Anyone else find it weird that us white folks call ourselves "ex-pats" when we move to another country, but we call darker skinned people "immigrants" when they move to another country?
Hello Alanna, I'm so pleased your eyes are OK. Thanks for the brilliant "mess" of a video. I love that you're honest about the flaws whilst appreciating this country.
I married a Brit and became a UK citizen and am still one now. Lived there for 8 years and miss it like crazy! We visit for 1 month out of the year every year and I totally agree with you on many points about the UK. I hope you are doing ok through this terrible storm heading through the UK currently. I am sorry you have gone through a bit of depression, but just be grateful (which I am sure you are) to be there and doing what you are doing and seeing. The work life balance is totally spot on there I feel compared to the U.S. Also, I will move back there one day I believe. We currently live in Nashville, TN. By the way what do you do for work from home? Love you videos!

I guess ALLANA is getting use to living in the U.K. and bless her heart, I hope she keeps her UA-cam channel going. She is a gem that the Brits just might appreciate. I think she's delightfully honest and honesty IS SO RARE NOWADAYS, especially in the USA where honesty and decency doesn't appear very often.
I’m moving to the UK from the US to be with my fiancé who lives near Manchester and getting a fiancé visa soon! Definitely nervous but excited for a new chapter in my life. 🎉❤
There’s a girl from the US who also did this. She’s now married but has gone through hoops to get permanent residency. I think her channel is called ‘Sarah in Scotland’ (I think 😬) but she talks about it a lot on there. She may have some tips for you if you need any advice. Good luck on your move. I hope my country treats you well.
I honestly don’t get why people are obsessed with the weather in the UK, a drop of rain doesn’t stop us from doing anything. There’s no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing choices.
I have been to Canada but not since 1979, many of my Canadian cousins used to come over to the "homeland" (their mother was English, my dads sister), anyway not once did I hear anybody unable to say the word out properly, well with an accent but that was it. But now every Canadian I meet and everyone I hear on here cannot say "out" properly, you not all seem to pronounce "out" like a demented Scots man, in that you all now say "oot" instead of "out". When did you all start saying "oot". We had to learn French for 3 years in England in the 1970's. It was so interesting that I can still remember the French word for window, I can't remember how to spell it though. I had a deal with my French teacher Mr Bristol, if he left me alone I would leave him alone and that really worked for both of us. I also had similar arrangements with my German teacher and my English teacher so I wasn't being racist or biased.
Just a thought about getting around in London. The Tube is fantastic for travelling longer distances but, for shorter journeys, I much prefer taking the bus, as you did in this video. It gives a much better idea of where you are and what's around you and often it doesn't really take much longer than the Tube. So many tourists use the Tube for very short trips and, by the time they get down to the platform, wait for their train and get out of the station at the end of the journey, a bus ride could easily have got there in the same time - sometimes less. Anyway - always lovely to catch up with your adventure and good to know that your eye surgery has been a success.
I think the reason most visitors use the Tube is that it's just so much easier to navigate. Walk into any station and there's a map of the entire system. If you know the nearest station to your destination it's easy to work out which line you need and where to change trains. Unfortunately, it isn't so easy to find your way about the bus network without doing some homework in advance.

You mentioned the visa that you have to keep renewing. Please beg my pardon but I thought you had a partner (husband) so I was confused about the visa.
With the drab weather in Winter and being indoors a lot it's worth investigating a Vitamin D supplement? The lack of it can make you feel 'low' both physically and mentally. Just a thought, good video btw.
I suddenly started feeling depressed about a week ago too, Alanna, and I don’t normally feel that way. I’m glad I’m not the only one. Reckon it might be the change in season and darker evenings etc.
Sometimes I think we have to give ourselves permission to feel sad or low. It’s ok not to feel ok I think people only make it worse by telling themselves that they need to show the world a happy face all the time. I live in a suburb of Ottawa. On Oct 30, we had our first snowfall, Temperature minus 1/ Can't comment on transportation because we ge one city bus in the morning, another at night. The train service does not reach my part of town, and anyway, it doesn't really work most of the time

Hi Alanna, I have only recently found your channel so I am busily playing catch up. I don't think I'm alone in feeling a little down about life in England and your videos have made me realise that we still have much to be proud of. I used to live in Kent, near Sandwich, and my family comes from Faversham so you make me feel quite nostalgic about that beautiful county. I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos and I will continue my catch up on your experiences as time permits.
I really enjoyed this informal style of vid, Alanna 👌 Only a consummate media professional would be capable of carrying off this style. London's one of the greatest cities in the world for tourists and rich inhabitants and hell for the rest of us. Been there suffered that. The garden squares are such a lovely feature, perhaps use them, as a structure, to explore and video the non touristy parts more ? Good that you got one of the fastest trains in the UK - 140mph on HS1, that's a mahoosive contrast to Canada - perhaps try that next time you're over, for a laugh ?
Why would we tell you about the mascara or the dye? We're British, we want the joy of seeing you find out. 😁 Great video. I saw what you've been watching in your newsletter and I'd recommend The Burning Girls. It seems fairly standard at the beginning but the acting is good and it pulls together for the last episode. Give it a go.
Hi Alana good news about your eyes and enjoy viewing your videos especially your trips out, however i know you said you live in Kent but think it would be good for you sometime to see more of the north of the country speaking as a Yorkshire man. Maybe you will see differences and contrasts from the south be intersting an outsider (none British) point of view. Also think you would find Yorkshire a beautiful place to visit.
With winter coming & you having a desk job you might benefit from taking vitamin D3 & K2 MK7 supplement to help with your depression most of northern Europe don't get enough also take a good vitamin C supp too they work together 😃👍
I live in Buckinghamshire surrounded by gorgeous countryside but love that I can be in central London in 30/40 minutes (depending on the train) which is great for shopping or seeing a west end show!
Hi Alanna. Good to hear your eyes are doing well. Gotta say, it took me a little while to get used to you sans lunettes (let's see how much French you remember 😁), but I think you look fab. Thanks for the vid, entertaining as usual.
My daughter has just moved to Paris for 2 years, her French ok, but is not fluent.Fortunately her workplace is English speaking, however she is working with someone who has just arrived from French speaking Canada, and she cannot understand a word she says lol
I recently played a game (American football) in Detroit. Upon returning to the team hotel our driver made a wrong turn and we ended up by the US - Canadian border. Nobody had their Passports, but I wasn't worried because I was prepared to mention I am a Patreon supporter of Alanna and A&N which would of entitled us to VIP status by Border Patrol...🏈🇺🇸🇨🇦
@@AdventuresAndNapsit's like the episode of Frasier when they had to smuggle Daphne out of Canada. That series never explained whether Daphne gained US citizenship by becoming Mrs Crane.
My son lives in London and I think he is insane. Recently, though, I think I detect that he is maturing and starting to think (as any sensible person should) that London is a great place to visit, but living there is the very definition of insanity!:) So, I'm impressed with the Fish'n'chips, that looked really good but it semed to be bigger than you! The British thing is that you could have been *covered* in orange dye, but no-one would have said anything! :D If you're feeling bad in the winter, may be you are suffering from S.A.D.? (It sounds like you already have the diagnosis though) I hate the fact that as a commonwealth citizen you aren't entitled to live here - I aplogise for the current climate of xenophobia that certain politicians see fit to exploit. Keep up the videos they are interesting!
I have a special level of respect for those who can survive, let along thrive, in London. I’m not joking - I really respect them. I would lose my marble’s. I want to so much to enjoy all the things that London has to offer that you just can’t get anywhere else, but I start losing the plot, there, after a few hours. Respect!
Sorry to hear that you were feeling depressed. It would (I believe) cheer you up (and everyone else for that matter) if you were to plan another taste-test. Please, please please! There must be a coffee vlog in the works...or more beer and cider. After all, seasons greetings!🎅🍷🍺🎂
Has Alanna tried different types of coffee sold in the supermarkets or in the high street chains ? I know Alanna has done tea and biscuits, beer (tastes like beer) and Cider but cannot remember Coffee.
Hi,Alanna,at one point towards the end of the episode I found myself nodding at your statements,I almost felt like a psychiatrist as you unloaded your thoughts…Anywhooo you will be pleased to know that everything is normal😀🤣.Please…keep them coming, cheers Roly🇬🇧.
Not to spoil your video but that crescent you showed in your video is where a certain silver tracksuited DJ used to live. I knew one of his neighbours.
I think if you’re super cute, polite and fun to be around people not matter where they are from will be welcomed in most countries around the world. Britain is lucky to have you 😊
Can't agree more. Alanna is adorable, a bit like a younger sister. I think I have said it before but being in the EU damaged our links with our Commonwealth cousins. But I would say that, being the son of a Commonwealth subject.
@@hairyairey We joined the EU (EEC as it was then) 51 years ago, on 1st January 1972. Links to the Commonwealth were already getting slack back then and would have continued to do so, EEC/EC/EU or no EEC/EC/EU. Leaving has done major harm to our economy and world influence, the effects of which will be felt for decades to come. 😥
@@andypandy9013 very funny. We are making our own trade deals and we no longer have to pay the EU for shopping outside the EU. Where do you think the Windrush generation came from?
@@hairyairey I think you need to review 'our own trade deals'. Now that we are out of the world's biggest trading block we have lost our economic clout and have been taken to the cleaners by smaller economies such as your Commonwealth buddies Australia and New Zealand. Hi All Alanna, I have recently found your channel and enjoy your videos where you compare the US and Canada to the UK. I do sometimes cringe at the pronunciation of many of some English words that you try to say, ie Worcestershire, try saying it as worster - shire. Please, please STOP saying "anywho", I know what you mean but "anyhow" is what it is! I doubt you work 80% of the time as in a 24 hour period, that would be 19 hours and 12 minutes a day, which I seriously doubt?
Just depends whether the people disembarking the EUROSTAR at Saint Pancras (International) decide to return to where they came from i.e Holland or Paris, It would be nice if Trans Monge Link(TML) would cut two tunnels between Finland and Quebec Canada.
A young girl died in US, because she was trying to eke out her insulin, as she couldn't afford $200 for a new phial. It's free here, or approx 15 pounds per phial, if you prefer private care. It's shocking that people die for such basic items. The NHS may be creaking, but for free long-term care It's genius.
It's so heartening that there are SOME foreigners in the UK who follow the (expensive) protocols for staying here. An awful lot don't - and get subsidies for it as well, not only aided by taxpayers via the Home Office but also abetted by an army of soft-heart do-gooders and parasitic bulging-wallet lawyers (who know a good thing when they see it - guaranteed fees paid by taxpayers). I forget that you are here to support yourself and lead a constructive life, rather than the many who come here in search of the pot of gold. As for the relative costs of being in the UK compared to Canada (or USA), yes you have shelled out for visas, but (as you know) day-to-day living costs a lot less in the UK (unless you live in London and the commuter belt...). I wouldn't be the first person to say that living OUTSIDE the South/South-East of England (and the commuter dormitories of East Anglia) would be less expensive. Affluent foreigners come to the UK and think that London/southern prices are 'normal' because that's what things cost back home. Hint - it's not normal! As a native Brit, I couldn't possibly afford to live anywhere south of Birmingham, let alone closer to London, but I do OK near the Welsh border.
I live in zone 6, so I can catch a train into London, travel all round it all day in any zone with a number less than or equal to zone 6, i.e. zones 1 - 6, then get the train home again, all on a zone 6 travelcard. Those who live in zone 7 can go even further, but I don't think there are many areas that are in zone 7.
British weather if fine similar to Northern Pacific weather never really cold in South East rarely below Minus 4/5 🎉degree’s in summer normally 30 celcius max. No typhoons dark at 4pm in December, in June doesn’t get dark until 9,30 long spring summer days. Just make sure you have 10 days in sunshine in February to break winter up. Have been doing that for last 50 plus years.

Alanna is a really cool chick. 👌🐥 She seems like a lot of fun to be around and she is actually really fit🏃♀️
When using public transport that is pre-booked or limited, it is better to be 30 minutes early rather than 30 seconds late
I know someone, put blobs of cream on her face, forgot to rub them in, went around town and back, then noticed them🤣
It'll take a while to get used to you without the glasses (that should baffle the algorithm). Glad things are going okay.
i'm brazillian, thanks for the video
I really enjoyed this informal style of vid, Alanna 👌
Only a consummate media professional would be capable of carrying off this style.
Great video. I saw what you've been watching in your newsletter and I'd recommend The Burning Girls. It seems fairly standard at the beginning but the acting is good and it pulls together for the last episode. Give it a go.
I miss the glasses. They suit her. Like a modern day Deirdre.
I hardly think an ex British colonial is a foreigner.
Hey Girl!! please tell me where did you get that cool mug ?
Shouldn't London visitors be told that the City is travel contactless and you have to get a Oyster Card on arriving.
With winter coming & you having a desk job you might benefit from taking vitamin D3 & K2 MK7 supplement to help with your depression most of northern Europe don't get enough also take a good vitamin C supp too they work together 😃👍
When did 'anyhow' become 'anyhoo'? Must have missed that.
Alanna has used that phrase on and off for quite a while...😊
@@SteveMikre44 Yeah - but the thing is, she's not the only one
@@MeStevelyVery true...🤔
I live in Buckinghamshire surrounded by gorgeous countryside but love that I can be in central London in 30/40 minutes (depending on the train) which is great for shopping or seeing a west end show!
Those hidden bits of green space are surprisingly easy to find in London.
Hi Alanna. Good to hear your eyes are doing well. Gotta say, it took me a little while to get used to you sans lunettes (let's see how much French you remember 😁), but I think you look fab.
Thanks for the vid, entertaining as usual.
'Spiced Coffee'! Dang girl!
Don’t worry Alanna Richard Alfred Palmer is a subscriber of your good self your videos are Excellent 👍 Alanna ok seriously ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Allana. Take a walk along The Kings Road on a Saturday and you'll understand why nobody remarked on the dye.
Glad your eyes worked.
Understand why its so much more comfortable, no panic/terror of mislaying/losing your glasses.
This isn’t a come on. Ex Londoner now in France. You are beautiful. Keep going
My daughter has just moved to Paris for 2 years, her French ok, but is not fluent.Fortunately her workplace is English speaking, however she is working with someone who has just arrived from French speaking Canada, and she cannot understand a word she says lol
😂 to be fair, I wouldn't understand a word they say either lol hope your daughter is enjoying Paris!
Hi Alanna, without wanting you to give personal details away, can you give us some idea of what you currently do for work?
I recently played a game (American football) in Detroit. Upon returning to the team hotel our driver made a wrong turn and we ended up by the US - Canadian border. Nobody had their Passports, but I wasn't worried because I was prepared to mention I am a Patreon supporter of Alanna and A&N which would of entitled us to VIP status by Border Patrol...🏈🇺🇸🇨🇦
omggg Steve 😂😂
@@AdventuresAndNapsit's like the episode of Frasier when they had to smuggle Daphne out of Canada. That series never explained whether Daphne gained US citizenship by becoming Mrs Crane.
VIP accommodation at Southwest Detention Centre?
put sugar in your tea !!! x
My son lives in London and I think he is insane. Recently, though, I think I detect that he is maturing and starting to think (as any sensible person should) that London is a great place to visit, but living there is the very definition of insanity!:)
So, I'm impressed with the Fish'n'chips, that looked really good but it semed to be bigger than you!
The British thing is that you could have been *covered* in orange dye, but no-one would have said anything! :D
If you're feeling bad in the winter, may be you are suffering from S.A.D.? (It sounds like you already have the diagnosis though)
I hate the fact that as a commonwealth citizen you aren't entitled to live here - I aplogise for the current climate of xenophobia that certain politicians see fit to exploit.
Keep up the videos they are interesting!
I've lived in London for all of my 73 years and don't consider myself insane. The countyside creeps me out, I have to see the edges.
I have a special level of respect for those who can survive, let along thrive, in London. I’m not joking - I really respect them. I would lose my marble’s. I want to so much to enjoy all the things that London has to offer that you just can’t get anywhere else, but I start losing the plot, there, after a few hours. Respect!

Dear Alanna just had a steel mug of Yorkshire tea now it is 7:00 pm 31st of October 2023 .❤️❤️❤️.
Word to the wise. Chai means tea. So chai tea is like saying tea tea.
Should have found a greasy spoon and had egg and chips with a mug of tea would have been a lot cheaper.
Not to spoil your video but that crescent you showed in your video is where a certain silver tracksuited DJ used to live. I knew one of his neighbours.
Any more spooky happenings at your flat ?
I love living in West Kent. I can be in London within the hour, but I don't have to live there.
Super day trip to London! Great news about your eye balls too. I bet London, Ont is exactly the same as London, England 🤣🤣🤣
@@hairyairey
We joined the EU (EEC as it was then) 51 years ago, on 1st January 1972.
@@hairyairey
I think you need to review 'our own trade deals'. Now that we are out of the world's biggest trading block we have lost our economic clout and have been taken to the cleaners by smaller economies such as your Commonwealth buddies Australia and New Zealand.
You obviously haven't woken up and smelt the coffee yet. Have you? 🤔
@@andypandy9013 the EU share of world trade is falling, the Commonwealth share of world trade is increasing. Who would you pick? Plus we are still trading with the EU.
Hi Alanna. Steer clear of the mascara. We love you.
OMG, it's amazing how quickly that I as a viewer have gotten used to Alanna without glasses!
Hi Canuk Cuz: I took a screen shot of your outfit and sent it to my son & family in BC. My daughter-in-law sent me a photo of her leaving the house for work and you two dress identically. It must be a 🇨🇦 thing. An Ontarian in Kent and a Métis in N Van in sync, down to the baseball cap!! 😂🙄
Glad your eyes worked. Much better without specs.
That fish n chips actually looked very nice.
Hi All
Alanna, I have recently found your channel and enjoy your videos where you compare the US and Canada to the UK.
But your not foreign you are our family.
Just depends whether the people disembarking the EUROSTAR at Saint Pancras (International) decide to return to where they came from i.e Holland or Paris, It would be nice if Trans Monge Link(TML) would cut two tunnels between Finland and Quebec Canada.
the shaving brush microphone needs a name! any thoughts? ;p big love to all people :)

Life must be ok, if you are going to Harley Street for a doctor!
What is the closest that one could live to London and catch a "cheap" fare on the tube, and not pay the extra 25 ?
Eyes are good

Alanna's eyes are good.
For those that do know you are you still Alanna 😂? Also, haven't you lived in two Kent towns? Just to show I pay attention to your videos! I miss your secret signals to your MI5 handler via the undercouch 😂
Hi there !
I love your channel. I have commented sporadically before, but heres another 😂
Dirty Chai sounds aaamazing 😊
I had chai tea last year for the first time and was obsessed with it.
I will give that above a try because it sounds so perfect for Autumn 🍂 anything cloves cardamon and cinnamon... is a win for me.
Just a tip - try Golden Milk... aka Turmeric Milk.
It is very rich, and super comforting and I have an inkling you may like... if you want my honest suggestions I would love you to do a video on your first experience making and tasting it... as I am a sucker for your food / snack tasting and cooking posts as its how I found you back in 2020.
Anyhoo 😊 big hi from Manchester, where it is very autumnal / saturated in precipitation- which I also love ❤️
Thank you, Alanna !
All the best 👍
It's my dream to travel to the UK someday! It's such a beautiful and historic country.
Better make it soon: Some groups are solidly intent on removing all mention of history.....and making life hell for the British. Fact.
Excellent - but start planning now. Don't just 'dream': DO ;-)
