@ninjalifestyle howdy from a breeze local. I think everyone wants to hate on Andy because of the helmet and his goofy demeanor but his skateboarding is so undeniable and he can blend tricks from every era and also some flat ground and I think he’s not the “typical “ street skater so he gets hate. But he is no doubt one of the most talented skaters in skate history. It’s unorthodox but it’s evolving the sport. I’m team Andy

I whole heartedly disagree with what of the things you’re saying with “lame tricks” or “stupid ticks” the blending of street with freestyle is very inspirational, and who cares if he wears a helmet, his skating speaks for himself, as TONK HAWK has said Andy Anderson is an all terrain vehicle

I'm so glad you reviewed this part! Thing is, not that this impresses you haha, he is paying homage to many skaters in this video. He is literally skating spots that inspired him and in ways that playfully honor the spot and skaters before him. The foot on the rail push is Gou Miyagi thing, that vert ramp line is on Tony Hawk's ramp I believe filmed by Tony's filmer, the Natas spin to front crook is his twist on a Jamie Foy front crook, the freestyle trick you skipped on that circle he had to dig up in Venice is a literal Rodney Mullen spot etc. I'm sure there is so much more I'm forgetting or don't even know about. But to me, the thought put into all that is super sick. In a day and age of boring Vans videos and videos celebrating Ollie after Ollie with fake steeze, the thoughtfulness and effort put into this is super rad. Not to mention he is actually very consistent and talented. 😊

I think Andy and Nyjah Huston's have a lot in common when it comes to their video parts. 99.99% of skaters can't do their tricks. Andy is amazing. I loved every trick in his part. U can literally see the entire history of skateboarding watching andy for 5 mins. Everyone of his tricks is either an NBD or a very specific trick he learned out of love for those who came before him and his encyclopedia mind of skate history. Theres no hill bombs, dress codes, fake steez, or taking the easy way out for Andy. If it's a huge rail, Andy's stepping to the rail. Being able to skate everything is the creative thinking we all had as children. Andy is a product of never losing that creative mind. Andy actually learned the skills needed to make it possible. Andy is only worried about getting better every day and pushing what's possible on a board. If u told T-Funk tomorrow that switch hill bombs and fake steez are gay, u would never see him do a hill bomb with wacky arms again, guaranteed. People have been telling Andy freestyle is gay his whole life, and all Andy does is learn a new freestyle trick. That's the difference between Andy and everybody else.

I disagree about the mega rail. Without slowing yourself down it’s not possible. You’d go too fast and the turn is too sharp. You’d just launch off the side to your death. No one could do it without altering it. He just made it possible the only way you could. It’s still gnarly regardless.

Andy Anderson is great and all, I agree with you on the creativity front, love to see it, his style is freestyle based and then some. Most tricks, soooo slow man, it takes away from it. The rail mod thing is lame, yes I think Nyjah could legit do that rail, it would almost be kinda cool to see someone one up him, as we've seen rails get crazier and crazier. It had its moments, but it's not my favourite content out there. Dont care about the helmet and clothing style either. Great part with some odd characteristics. The natas spin crook was indeed my favourite from it, that was pretty dope

  • @smoked-old-fashioned-hh7lo
    @smoked-old-fashioned-hh7lo Місяць тому +4

i don't know if that rail is possible, but if it is, the trick would almost be entirely luck based. it's 16 stairs down to the corner. anyone that's skated a handrail knows how fast that is and this is tall and steep. it's too fast to make that corner. you would have so few tries because if you commit at full speed you're falling off a cliff onto the ground. maybe 2 tries max and then come back in a month after you've recovered. even if you could do that, no one has the time to do it.

I haven't stepped on a skateboard since 2005, but I have been watching skate videos consistently since Birdhouse The End, and to this day continue to watch them (and always will). I have to say Andy Anderson has almost brought me out of retirement a few times over the years. His penchant for balance and the relationship he has with his board strikes a chord with me. Gimmicky props and goofy moves aside, the guy is the best at what he does.
He has the style and grace of Brian Lotti with the testicular fortitude and technical ability to match any of the modern day "stunt" guys. He's the best of all generations rolled into one, and continues to surprise me. (After 25 years of watching videos, you know what a skater is thinking - but not Andy.)
The nylon on the rail doesn't bother me too much, as I saw it as an ode to his insane balance - however, that said, I too see prop skating as a "tell tale" and I instantly lose respect for the skater whenever they bring out a sheet of MDF to eliminate a ledge or to make something smaller.
Who knows? I'm only 34, I could still get back into skating yet. I'm forever seeing guys around the Southbank area failing kickflips and bailing out of landable tricks. I still believe, that even with my dodgy knee and a tweaked back, that I could still catch a kickflip bolts and throw together a few decent lines.

When it comes to style I like Chris Chann more but it is undeniable that Andy is the most versatile and very skilled skater. If we take the goofy and freestyle tricks out though then there are a lot of good Japanese skaters who are good both in street and vert. And even though Andy's board control is incredible and his part was packed with cool lines, where he proved that he is very consistent with his tricks, I still was amazed much more by the Yuto Horigome's Tokyo part from last year.

Despite myiagi's tricks are probably less hard most of the times, they look way cooler, more entertaining, more inspiring and ultimately more artsy simply thanks to the way those tricks are matched with the filming.
In his video parts the filming itself does half of the job and probably with Anderson's part this factor has been underestimated since is filmed just like every other rider part is filmed, and he, like Myiagi, is not an average skater.

my favorite trick was the barrier wallie boardslide chain transfer. i enjoyed this part more than i thought i would. it wasn't perfect by any means but i think this part was more appealing to skaters than his typical fans. i saw a lot of complaining by his fans and a lot more appreciation by real skaters. now he just needs a good filmer/editor and we might have something.

Alright Ninja. I'm not a big fan of Andy either because of the cringe he gives me off the board, but the level of negativity or disrespect for what you think skating SHOULD BE, or just for the fact it is freestyle skating, was not cool at all.
I want to support you for your no f giving personality and even bought some merch back in the day, but where it's going recently is kinda lame. Best of luck to ya.

@@NinjaLifestyle Yeah I was a bit surprised for sure when I heard you rate it at the end because it definitely did not match what I was hearing throughout the video. It's probably not your style, but maybe it's time to sit down and watch your footage as a viewer to see how it comes across. Maybe it's next to impossible to do so objectively for the creator.

This part is absolutely epic…..the level of tricks and creativity combined with the unreal variety and his unique style makes this part one of the best skateboarding achievements ever…..waxing the sh…. out on obstacles is ok? But slowing one part down to make it skateable isn’t? Cmoon dude…..holding that grind at that low speed is an achievement on itself and this wouldn’t be possible without slowing it down on the upper part….cause it’s way to steep and way to fast to hold it through the kink…..I don’t think it’s physically even possible…..so get yourself together and give this the appreciation that it deserves!

the problem i have with the rail is that it's not visually pleasing to watch. outside of that, the legitimacy of this trick should be decided by his peers. if no one can skate this rail without altering it, i have no issue with it. skaters have been using shit to make spots possible forever. so that aspect doesn't bother me.

the yoga mat rail didn't bother me that much because he didn't try to hide it. i think it's a bit disingenuous to compare that to berra. the main reason berra got shit for that was because people tried to find those spots and they didn't exist. it would've been forgotten in a few years if he was honest.

Andy is very unique, and does things no one else is doing.... But its kind of out of neccesity. Time and time again, andy proves he cannot actualky hang eith the pros.
Im not pissing on the guy though. Hes really talented obviosly. But yeah, no pro would poat that clip of them on a rail, unless they could legit do it, like nyjah.
Hes too into the helmet, training wheel stuff. I dont know. Jaut not my thing. No hate on the guy at all.
But yeah, you nailed the take on andy. Kudos.

Agree on just about everything. Andy is incredibly talented, but his part imo is a mixed bag. 75% bangers, 25% leaves me scratching my head as to why it made the part.
His rocks line was incredible. Putting his foot on that rail & very slowly grinding it was super wack. Dark sliding the snake rail was incredible. Using the chain boardslide as his banger was really not the move.
It seems like hes too deep in the youtube scene to take his video parts to the next level. Its a tough spot to be in because he values his creativity highly, and utilizing a more core skating video director may conflict with what andy believes in.
I think thats the biggest flaw in this video part - it lacks a cohesive style & direction. Im rooting for andy, but i dont think he will ever be able to put out a video part of a truly high, professional caliber. He just doesnt have the right people in his circle to accomplish it.

I Miss the dyi, punk rock attitude of 80s and 90s skating that wasn't a high school girl popularity contest
