Babbel sounds good - like you I'm a victim of bad teaching, but in the UK, when we were given a list of 200 French verbs to learn over a weekend, and I switched off. I'm still angry about it as it would have been good to stimulate the language part of the brain, to make languages easier in future.

I'm UK expat in the US. Just retired. I've paid $180,000 in family heath insurance over 30 years. Still have to pay $150 a month. You can't appreciate the NHS till it's gtone.
I'm sure you have your reasons, but I'd never move to the USA. The UK has its problems and isn't perfect by any means, but the USA is just objectively worse in almost every way.

I guess ALLANA is getting use to living in the U.K. and bless her heart, I hope she keeps her UA-cam channel going. She is a gem that the Brits just might appreciate. I think she's delightfully honest and honesty IS SO RARE NOWADAYS, especially in the USA where honesty and decency doesn't appear very often.
I married a Brit and became a UK citizen and am still one now. Lived there for 8 years and miss it like crazy! We visit for 1 month out of the year every year and I totally agree with you on many points about the UK. I hope you are doing ok through this terrible storm heading through the UK currently.
I am sorry you have gone through a bit of depression, but just be grateful (which I am sure you are) to be there and doing what you are doing and seeing.
The work life balance is totally spot on there I feel compared to the U.S.
Also, I will move back there one day I believe. We currently live in Nashville, TN.

Winter is coming and bringing darker, shorter, colder days with it. It sometimes brings people down a bit. Christmas is on the way to cheer us up.
Not if some certain group have their way: Delusion is what Christmas is all about.... Right? Never forget: 22.05.2017. They won't.

There’s a girl from the US who also did this. She’s now married but has gone through hoops to get permanent residency. I think her channel is called ‘Sarah in Scotland’ (I think 😬) but she talks about it a lot on there. She may have some tips for you if you need any advice. Good luck on your move. Hi Allana. Take a walk along The Kings Road on a Saturday and you'll understand why nobody remarked on the dye.

Understand why its so much more comfortable, no panic/terror of mislaying/losing your glasses.
Just a thought about getting around in London. The Tube is fantastic for travelling longer distances but, for shorter journeys, I much prefer taking the bus, as you did in this video. It gives a much better idea of where you are and what's around you and often it doesn't really take much longer than the Tube. So many tourists use the Tube for very short trips and, by the time they get down to the platform, wait for their train and get out of the station at the end of the journey, a bus ride could easily have got there in the same time - sometimes less. Anyway - always lovely to catch up with your adventure and good to know that your eye surgery has been a success.
I think the reason most visitors use the Tube is that it's just so much easier to navigate. Walk into any station and there's a map of the entire system. If you know the nearest station to your destination it's easy to work out which line you need and where to change trains. Unfortunately, it isn't so easy to find your way about the bus network without doing some homework in advance.

Hi Alanna, I have only recently found your channel so I am busily playing catch up. I don't think I'm alone in feeling a little down about life in England and your videos have made me realise that we still have much to be proud of. I used to live in Kent, near Sandwich, and my family comes from Faversham so you make me feel quite nostalgic about that beautiful county. I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos and I will continue my catch up on your experiences as time permits.

Great videos. My 23 year old daughter in UK on Youth visa from tomorrow. We have been living in Vancouver for the past 15 years, previously in South Africa. We have enjoyed your journey. Given us/me some insight into UK life. We enjoy uour perspective and reality
When using public transport that is pre-booked or limited, it is better to be 30 minutes early rather than 30 seconds late

I suddenly started feeling depressed about a week ago too, Alanna, and I don’t normally feel that way. I’m glad I’m not the only one. Reckon it might be the change in season and darker evenings etc.
I find this every year, usually it starts in September. I think it’s due to the change of seasons. Hope you feel better soon!
Sometimes I think we have to give ourselves permission to feel sad or low. It’s ok not to feel ok I think people only make it worse by telling themselves that they need to show the world a happy face all the time. The best way to treat it is as an opportunity to learn and expand our empathy for others and compassion toward ourselves
Always enjoy your day trips and London looked cool - I haven't been for the longest of times. I kinda wish I could learn another language, so I did take a look at the deal you have gotten with Babbel. Love your positivity Alanna !

That fish n chips actually looked very nice.
I live in Buckinghamshire surrounded by gorgeous countryside but love that I can be in central London in 30/40 minutes (depending on the train) which is great for shopping or seeing a west end show!
I go to London from Wakefield and it can be between £14 and £28 - 200 miles - and takes two hours. Although, it’s a forty minute drive from Holmfirth to Wakefield.

Can't agree more. Alanna is adorable, a bit like a younger sister. I think I have said it before but being in the EU damaged our links with our Commonwealth cousins. But I would say that, being the son of a Commonwealth subject.

We joined the EU (EEC as it was then) 51 years ago, on 1st January 1972.
Links to the Commonwealth were already getting slack back then and would have continued to do so, EEC/EC/EU or no EEC/EC/EU.
Leaving has done major harm to our economy and world influence, the effects of which will be felt for decades to come. 😥

I think you need to review 'our own trade deals'. Now that we are out of the world's biggest trading block we have lost our economic clout and have been taken to the cleaners by smaller economies such as your Commonwealth buddies Australia and New Zealand.

Oddly great, in spite of the chaos, video. You often seem to get a bit low as the nights close in in England. Perhaps what cheered you up was spending time outdoors in direct sunlight!

London's one of the greatest cities in the world for tourists and rich inhabitants and hell for the rest of us. Been there suffered that.
The garden squares are such a lovely feature, perhaps use them, as a structure, to explore and video the non touristy parts more ?
Good that you got one of the fastest trains in the UK - 140mph on HS1, that's a mahoosive contrast to Canada - perhaps try that next time you're over, for a laugh ?

I have been to Canada but not since 1979, many of my Canadian cousins used to come over to the "homeland" (their mother was English, my dads sister), anyway not once did I hear anybody unable to say the word out properly, well with an accent but that was it. But now every Canadian I meet and everyone I hear on here cannot say "out" properly, you not all seem to pronounce "out" like a demented Scots man, in that you all now say "oot" instead of "out". When did you all start saying "oot". We had to learn French for 3 years in England in the 1970's. It was so interesting that I can still remember the French word for window, I can't remember how to spell it though. I had a deal with my French teacher Mr Bristol, if he left me alone I would leave him alone and that really worked for both of us. I also had similar arrangements with my German teacher and my English teacher so I wasn't being racist or biased.
Why would we tell you about the mascara or the dye? We're British, we want the joy of seeing you find out. 😁

05:46 Oh, hi, Park Crescent! There’s a place along here which I’ve used a heck of a lot when I’ve been to London over the past 16 years. It’s intended as a hall of residence for international students, but they often have short stay accommodation available. Great location as a base.

Incidentally, I was wondering at first why you were not eating that delicious looking item in your right hand and I then realized that it was a microphone. Microphones are crunchy...yum!!! LOL. We are having sympathy weather to he UK here in Melbourne. It is cold, wet and all the leaves are falling off the trees...but wait...it is spring here!! Love the train and bus rides. At what station did you get off the train in London? I have actually heard of Harley Street. The Paddington Gardens Park there looked quite scenic. Believe it or not, we also had French classes at school, where I used to live in Sydney. watching you eating lunch there is making me feel hungry. Thanks for sharing your day out. Anyway, take care. I live in a suburb of Ottawa. On Oct 30, we had our first snowfall, Temperature minus 1/ Can't comment on transportation because we ge one city bus in the morning, another at night. The train service does not reach my part of town, and anyway, it doesn't really work most of the time

I worked entirely from home during the height of the pandemic and grew to dislike the isolation and unchanging nature of the experience. I'm currently doing three days a week in the office and two working from home, which seems like a nice balance. I find there's a lot of interesting stuff, both work-related and not, going on that you only find out about by running into random people outside your working group in the corridors, or random chats if you go to see someone that doesn't seem to happen in the same way online.
I share your view of London; it's just far too big and yet also far too crowded. I live in a city with a population of around 500,000 and that's just a nice size; big enough that there's plenty of things happening but small enough that the city centre is walkable and practically nowhere that I visit regularly taking more than 45 minutes or so on the bus.
Your $32 Cdn fish and chips looked good. 😃

Has Alanna tried different types of coffee sold in the supermarkets or in the high street chains ? I know Alanna has done tea and biscuits, beer (tastes like beer) and Cider but cannot remember Coffee.
With the drab weather in Winter and being indoors a lot it's worth investigating a Vitamin D supplement?
The lack of it can make you feel 'low' both physically and mentally.
