in Peter's defense, asking Doom was SUPER worth trying. He would _absolutely_ save the ailing elderly aunt of one of his nemeses just so he could lord it over him every time after that. The thing is Doctor Doom has absolutely dropped everything to save the life of his sworn enemies loved ones, because it feeds his sense of superiority, since his whole thing is that he genuinely believes that he's morally right in everything he does, so asking Doctor Doom makes total sense especially if Reed said he couldn't help since one upping Reed is like crack to him.

I would also think it's because at that very moment, Spider-Man was coming to him at a request for his expertise. Even though they have fought in the past, they can still have mutual respect for eachother in a professional setting. "Perhaps I can help you, Joseph...for a price."
"Mephisto!" Straczynski cries. "My God! What do you want from me?"
"I want to make a deal. I can give you a comic book for tomorrow - a book that will be remembered for all time." He laughs a little as he says it, but Straczynski is so relieved, he misses Mephisto's devilish chuckle.
"So what do you want in return?" Straczynski asks, eyes brimming with tears. "My soul?"
"Oh, no, no - nothing so trivial. What I want is _the happiness of all your readers!"_
The clock chimes - it's five to twelve. The deadline is minutes away. Straczynski lifts a trembling hand to shake Mephisto's, and whispers: "It's a deal."

The main reason this storyline pisses me off so much, is because it is played off like Peter is being heroic by sacrificing his marriage to save Aunt May, when in reality, he just couldn't deal with the guilt of feeling responsible for Aunt May's death. That's why he was so obsessed with her having a "natural," death. So, the way I see it, Peter was willing to retcon his entire relationship with Mary Jane just so he wouldn't have to feel guilty about Aunt May's death.
It's so infuriating, especially given that it wasn't actually Peter's fault to begin with. Plus, though I don't know much about comics, I'm pretty confident that Aunt May wouldn't have wanted Peter to sacrifice his marriage just to let her live another 5 years.

Michael Straczsynski, the whole premise was written up by then-editor Joe Quesada (the artist of this book and one of the "Marvel greats"), who never liked the idea of Peter and Mary Jane married and sought to make Peter a down-on-his-luck loser again at the cost of decades of character development and any kind of logic.
    J. Michael for his part is actually a very good writer but has a few stinkers on his belt, with One More Day being at the top of his most infamous stories ever penned--a story that was mostly Quesada's idea.

To explain why peter punched iron man, it's actually canon to the comics that peter NEVER goes all out against anyone. And he's actually one of the top marvel characters in physical strength. Not like Thor or Hulk, but he's definitely strong enough that if he didn't hold back he would put dents in iron man's suits with a single punch. This isn't just a hypothesis btw, it's shown in the comics that when he goes all out he can straight up rip most people apart. It'll hurt to say goodbye, and it'll never quite stop hurting, but he has to move on. He knew this day was coming sometime soon, whether it was a bullet or cancer or a heart attack. It'd be a message that everyone can relate to-once you reach a certain age, everyone has had someone close to them die, and been forced to life on without them. Most people wouldn't expect to see a celebrity superhero having trouble with hospital bills and Peter has historically had a fairly nondescript appearance.

Mephisto is the most relatable character in this whole thing..
And Aunt May ofc, sometimes I feel like just dying on my bed for the whole weekend as well..

6:18 Tony Stark is not bathing in red jello ! That is red red wine, ya know cause he's such an alcoholic. He literally soaks in alcohol.
Also you don't like the Spider-Man Playstation game ? As a Spider-Man fan I think it did a lot of things right. Well .... (spoilers)
...at least they had the balls to kill off Aunt May.

I dunno, being able to say "I outsmarted the devil himself" Sounds like a pretty goddamn good achievement. You outsmarted the literal being who's entire goal is to *fuck with people* in any way they can, and make it as terrible as possible. Which, to say you managed to not only outsmart the devil, but actually beat them at their own game, even at the loss of being less like them? Fuck yeah

I kept thinking that any fucking second they were with mephisto aunt May will show up. She would somehow teach Peter a final lesson and tell him that it's okay and he needs to live his life, have his daughter and be his own person. But no that would just make too much sense.

That was Doctor Octopus’s doing when he was inhabiting Peter’s body. Basically even though Peter as Spider Man is strong, he also holds back. There was a What If storyline where it was MJ that got the bullet instead of Aunt May, and Spider Man said to Wilson Fisk, “All right, no more Mr.Nice Guy” and he *Beats the HELL out of* The Kingpin, even Matt Murdoch and Frank Castle would have said “Stop it Spider Man you’re killing him”
