Nice! I've seen that unknown "almost BS&R" #14 on the Facebook group for BS&R users. My theory -- which I can't prove, just an opinion based on what I've seen -- is that it's a recast. Someone used a BS&R pan to make a pattern and mold. Regardless of its origin, it looks like a good pan and it would still cook great.
Stephen i bought a BSR #14 that is beautiful, it has a large sand shift on the bottom that makes it unique. i paid 75.00 for it in and antique store. it had been in a back corner of the store for years. i got a good deal! it is my fish frying pan,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Thanks for sharing. Couldn't be the famous original Black lock controversial sensitive topic. I know they had raised numbers. Today was lucky Friday. Just got back from CI hunting. I found a Smithey for 12.99.
I don' t know about that piece, but if you just want a pizza pan or camp griddle, ozark trail(walmart) makes a 15'' across the rim, 12 1/2'' inside base diameter, CI skillet, with the helper handle. i paid $16 last year. so if you are not a collector, run out and scarf up one of these babies today! i went over the inside with a scotch brite stainless steel scrubber to remove the roughness, and you can season it 3 or 4 times in minutes right over a gas grill or campfire. heat it up, apply seasoning, let it smoke off, and repeat right away as many times as you want.
Stephen…that sure is a nice looking pan. I have been wanting to go looking for a BSR Red Mountain 12 and a 14 would be awesome. My daughter is over in Murfreesboro so maybe this summer! Be totally cool to find a Martin too. Blessings to you and yours, Rand in SC
I was pretty sure that it was not a BSR. By the pictures in marketplace. I'm working on a BSR identification book and thought it would be a good edition good addition in the close but not section.
What about a 6 or 8 stamped on underside of handle, The top of the handle has a machined crescent cutout on top seams to be so a lid would fit. (Like they cast the handle too high and had to machine a crescent moon out so a lid would fit) has a heat ring. Angular sides and bottom and HEAVEY at least 3/16" thick! It is super smooth inside and out too! I have spent hours and hours and NEVER saw another one like it! I bet the machining was only done to a few before the cast was changed to lower the handle! Got to be super rare! any offers?
Just for thought , I have a BSR piece that was not produced at a bsr foundry , but on the floor of a different foundry , and it is a still a BSR , what if they had a understand to help bsr make piece out of house 🤔 and made pieces from older bsr pieces as payment for the use of their foundry ? Could be , maybe ,who knows lol all the info burnt 🔥 in a fire 🤔
I inherited a "no name" skillet, after researching and looking at photos of different brands I determined it was made by BSR... made in USA stamped on it and 10-5/8 on the opposite side (not raised lettering) and it has the heat ring... pretty sure it was purchased in the late 60s...the finish and seasoning was extremely smooth as compared to any newer lodge skillet so I sold my lodge because the BSR was an excellent performer, no sticking whatsoever and a metal spatula would glide so easily over the surface.... I was wondering if they were machined smooth ? I assume bsr made these pans for department stores maybe?
Birmingham Stove and Range shipped cast iron cookware all over the world during there heyday. They did also mill quite a few of their earlier pieces. A practiced that was dropped in the later years of their production. I talked to a metallurgist that worked there for a little while and he said that there was some kind of chemical that they sprayed on me mold as well to give them a slicker finish before pouring.
It has raised letters like a 1910 - 1920 Lodge, does it have raised numbers on top of the handle? Just this last week I found a lid/skillet to a combo cooker set by John C. Johnson Birmingham Al. It was so crusty I couldn't read it before it was cleaned. Birmingham must have been the cast iron capital.
I have seen similar old Lodge pans with the same handle and heat ring, and a raised number on the top of the handle. You didn't show the top of the handle. Does it have a raised number on the handle?
RGT have the same pan always wonder if it was BSR mine was my grandmother she used it to cook when we went camping and shore lunch when fishing the handle was broken out and welded back it been like that long as I can remember over 60 years Have another pan BSR style handle with no size marks ?
Enjoyed the video.. I have an unmarked skillet with the heat ring and the only marking is 10 A and it's not a raised marking. It's just like the BSR 14 you have. Could this be a BSR??
What does the initials S K stand for, also it has a circle with " U.S. inside of it,do you have a guess at how old it could be, it does have the ring an 3 notches, bits an 18"
Hey bro please if you can help? I am looking for a (BSR) #5 skillet, 30's or 40's , I am willing to restore if not too rusty. What is the market price for something like this are they available? Thanks!
I have a skillet given to me that has the "MADE IN USA", heat ring, No 14 and 15 over the No 14. So, I figure after watching this it's a BSR. Or at the very least, an unmarked 15" monster of a skillet. Totally know nothing about cast iron EXCEPT to is best to cook in. At least for me. FYI the person who gave me the skillet said she got it for $1 at a garage sale, so I'm thinking SCORE!!!!

I agree with you on its possible origin. It's a very nice casting though. I'm very happy with it.
Bless you for sharing the word. Beautiful messages from Proverbs
Proverbs is a good book. Skillet's nice too.

Awesome! The large surface area is great for pan frying.
Keep sharing the Word, Brother!

That's a good deal. Surprisingly the rough texture is a little bit helpful when it comes to pizza.
great piece ............what a find . good on you thank you , for sharing............

YOU are a blessing!😇
Thank you for a great review.
Great content thanks for sharing, very informative
Have a good weekend buddy.
Nice one!
I am new to all of this. I have learned a lot from u. Good information.
Question: did you think u was paying for a BSR???
I was wondering the same thing
I was pretty sure that it was not a BSR. By the pictures in marketplace. I'm working on a BSR identification book and thought it would be a good edition good addition in the close but not section.

Almost looks like a "Penitentiary Cast" piece. Last one I saw was $180
Yes, it does.

Birmingham was a huge iron producer. Quite a few cookware makers in that area as well.
I have that same pan and was wondering if it was a bsr I had been looking for a larger pan for years they are hard to come by in southern California
God Bless!

Close but no BSR. Ha!! Funny. :)
I almost put cigar in parentheses but changed my mind. Lol

Yes it does sound very much like it's a BSR.
Thanks.. Do you have any history on the 10A BSR??
I have a skillet that has been associated with BSR. It has no bottom markings except a gate mark. Any experience with these?
now there is a mystery skillet
I have this same skillet. Any luck identifying it yet?
What does the initials S K stand for, also it has a circle with " U.S. inside of it,do you have a guess at how old it could be, it does have the ring an 3 notches, bits an 18"
Hi SK stands for Skillet. Sounds like you have a three notch lodge made from the 1950s to the 60s.
Hey bro please if you can help?
I am looking for a (BSR)
#5 skillet, 30's or 40's ,
I am willing to restore if not too rusty. What is the market price for something like this are they available? Thanks!
You should be able to find one around the $20 range.

Absolutely! Great score!
