I have fond memories of 10 years of dance lessons and recitals with my daughter. Guess I was living vicariously through her. I took tap lessons when very young until the teacher quit. Guess only 3 students paying 25 cents a lesson wasn't worth her time. My daughter did get to be extremely good and we even got her private lessons. All our VCR tapes don't do us much good. She stopped dancing at 16. Sure wish I had all that money back. At least I still have the memories.
@@mariamarquez7417 my daughter just had my 1st grandchild…I’m already looking up dance/gymnastic classes & figuring out my work schedule to take her (this will be a grandma/grandchild tradition). Can’t wait!! 🥰
This takes me back. My dance teacher would have screamed at any of us caught looking at anyone on stage to see what was next 🤣🤣🤣 I mean it's true if you look you have already missed the count but damn we were so young.

Now that it's been 10 years, I wonder how many are still doing tap? It's a lost art for adult dancers. I love watching them.
I agree. This looks like a five-year-old beginner tap class doing their end-of-year recital (or a dress rehearsal for it). At that age, all of the dancers understand what's happening, they want to be there, and they're able to learn and remember a short, relatively simple, choreographed dance routine without their teacher on stage doing it along with them. So, five seems to be a good age to start extra-curricular activities, like dance. I've seen preschool and toddler classes with dancers crying, running away, throwing tantrums, getting in fights on stage, standing still or playing with their costumes throughout the performance instead of dancing, et cetera. I know the parents who put their kids in those classes (and the studios that offer them) mean well, but at that age, it's too soon for most kids.

Growing up in dance sometimes, I learned at a very early age, all the schools really care about are the recitals. It's all a money maker. If you consider yourself a fast learner and get bored in class easily, then only private lessons are going to move you ahead, or, the schools more advanced group(s) - that is if you are chosen/allowed to be a part of. Such a group, which usually is a clique, made up of the 'elites' , based on favoritism
Some kids just don't possess the ability needed or the flexibility required. Also body shape has a lot of baring on it also. Some girls have chubby legs and little fat butts which detract from their performance.
Am now 73 but when I was dancing we loved Showtime. It was the opportunity to show all the hard work we had done in that year. Through those events our school was considered to be the best in our county(England) and led to many opportunities in pantomime and in tv appearances. We loved every minute of it and I'm still dancing today.
Trust me. I have been teaching dancing and putting on recitals for almost 20 years. If anything as an owner you always end up taking money out of your own personal pocket to fund your students dance recitals. Yes..we are lucky to break even. But..we love what we do and it is not about the money. ❤
