The Pegaso Z-102 is a familiar but extremely rare car. I have only seen two of these cars. The Z-102 is the only car that Pegaso ever built. Following WW2 things were difficult in Europe and most people couldn’t even buy a very basic car and having built this just one model which didn’t sell because people simply didn’t have the money. Pegaso then decided to concentrate on commercial vehicles. The ENASA organization Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones SA built their first truck in 1949. They had factories in Madrid and Barcelona. I notice the car in the video has Madrid registration. Pegaso built many trucks and buses until the 1990’s when they became part of IVECO and the name Pegaso was discontinued.
Franco must have been keeping those all to himself, because this is the first time I've ever heard of this car.... I'm very surprised something so cool could come out of Spain. And an overhead cam V-8 5spd from the early mid 50's is almost mind blowing. That reverse shift pattern would sure take some getting used to. Thanks again Lou.
Amazing car. One of your best finds Lou. I hadn’t heard of this car before, in fact the only Spanish made car that I could come up with was SEAT or Spanish Fiat. Thanks!!
They were produced with three different engines: 2.5, 2.8 and 3.2 litre, all V8s with power up to 200 HP. The engine was Pegaso design and fabrication. The designer of the car was a Spanish guy working at the time in Alfa Romeo, as a boss even in Formula 1 called Wilfredo Ricart. Only 84 Pegasos were produced. It is estimated that only around 60 exist today. About 10 years ago somebody paid 585.000 euro for one in an auction.
Fabulous looking car. Congratulations, Dear Mr. Fudge, your Father would be very proud! There is one in Portugal, at the Caramulo Museum. The Problem with Pegasos was the production high cost. A great deal more than a Jaguar, Ferrari or Maserati.
