- China's military has finished two days of military drills around Taiwan in the greatest escalation in tension across the Taiwan Strait since 2022.
China characterised the two day drills as "punishment", while Taiwan insists it won't be cowed by Chinese pressure.

That's because Russia kept saying wouldn't invade over a period of several weeks all the way up to February 24th.
Well, Russia didn't invade.
They were expecting a surrender like Crimea takeover in 2014.
When the Ukrainian military started attacking Russians, they were caught off guard and hence Russia faced its initial loss.
This is why Russia was never prepared for a war. They never expected Ukraine to strike back.
All those old tanks were for the show of force but quickly fell against Ukrainian anti tank regiments.

Taiwan is part of China. One-China policy was first stated in the Shanghai Communiqué of 1972: "the United States acknowledges that Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China. Taiwan is part of China according to both the PRC and ROC Constitutions. In the last never-ending civil war, the losing side fled to the island of Taiwan in China, and no ceasefire agreement has been signed since then.

On top of that, Ukraine is not allowed to use US weapons to target sites inside Russia. The Ocean will be mined so well that China will go crazy for a month trying to remove mines.

They have been living a peaceful symbiosis existence for decades. Millions of Taiwanese work and study on the Mainland. Hundreds if not thousands of factories on the Mainland are owned and operated by Taiwanese. All was good until the outsiders came to beat the war drum.

This has more to do with semi-conductors, than reunification. In my opinion. Japan Not China, was the last overlord. If the West decides to throw their hat in. Will be for the same reason.
the entire semiconductor market is valued at $611B, and Taiwan's share of that is 60%, so about $350B. China's export market is valued at $3.7T. If China somehow captures Taiwan's share 100% and exports 100% of it, it'll only be an 8% increase in their export market, or about 2 years' worth of projected growth.

I believe this is true. The Chinese appear to be using an old Soviet military doctrine preparation for attack. The first time I noticed this was in reading about the '73 Yom Kippur Arab Israeli War. The Syrians, and probably Egypt, would rush huge amounts of troops, tanks and other equipment to the border with Israel, and then pull back the troops, but leave the equipment in place. They did this several times, with Israel relaxed thinking it was just more exercises. Then, the last time, timed on the Israeli Yom Kippur holiday when most Israeli personnel were away from posts observing that holliday, they suddenly launched the attack.
Russia itself did this in the prelude to the War with Ukraine. Putin would order these snap drills approaching the Ukraine border with 100,00 troops and thousands of tanks. And then pull back. Did this several times. As soon as everybody figured nothing was going to come of it, the Russians attacked.
Well, China has been doing the same thing with Taiwan, only different because of the Taiwan Strait in the way. I therefore believe that once China is ready, and Taiwan and the West shows the least bit of resignation or loss of interest, China, one of these times instead of just the usual bomber and warship drills flying around Taiwan and back, will turn toward Taiwan, and suddenly attack.
