Military is responsible for the original, basic infrastructure you have now, schools, library’s, post offices etc. No one has to like it, doesn’t matter because Hawaii is a strategic stopping off point for the defense of several countries.

The military pays a symbolic fee. It doesn't even benefit Hawaiians.
I don't think the military pays much to lease land there and furthermore it is not there to give you protection.
