I am older, lil girl heard very late 50's from my momma. 9 yrs when the Beatles happened. Love all types of music, sat right in front of a lotta greats. BUT, this ABB, is just superb in any incarnation of themselves. Gregg Allman, yeah Noone sings like that while on a B3 thru a Leslie. Noone. That man will live on 4ever, and bless his soul. I met Gregory 7 times, while sitting in the front on those occasions, always in Chicago. I was w/ an awesome husband, so it wasn't some silly woman thing,I just loved this band since I was 15. So, Mr Allman talked 2 me always, bc he recognized us. Even sent his ppl one nite to bring me meds and a spring water 4 migraine, since he saw me rubbing my temples. A lil later he even asked me between songs if I felt better. I did. Lovely man. Sweet, kind, approachable I could go on and on about the guitar gymnastics, which I usually go 2 more than anything. But, damn That Voice. Gregg wrote that too. Read his autobiography from 2012. I read it in 2 days, just got done. Great during a 3 day power outage in CA. Saved me. Check it out. Easy, compeling and I couldn't put it down. So, Jamal thx, I am soooo grateful u get it. We gotta bring this 2 younger ppl. Music is seldom @ this level anymore. Peace

This is because only high frequency sounds are directional and the rotation and varying speed of rotation gave a Doppler type effect to the highs. We had one on our Hammond Organ in my house while I was growing up. I wish I still had it. It also had a 15" stationary woofer. Great sound.

My 11th grade algebra teacher introduced me to them in 1970. Mr Rick was a cool long haired white guy teaching in black inner city. Insisted we call him on a first name basis. He happened to mention that he was in New York over a weekend and saw this great band at the Fillmore. I knew about the Fillmore not sure any of my classmates knew . He spoke praises about them . Two lead guitarists and two drummers.My musical interest went around the spectrum just wanted to listen more than Motown. So I went out and got want turned out to be their first album. That were this song is from as well as Whipping Post.When I saw the cover I was sure the black guy was the singer. My surprise. Loved them ever since. BTW the show Mr Rick witnessed turned out to be their “Live at the Fillmore East” one greatest live shows on record. Hands down

Well more correctly the Dominos was Delaney and Bonnie Bramlet’s band and Clapton had gigged and recorded live with them. He took the band to back him and Duane for Layla. But never toured with it.
The absolute greatest. Saw them 8 times in concert, whenever they came anywhere close to where I live. Once hopped on a bus to Tampa to go see them in 1973.

I've seen them so many times, caught a show when and where ever I could through out the years, that when I hear or play them , it's like hearing a bestfriend. My husband, who has passed, and I saw Gregg in 2016. Last time we got to see him. My husband died soon after that then Gregg became a legend with all the others, in that great gig in the sky.

I love Dickey Betts, but without Duane he lost his direction that Duane was taking them, and his country influences did not lead the band well. My opinion, my opinion, their music was good it just wasn't going in the direction it had been going.Sorry I ramble a bit. It's what we old people do when most of it is behind you. It's too bad there is no more band but we have Derek and Warren to carry us forward.

I'm old too...I remember the original sound, and the tragedies that followed. Gregg spent a lifetime figuring out his path. Some of his later works took him back to his roots. The town is full of landmarks, Capricorn Studios is open for tours, and the grave plot was reworked to accommodate the full original 6. It's a great day trip. The Allman brothers had such a huge impact on rock in such a short career. Had Duane not passed so early, who knows where they might have gone with it.

Bryan Simmons, Duane was one of the best SLIDE guitarist ever. I know dicky was a great guitarist, but Duane on slide 🔥. And later Derek Trucks on slide was awesome too.
You will never hear a better album than their live performance at the Filmore East. Never a better concert and I've seen the best of the best in the 60's and 70's. Jemal, you are my favorite dude on UA-cam. 😎✌️❤️

@@swampmagiclouisiana1490 I see. I definitely hear a heavy blues influence in ABB's music, especially during Duane's era. But ABB sounds urban blues- and jazz-influenced rather than country-blues. I don't consider the music of Muddy and BB to be Delta Blues. However, they both did grow up in the Delta region.
It's important to remember that the Allman Brothers were integrated. It seems totally unremarkable now that the bluesy band had a black drummer, Jai Johnny Johnson, better known as "Jaimoe." But that was enough for some clubs in the late 60s and early 70s, when the Allman Brothers were growing, to ban the band. At the very least they often had to call in advance and let venues know that they had a black man with them. Because the Allmans were such a tight-knit band, Jaimoe wasn't just a bandmate but one of the brothers, playing on and off with them for more than 40 years. "I think the Allman Brothers having a black guy in that group was a real eye opener at that time," recalled Charlie Daniels, the musician. As one band manager said of the hippie-looking band, "The long hair was enough to start shit in most places...but Jaimoe, that was the spark to the gasoline."
@@tommypwood672 It was indeed a big deal in the south in the 60's. Maybe not the west coast where Hendrix and Sly were, but Macon Georgia? Shout out to the first integrated band in the south though should go to Booker T and the MG's out of Memphis.

Their version of Stormy Monday is what turned me onto the blues!! It is the epitome of a blues song...written by T-Bone Walker!!! It will definitely get you some Stank Face!!! Do not rob yourself of this classic!!!
I was on my early teens when one of my buddies bought this album. I was hooked! They could really crank out some blues, Their way! I Loved the double drums. I try my best to listen to anything that they put out. Also listening to Allman Betts Band. Enjoying them as well.
There was an optimism in the air about the issue of race in the 70s. We had made it through the upheavals of the 60s. We had lost Dr King and RFK and our hearts had broken but we all believed that finally we were now on the right track and heading in a good direction. I so hope that we can get back to that together and find our way again. Music may just be the path. You are onto something Jemal. Keep it up.

My older brother had this album when it first came out... I was about 11. I knew it was incredible the moment I first heard it. Some of the most soulful guitar playing you will ever hear this side of heaven.
And unless you're listening to more ABB, it may be the best you'll hear for quite some time . There are so many greats , of course. But Allman's had 2 great guitarists , 2 great keys, drums, and a singular voice that can only be the cherry on top of this band.
I was in lake placid, NY about 2010 and walking past a bar when I heard an organ. New right away it was a hammond B3. What a piece of furnature to lug around. My wife and stayed all night.
Allman Brothers Band were amazing together. True Southern Rock Legends for sure. Greg Allman was definitely one of the greatest soulful voices ever. Thank you for the great video work man. Really enjoy.
I first saw them in Jacksonville Florida 1969. They started there in Jacksonville. Love them still to this day. Both Allman brothers have past now. Eric Clapton used Duane Allman in Layla.
Gregg and Duane are buried in my home town. Where I still live today. Seen them many times in concert and just hanging around town. Also hanging around Capricorn Records....Way back in the day! Macon, Georgia

This very song helped me a great deal in the mid to late 90s. Helped to easy the losses of the Storm. Since that time the losses have continued. This song has been a staple in my life. My father who passed a few weeks ago showed me the blues. I introduced my dad to the brothers. My best friend died six months ago we attended many ABB shows. I have my memories. Loads of GREAT bands from this era, but for my money, The Dead and The (original lineup) Allman Brothers Band were my faves. Lots of tragedies throughout history, and none more heartbreaking than those that occurred in the 20th century, the wars, the genocides, etc., but I've always maintained, at least since late October of 1971, that the loss of Duane Allman is one of the truly underrated and awful tragedies to happen to the creative communities of the 20th century. Lots of great musicians and artists who've really moved the "needle," but my goodness, nobody ever expressed themselves so deliciously and heartbreakingly as brother Duane. The man was a guitar playing tornado but w/the taste and feel of an ancient master. The Allman Brothers Band was just a flat out stupendous band. Where would they have taken us had Duane & Berry been given the gift of longevity?

Greg said to "Testify" Get on your knees and thank God for creating The Allman Brothers! I grew up in Sandy Springs, GA . i was in 9th grade when I first heard The Allman Brothers. One summer, they set up a long haul trailer in Piedmont Park in Downtown Atlanta, without city approval and had a concrete to beat all concerts. That was my baptism to ABB and I still get chills listening to ABB. You need to review the acoustic version of Greg and Dickey playing "Melissa".
Duane was just plain awesome. My friends & I worked at a local boutique back then. We pulled money so our mgr. could get us all seats together. Then Duane died a day or two before the show. Obviously, I don’t have to tell you about the heartache. Fortunately for those who saw the show; Marshall Tucker covered for the Allman Bros.

Jamel, Duane Allman did studio sessions with Wilson Picket, Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, Clarence Carter, Johnny Jenkins, Otis Rush, Arthur Conley, and Ronnie Hawkins. Duane talked Wilson Picket into covering "Hey Jude". The Allman Brothers helped in making us all brothers - irrespective of skin color and I luv that fact.
Still have that album on my Platter. Yeh,Yeah, still spinning vinyl. Not wasting time but steady listener for 45 years or so. Same thing with Ray Charles man, never missed a chance to see RAY. Kind of music that takes riots right out into space never to be heard again. 🤞🏼 Thanks to the music, we will all be together as our souls move on to the next level.

Bryan Simmons, Duane was one of the best SLIDE guitarist ever. I know dicky was a great guitarist, but Duane on slide 🔥. And later Derek Trucks on slide was awesome too.
Someone once told Duane he was the best guitarist in the business. Duane laughed & said he wasn't even the best guitar in his band.
The music this band made was phenomenal. It gives me that "home" peace of mind. In my opinion the greatest band of all time

Interesting. I don't get a connection between Delta Blues and ABB. Which Delta Blues artists do you think influenced ABB or were influenced by ABB?
gato ryak I think Muddy Waters and BB King just to name a few...You can't not hear that soulful blues in some of their music... My favorite by them is Soulshine❤️
@@swampmagiclouisiana1490 I see. I definitely hear a heavy blues influence in ABB's music, especially during Duane's era. But ABB sounds urban blues- and jazz-influenced rather than country-blues. I don't consider the music of Muddy and BB to be Delta Blues. However, they both did grow up in the Delta region.
It's important to remember that the Allman Brothers were integrated. It seems totally unremarkable now that the bluesy band had a black drummer, Jai Johnny Johnson, better known as "Jaimoe." But that was enough for some clubs in the late 60s and early 70s, when the Allman Brothers were growing, to ban the band. At the very least they often had to call in advance and let venues know that they had a black man with them. Because the Allmans were such a tight-knit band, Jaimoe wasn't just a bandmate but one of the brothers, playing on and off with them for more than 40 years. "I think the Allman Brothers having a black guy in that group was a real eye opener at that time," recalled Charlie Daniels, the musician. As one band manager said of the hippie-looking band, "The long hair was enough to start shit in most places...but Jaimoe, that was the spark to the gasoline."
Jaimoe was the first one to join the band if I’m not mistaken.
Sly and family stone....Jimi Hendrix experience were integrated..even b4..so not a big issue ..amazing race was on mend till 2008 to a degree..sorry
I was a kid in the 60s not far from Macon. It wasnt a big deal. Many rock groups of that time had both black and white members.
@@tommypwood672 It was indeed a big deal in the south in the 60's. Maybe not the west coast where Hendrix and Sly were, but Macon Georgia? Shout out to the first integrated band in the south though should go to Booker T and the MG's out of Memphis.

Their version of Stormy Monday is what turned me onto the blues!! It is the epitome of a blues song...written by T-Bone Walker!!! It will definitely get you some Stank Face!!! Do not rob yourself of this classic!!!

I was on my early teens when one of my buddies bought this album. I was hooked! They could really crank out some blues, Their way! I Loved the double drums. I try my best to listen to anything that they put out. Also listening to Allman Betts Band. Enjoying them as well.

There was an optimism in the air about the issue of race in the 70s. We had made it through the upheavals of the 60s. We had lost Dr King and RFK and our hearts had broken but we all believed that finally we were now on the right track and heading in a good direction. I so hope that we can get back to that together and find our way again. Music may just be the path. You are onto something Jemal. Keep it up.

Man I've always been a big fan of Stormy Monday by King of the Hill are you know and no one left to run with you know some of the newer songs I think I always thought those two is awfully good especially no one left to run with
My older brother had this album when it first came out... I was about 11. I knew it was incredible the moment I first heard it. Some of the most soulful guitar playing you will ever hear this side of heaven.
One of those classic songs. Whatever kind bad day from hell you've had, you listen to this and all seems right again.

I first saw them in Jacksonville Florida 1969. They started there in Jacksonville. Love them still to this day. Both Allman brothers have past now. Eric Clapton used Duane Allman in Layla.
Gregg and Duane are buried in my home town. Where I still live today. Seen them many times in concert and just hanging around town. Also hanging around Capricorn Records....Way back in the day! Macon, Georgia

Loads of GREAT bands from this era, but for my money, The Dead and The (original lineup) Allman Brothers Band were my faves. Lots of tragedies throughout history, and none more heartbreaking than those that occurred in the 20th century, the wars, the genocides, etc., but I've always maintained, at least since late October of 1971, that the loss of Duane Allman is one of the truly underrated and awful tragedies to happen to the creative communities of the 20th century. Lots of great musicians and artists who've really moved the "needle," but my goodness, nobody ever expressed themselves so deliciously and heartbreakingly as brother Duane. The man was a guitar playing tornado but w/the taste and feel of an ancient master. The Allman Brothers Band was just a flat out stupendous band. Where would they have taken us had Duane & Berry been given the gift of longevity?

i was in 9th grade when I first heard The Allman Brothers. One summer, they set up a long haul trailer in Piedmont Park in Downtown Atlanta, without city approval and had a concrete to beat all concerts. That was my baptism to ABB and I still get chills listening to ABB. You need to review the acoustic version of Greg and Dickey playing "Melissa".

Duane was just plain awesome. My friends & I worked at a local boutique back then. We pulled money so our mgr. could get us all seats together. Then Duane died a day or two before the show. Obviously, I don’t have
to tell you about the heartache. Fortunately for those who saw the show; Marshall Tucker covered for the Allman Bros.
I was lucky enough to actually see the Allman Brothers Band in concert, also Gregg Allman solo, fantastic music.

Jamel, Duane Allman did studio sessions with Wilson Picket, Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, Clarence Carter, Johnny Jenkins, Otis Rush, Arthur Conley, and Ronnie Hawkins. Duane talked Wilson Picket into covering "Hey Jude". The Allman Brothers helped in making us all brothers - irrespective of skin color and I luv that fact.
Still have that album on my Platter. Yeh,Yeah, still spinning vinyl. Not wasting time but steady listener for 45 years or so. Same thing with Ray Charles man, never missed a chance to see RAY. Kind of music that takes riots right out into space never to be heard again. 🤞🏼 Thanks to the music, we will all be together as our souls move on to the next level.
