- We drywalled the ceiling of our tiny stone cabin renovation! - But it was HARD! 😅 GET UP TO 50% OFF in FOREO’S VALENTINE’S DAY DEALS: foreo.se/5hxq | Plus an EXTRA 10% off with our code ‘10LIFE’
When we began the transformation of this abandoned old stone house, the ancient terracotta roof was dangerously close to collapsing! It’s been a journey to get to this point but the roof was finally ready to be finished off with drywall. Exciting times! The only hiccup was that neither of us have ever hung plasterboard, let alone covered a ceiling! Oh, & did we mention it’s also 14ft high & vaulted?! EASY! 😂 But we had a plan (& a nifty tool) to make sure this job went as smoothly & safely as possible…or so we thought!
LIKE THIS VIDEO if you enjoyed it & SUBSCRIBE to follow our journey as we document our life here in Portugal & the many DIY projects that we'll be tackling including renovating a tiny stone home, setting up systems to grow some of our own food & finally restoring the 100+ year old farm house.
Also say hi in the comments! We'd love to hear from you 😊

We're Ricky & Victoria 👋 We're slowly bringing an abandoned off grid Portuguese farm back to life & transforming it into a beautiful homestead for us & our two rescue dogs Teddy & Poppy.
We both agree that we’re not experts in anything that we do here, however we don’t let that stop us from giving it a try. We live our life by trying. We live our life by doing. We live our LIFE BY LIVING.

I don't think a lot of this weeks viewers have watched from the beginning to know you have already insulated the roof. Well done guys, that's hard work. Thank you for sharing. ATB to you both.
Take care and stay safe. Hugs to the fur babies.😊
I was wondering why they didnt have insulation .. : )
I know I forgot about how the roof was insulated- that was a while ago!
yup. that would be me. seems like some 'stuff' could be placed above the drywall aka plasterboard. How are y'all going to access the electrics up in the roof? Did y'all mark "X" where the lights will be??
lol ha ha ha lol
Time is always ours to use slow or fast it's going to be done, it's the 200 hundred years looking at it after that counts 😂
What impresses me the most is how, even when facing challenges, you both remain smiling and positive. What beautiful souls you are 🤗💚💛💚
I love watching you two together. When I told my wife that I was watching Ricktoria, she asked me why I called it that. I told her that because it's Rick and Victoria, they are Ricktoria together!
In a crazy world you have no idea how calming it is watching you two plaster boarding a ceiling, but here I am🤷♀️
Yes I have a Christian counselling channel on UA-cam but I come here for my oxytocin boosts too xxx
I agree with is sentiment on your entire series. It is your energy, the editing and the music all of which makes a very relaxing show. Well done 😊
I’m unbelievably stressed!! 😫
When cutting drywall id always recommend 2 things, a mask and gloves. The dust makes your skin really dry and youll get little cuts opening up. At the very least keep your hands moisturised between cutting. Good luck!
The one thing about drywall, .... the mudding at the end fixes all mistakes. Here in the US we call that Green Board, good idea on using it instead of regular drywall. Good job I look forward to the next video.
Take all the time you can with your dogs😊 especially as they get older ❤ love your work guys, the ceiling looks great 👍
For someone who has not done this before, I think you have done Stirling work of it all. Your little stone cottage looks so beautiful when you walk up to it. Those shutters are stunning and the colour. Have a lovely day.
Well done both of you. Drywall on ceilings is a difficult proposition but you did great work. Please consider 'deadmen' for the next time (2x4 with crossbar on top). My first ceiling, age 71, done solo using deadmen to wedge, lift and hold the boards enabled me to use full size drywall without help. Best of luck with the build and the garden.
You may be a pair of novices, but you're a brilliant duo!!!
Thanks Wolff
You are such a cute couple
I never miss a episode
Having my coffee and enjoying and looking forward to see it all come together
😊❤
As you say every day is a school day, well done for persevering I think you both deserve a gold star🌟
Well done.
"Every day's a school day": love that! I didn't realize that you are "practicing" on the tiny house and will then tackle the main house with all your acquired skills. Great plan.
As soon as I saw your blue drywall I thought great idea! Drywalling and mudding and sanding is worth it once it's over, and like you said, it is practise for the big house. All the best.
It's green isn't it?!
This year I drywalled a 12 foot ceiling. I rented some schalfing to build a platform to work putting the drywall up. Less climbing completed a 44ft x13ft room in 10 hrs with 2 workers
Whenever you hit a problem, you always solve it. Great work you two. And yes the dog is earning her keep fantastic. ❤❤
In my garden and raised beds chickenshit was the best repellent for moles. I took one, sprinkled the shit. A few days later I made a circle around the first lot, afew days later a bigger one ... and that way got the beasts driven out of the garden.
You are our favourites!
You two are something else. If it goes wrong you step back and come up with a new idea. It looks so good but I was wondering how you know where electrical goes . You covered it up before connecting all the wires.? That will be another adventure.
How long dies the Mike problem last?
Wishing you two a lovely Valentines
❤️❤️❤️
Goodness me. Everyone's a keyboard expert on roof installation, insulation, plasterboard installation..... 😅
Nice work guys. What a great job you're doing 😊
Good morning! So happy to see this this morning. 😊 I'm continually impressed by the things you two are able to accomplish together in these ongoing projects.
Good morning Tracy! Doing it ourselves is definitely the bumpier road to take 😁 but we love the challenge & learning new skills!
Always amazed by the things that you accomplish. I laughed out loud at the ending with the brownies. Love your channel
😁
Poppy knew you needed her! You always do good work. Hard working family!❤
Well done guys 😊
Happy Valentine's Day! Love and hugs to you and the pups from me in New Mexico USA.
Good job you two. Advice for ya would be when you screw in drywall (that what we call it here in usa) start in the middle and work you way out. Less risk of damage.
It's coming along nicely, plaster board is a nightmare to put up but its a sign of moving on to a nearly finished ceiling which is great
You two are the cutest and such hard workers! Great job! A big hug from sunny Florida.
Gm Victoria & Ricky! Unbelievable! I can’t imagine the pain in your arms while doing the ceiling! You are both such amazing hard working people. Glad you got a break ❤🙏🙏🙏Blessings
You guys are the most entertaining “homesteaders”, great work.
So wonderful to see you both take a bit of a break! The drywall looks amazing!! Happy Valentine’s Day to my favorite couple! ❤❤
Great video guys. Love to see Poppy doing her job😊. What a happy Monday seeing you two do your thing.
Don't beat your selves up, you have done an amazing job on the ceiling & you do need some down time with your doggies 🐶🐶💙❤️
Great job and a well-earned rest! The brownies looked delicious! Those oranges!!! Wow!!!
Well done guy's at least you managed to plaster board the roof space, you work really hard ❤
You guys are such a pleasure to watch. Much respect for your hard work and the love you have for your canine kids.
I watched you on my TV but could not comment. Good to see you. I love watching you two working together. Good morning from Virginia 🇺🇸
Good morning Carol!
It’s called balance, so lovely to see you relaxing. Love how you love your babies ❤
You guys are just amazing- love the progress on the tiny house. Can’t believe how far it’s come! Thank you for including us in the journey ❤️
Drywall is very forgiving thanks to tape & mud. You could put that ceiling up in 1 foot squares if you wanted to, that’d just be a heck of a lot more mudding & sanding!
Hi Victoria, I heard in one of your old videos that you have coeliac disease and that you have difficulty finding products. I have a suggestion that many Portuguese people adopt: travel to the city of Badajoz, on the border with Spain. From the centre of the country, it's a quick trip on the motorway. In Badajoz, you'll find a wide variety of products recommended for coeliacs at cheaper prices than in Portugal.
thanks for the tip! Will look into it 👍🏼
Good going on the drywall ceiling. Watching you brought me back to when my husband and I were drywalling the ceiling of our 1400 sq ft garage by ourselves. After the first 4 ft x 8 ft section was installed, I refused to help further until we cut them in half. Our ceiling height was only 10 ft, not like yours. Good for you that you were able to get yours done. It looks very good and will really highlight the beams.
🤣🤣 no insulation? I’m kidding guys, I know it’s above lol Best wishes from the old home town 👍🇬🇧❤️
😂
I wondered the same .
@@krisentwistle4839me too!
Such a shame the plasterboard lift didn’t help you, but you figured out a way that worked for you and that’s what’s important. The tiny house looks so good with the inside roof done, it really changes the look of it. You two make me laugh so much x
Your both doing a brilliant job
Thanks Sharon!😊
You guys crack me up 🤣🤣 have s great week.
😁 you too!
Wow, what a difference that makes! Such hard work. Teddy looks like he was enjoying the sun, lying there not moving a bit! Lol
My Monday was feeling a bit blah. Then I sat down to a cup of coffee and voila! A video from the dynamic duo! 😊😊😊😊😊
You guys are the sweetest & have such a great humor❣️
What a stunning sunset? 🌅 Well done guys 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💕💙
Another great video
You done a good job on the plaster boards
It looks good to me
And looking at the front of your little house
It looks pitcher perfect
I hear banjos🤣😂🤣. Well done you two...it looked like a really hard, high job getting the plasterboard in place, but what a difference it makes!
Estou anciosa para ver o projeto final , desde já agradeço cada vídeo por compartilhar parabéns ao casal. 😍❤👏👏👏🙏🇧🇷
obrigado 😊
Watching you guys from Florida. USA 🇺🇸
Hello Florida from this Virginia girl.
Looking good folks…. And so do the brownie’s!!
They were gluten free (aka usually dry as a bone 😁) but this mix was really moist & tasty!
Well done! Now you deserve a nice rest! Keep up the good work of showing how to persevere in difficult times. God bless you both ❤
You guys did a great job on getting the drywall boards up 👍.. teamwork 👍.. looks great guys .. plasterboard is not my favourite job tbh the dust kills me , prefer to wet plaster but it’s a killer on the shoulders lol .
Really interested in your door options, would love if you share the experience & rough costing 👍 .. we need custom doors for our place this year.
Have a great week
Yeah I think we can both now agree that plasterboarding isn't our favourite job either! 😁 We're going for aluminium windows & doors. The price has varied drastically between different suppliers. I would recommend finding a few local firms & getting quotes
@ tbh the ceiling is not the easiest area for the first time lol .. but hey your gonna be experts buy the time it’s taped & filled & sanded 👍. Will look awesome once completed eh
One of our dogs used to be good at getting rid of moles. One chap in the village saw him in action and checked his watch. Yes 11 and 14:00 he said. When they come out. Welcome to deep France🤣🤣🤞🤞❤
Great work. For using the platerboardlift for the first time. My husband did have a crisis from time to time.😃
I’m amazed at what you two can accomplish! Great job!
Exactly!
thanks!
Nice job on the drywall!! You two are killing it! Love that you took that beautiful sunny afternoon off and spent it with the dogs!
Brilliant couple
Thanks Rod! 😊
Happy (?) memories of plaster boarding our first house in the 70s, an old Victorian terrace house. With the help of a neighbour we worked off plastic milk crates tied together. What a boon those crates were to a DIYer with no spare cash. I made a cross frame out of 2 by 2, supported by a long length of 2 by 2. Somehow we balanced whole lengths of plaster boards and fixed them to the joists.
Every week, you amaze me more and more. Great job.
get a Gopher Hawk gadget/trap for the moles, easy to use and i have found the tool to be 80% successful
We use the gopher hawk too for gophers in our yard,it works!! Great video, you two are hard workers and making progress.
Aww, Geez..Now I want brownies! ❤
Realy coming together now. A little wood burner to use up scraps would be great to warm th inside and realy help to remove moisture as you progress pointing the inside. Maybe Ive missed the heating side of the build or maybe you havent talked about it yet. having a fire this weekeng realy does dry the air in a building. looking forwatd to the next video.
It’s great that you can laugh together as you work. Good job both of you. Lilian Australia ❤️
Ive used that plasterboard sanding tool in a smaller size for years to trim and smooth clay pieces. I believe it’s called a sureform.
Hi from Ferndale Michigan. I have done some drywall and the hardest part, for me, was accommodating where the down lights need to be cutout. You two are a favorite to watch.
Looking good!!
Always a trial at first, when you try something new, but my hat is off to both of you that you never give up. Wondering about cutting the holes for your lights before you screw down the plaster board.
we know where they are 😎
One step closer! Love you two 🙂
Moji zlatí , ďakujem za krásne video 💋❤❤❤❤❤
🥰
Ustedes son adorables.
Me encantan . Dios los bendiga , les escribo desde Venezuela . ❤😊
Y'all are doing a great job!! It looks so different. I hope you have a great day. Mud and tape is easy don't overthink it.
Love to watch you two work together!!! Job well done!
Gracias por sacarnos unas sonrisas y también por vuestro trabajo que va quedando perfecto, pues sois los dos solos para hacerlo.
Well done guys you did it 👏. Brownies looked yummy !😊
Well done you two. Epic vlog again😊
thanks!
Drywalling is right up near the top of "jobs I never ever want to do again" list. Keep plugging away ya'll, it's coming together nicely and soon you can put it in the rearview mirror.
Yeah it's definitely not one we'll be in a rush to do again!😁
This might be a stupid question . Would it be good to install some installation between the roof and the drywall ? Stay with it. You guys will build the tiny house into something that you will be so proud of.
All the best mates 👍👍❤❤ Jim, Harriet and Yuki
hey guys! No the vapour barrier & insulation are above the osb so no more insulation needed underneath 😎
What about insulation and cutting out for the electric boxes? As an ex-drywall finisher I have to cringe watching you. But for newbies I think you are doing a fantastic job. Your determination is admirable. Learning new skills takes a few do-overs to get it right but you are making good progress. Keep up the good work and I love watching your videos each week.
already insulated above & cutting the holes for the lights is the next job on the to do list 😎
No need to cringe dude, they're saving a FORTUNE NOT paying people like you to do the work.....
..... and, actually it's pretty simple work, isn't it......!!
@@andymccabe6712 Well, NOT simple when the job is first-time, working above shoulder height with an unwieldy weight, on scaffolding, always looking up and not straight ahead, holding with one hand while screwing in with the other on a reach, on an 'A' frame (compared to horizontal) ceiling, hour after hour and figuring all this out as you go. I have 30 years' experience and IMHO for their first go they have done a tremendous job.
Made me smile.😊
Nice progress.
You both are fun to watch 😊
I didn't know that those plasterboard lifts would reach so high , cool
We purposefully bought one that goes higher than the standard lift. It's a bit sketchy though when it gets to full extension! 😁
You deserved the brownie cake. Another arm aching job to tick off of the list, well done.
Such a fun couple.
Question please. How will the void above the sheetrock ventilate? You have the space between the rafters blocked off with cross pieces. I love watching the progress......
Great idea to cut the boards, all the joints are covered anyway... you made it look like a professional job, keep up the good work. Thanks for the video.
Love you both.
🥰
You've got a high ceiling, my husband and I did the same in our kitchen Reno with smaller pieces and we only had 8 feet to reach. Yes you will have more mudding but no mishaps.
You are both absolutely brilliant
I truly can’t wait to see it finished It’s already looking amazing ❤
Looks awesome ❤❤❤
Fabulous job guys!😅
thanks!
Do you have the electrics mapped out on the ceiling to make the cuts in the plasterboard when installing the lights?
Definitely does, he is the most meticulous person I've ever seen!
In Australia we'd use stud adhesive to help hold it up as well as the screws.
Love watching you guys.. been with you since the very start!
You’ve certainly inspired our own channel.. would love to have you along too! Love from UK neighbours in Alentejo! Xx
respect for you both, serious...
Thanks Ricky and Victoria for your vid 😇💗💗💗love and bless you guys 😊good work on the sealing 🙂👍nice to see the dogs
