furry dance is much better than any Disney party. With more fluffy animals, and for adults.
ok im a girl and im a furry not all furries are boys there are a equal amount of boys and girls inthe furryfandom. i hope you will respond. thanks and have a nice day.
ima female fursuiter there's a lot of us just kinda hard to find in a large group of 6000 people. The auction you went to was also for charity if I am not mistaken :) Hope you make it back to ac and sweetie you do not need to be shy we are a great group of mostly friendly people
Thank you for stopping by! I am glad you had a good time.
A gentle correction, though: Every person you saw in that convention center was a Furry. The ones in costume are called "Fursuiters," the costumes themselves being "Fursuits."

Gaiastears FR A lot of people go for the first time not knowing what to expect or how things work. ^^
I'm a furry my animal is a fox
+Lizzy Bain my animal is a folf
I'm not a furry but I would definitely go to one of their cons because they look hella interesting.
I would recommend BLFC which in Reno, Anthrocon which is in Pittsburgh, Califur which is in Pomona, and MFF which is in Rosemont, Illinois.
hehehe, Stage One: Denial
(idc if this comment is old)
That was actually Raptor Jesus you saw. He went extinct for our sins. ^_^

What a cute report! Glad you had fun!
Glad I found a video with some Dealer's room footage!

I was looking up how to make a furry costume, most of the tutorial were by women so perhaps they were all in the costumes!

Alachia Queen yeah a lot of the suiters come out and are really active on saturday! sunday its sort of a wind down/say goodbyes day!

Mookie Studios awesome. maybe I can send you an email list of questions I have.. cuz I have SOOO many!!
Oh my gosh please do- I would be honored to answer, or send them to me on my channel :D
Mookie Studios i would absolutely speak for the younger part of the fandom.
You should totalyl hit up the con again! =D
busiest days are friday and saturday but a ton of people also get there on thursday, some even get there on wednesday.
One time I saw some cat paws at a Halloween store, that looked exactly like the ones the fursuiters wear, there were black and white ones!

I think in the recent years, females in the fandom has definitely started to rise!
come on gurl :D
join our furry family
Wow... This looks like it is so much fun and would make a forever lasting memorable experience. I wish I could go to an Arthrocon in one of my own suits I make for myself... But never do they come to where I live! I could go to a Comicon in one... There just would be as many fursuits. There would be a few, hopefully.
Alachia, are you going to Anthrocon 2015 in July this year?
I'm going to try. I want to hit up Friday and Saturday this time if possible because apparently I missed a lot of awesome stuff.
Well, if you're going, try to look for a Lilac/purple cat or Lilac/purple bear that go by either Silver(The Cat) or Tater(The Bear). :3
TheLeafstar329 i wan a go so bad!
TOKISHTOYS So do I, hopefully I will!
Everyone that goes to the convention is a furry XD Just because they dont have a fursuit doesn't mean they are not a furry. XD
Truuue
8:43 Greifer!! from Tilt xP
You should be some sort of cat >w< I really think a cat of some kind would really fit you~
+Zync- scruffz yeah. I think I would love to be a kitty cat. My favorite headband to wear is my black kitty ears.
Queen Alachia Hehe nice!
Uncle kage was at the auction!? Awww
I rly rly enjoyed this video!! Its a great deiction of what the con is acutually like!
You should come this year! I'd show you around myself and you'd meet lots of fursuiters ^3^
Glad you had fun there! You really should come to Midwest Furfest in Chicago! One of the best cons by far! I have been going there since 2009 :D
Maybe if I can make a costume by then, I'll try to go. Hard to justify a plane ride out there otherwise. I do know we have some kind of furry con here in Texas. I have no idea if it is good or not.
I have not been to the one in Texas. Just know its hot over there :P
Alachia Queen Texas Furry Fiesta in Dallas February 20th to the 22nd. www.furryfiesta.org/ not as big as Anthrocon but 1,800+ people is a good number. :)
💗💗💗
what song was that?
Actually a lot of girls are in the costumes as well
¿donde esta ese sitio?
+Ainhoa Marquez Megias Anthrocon Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
+Queen Alachia thanks
whats the fursuiter at 7:08 with red and white and he had the big long tail?
That's Cresent. They're a Crux 😁
I am lucky to be in Northern California and there are two which are Further Confusion and Biggest Little Fur Con in Reno, NV (which is amazing BTW.. furry go karting.. no joke :)
15:14 Wait, is Tayerr in this?
Nyaaa~!! I wanna fursuit sooo bad but I must stop growing first!! I'm only 14 and almost 6 feet tall ;-; not good cause I'm a girl...
Well wat you call "furrys" are actually fursuiters also furrys but a furry is someone who is interested in anthopermorthic animals and so on
WHERE IS Anthrocon cuse i wana go there!
I love the video, but what's the song that starts at 6:53? It doesn't seem to be any of the two you linked?
I believe it's Tobu-Life
Thank you!
Did you not meet telephone?
I didn't meet telephone but have seen a ton of her videos now on youtube!
I wish I could go to Anthro or Bronycon.... *sigh* I also wish I had a cosplay outfit for my OC...
2:05 that raptor jesus was offensive! only cuz it wasent covered in feathers lik it shud in real life, and that ugly outdated-as-hell allosaur-like head that no dromaeosaur ever possess. thats the only off. part.
Be one of us yup yup ^v^, as for species, you look like a sort of feline furry like a bengal tiger or a type of puma
Sorry to comment again but maybe it's just the Anthrocon convention that has more males have tails. At the Rainfurrest convention or Furnal Equinox convention more females seem to have tails.
I think you would best suit a red panda suit
idk are you very social like a beagle or shy like a bunny soft like a kitten or rambunctious as a Rottweiler ?
What do they sell at the shop portion of AC? Like, do they sell actual fursuit PARTS? I know they sell tails, but do they sell feet or heads? Just wondering..
from what I saw there, they do sell the parts but more like for "order" as most of these are custom made to fit you and your fursuit. There weren't too many "generic" parts. I didn't realize it at the time, but most fursuits and fursonas are original and one of a kind.
Alachia Queen Ah, now I get it. Thanks so much! :)
Gigan:me megalon, megaguirus and zilla are cosplay enthusiasts also orga has a fursuit don't ask me how he puts it on though.
Omg I must go to DAT store.
Glad you enjoyed the con ^^
It's fun to be in fursuit and getting reactions out of othed people
Making one can be difficult but once it's finished, it's well worth the work. if you need tutorials on it there's always youtube or the fursuitjournal website
Dragon angel. They are cool.
I'm going to make my own suit during the summer or sometime after because that's when I get my money. Also its going to be a fennec 😄 I think a cat would suit you best
Look at all that good stuff!!!!!!
Where was this flimed?
At anthrocon? :D
Yay!❤❤❤
I think you could be a light grey cat or something cute like that.
If you make a "fursona" or furry self, make it what ever animal you like or any combo of animals you like or represent you the best!
you can even do pokémon :D
Everyone at the dealers den was most likely a furry XD only about 19% of the fandom owns a fursuit.
Dapper furry!!! All I can think is my fave artist dapper deoxys
Hey Alachia, since someone suggested that you could be a cat, I could make you a character if you want. Just DM me if you want to.
Why does this give me deja vu
the furry con is kinda like comic con and I went there before! well comic con
One of us , one of us
I saw tayerr at the end
I'm really dying to get a fursuit!
There need to be more sergals and fennecs :) I'm a hybrid of the both lol
4:12 lol IT LS A TOOTH A TOOOOOOOTH
ima female fursuiter there's a lot of us just kinda hard to find in a large group of 6000 people. The auction you went to was also for charity if I am not mistaken :) Hope you make it back to ac and sweetie you do not need to be shy we are a great group of mostly friendly people
^_^ I loved this video so cute. I want to go to AC now :3 so much cute!!
