Well technically that same passage you quoted talks about how this is the second death. Eternal separation from God is complete elimination of the soul. Not Eternal hell fire.

He shed his blood to cover our sin.. he took God's wrath.. he took our hell, and in turn he gives you his righteousness. What a loving God! Why would you take a chance on holding onto your own righteousness which is as filthy rags according to the Bible. You see friend, we are all sinners in need of a Saviour! If you trust that Jesus Christ paid it all for you, ask him to forgive you for your sin and save your soul. Romans 10:13 says for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Even as someone who was lost and blind trying to curate the gospel to my flesh i came to a conclusion that for you to simply reject half the gospel half the truth your rejecting half the Bible and god completely because you can’t pick and choose parts of god you have to Accept him and his truth fully because when you truly know Jesus and have a relationship with him you have faith that he is good and that he will remind you how and most of the time he does reveal how and why because we will never fully understand his ways with our limited human minds because we’re not god but till we are in his presence in heaven we will probably know ✝️🤍

Hell is defined as "the separation from God."
In other words, the separation or lack of Love. God is Love, so without Love you experience Fear, selfishness, hatred, greed, jealousy, envy, anger, anxiety, loathing, hopelessness, and all the other lower human emotions.
That is Hell, and Hell exists currently for many people.
The contrast also holds true.
When we walk in Love: Selflessness, Patience, Kindness, Forgiveness, Acceptance, Wisdom, Peace, Joy, Happiness, wholly & Magnanimously, this is Heaven.
Love is God.
When we are walking with Love (God) we experience perfection, creation, and the universe lovingly unfolds, swaddling us as the Children we are Growing into the Stature of our Father.
