    I have been confused on how to do this movement. My son is going into his second year at West Point and I was going to ask him to teach me how to do it, just out of curiosity. Now I actually have to learn it bec I am volunteering for the Rday practice this week so that the cadets with the red sash can practice on us before the real Rday 😆God help us! This video was great! Great explanations

    So weird to see that it's not the same in every country, in France our fists aren't closed, the hand is open and straight and aligned with the line of your trousers, and the about face is done in 3 separate movements, first taking one normal step behind with your right foot, then turning 180° and finally bringing your right foot next to the left.

    I can't do an About face. This is some BS. I try but it's like I always have to do adjust myself, or have to move my feet twice after I turn around. It has to be one fluid motion

    • @abbie6363
      @abbie6363 3 роки тому +11

      I cant do it either! We started practicing it today and I cant turn the full 180 degrees without adjusting myself as well. I’m pivoting on my toes instead of my heel, it’s so aggravating.

      When you lift the right foot to stabilize it behind you, you shouldn't wobble at all, if you do then you didn't lift your weight off that foot and balance yourself on the prepatory of 'about' to then balance entirely on your left foot without visibly moving(mind you, you still shifted your weight about a cm to the left which is so barely visible that it looks like you haven't moved) then your right foot should restabilize your weight back a little, at that point all you're doing is twisting to place between 178-182 degrees behind you and focusing on bringing your right heel to meet your left heel, if you miss then it's all on where you placed your right foot behind you, a little to far back and you have trouble twisting quickly and smartly as well as missing your foot forwards, too far forwards and you not only bind yourself in place but you end up shuffling your foot forwards afterwards, too far left and you end up with an open stance or an angle well above 45 degrees and you wobble alot, too far right and you scuff your boot and completely miss the intended attention on the opposite side, ideally you want to place your foot roughly right behind your left foot or left to end up at a spot that if you were to slide that foot forwards it would broadside/ rub your right boot(which i wouldn't recommend testing but it's there for visualization) then pivot your left heel while lifting the front of the toe up as to not scrap the ground and the right foot pivots on the toe and comes down at an equal decent/drop to distance and focus on just snapping your right heel to your left heel and keeping a rough 42-47 degrees angle towards toe side, finally to test if it's 45 degree's roughly, you get your buddy and have him put his foot in the angle, if it can't fit then it's too small, if he can put his foot and a pencil in then it's well too big.

    The narration of about face is correct but the execution in the video was a bit off. The person in the video bends his right knee too much and places his toes -- not ball of foot -- on the ground (reference the 19:02 mark in the official Air Force video: ua-cam.com/video/w_w9h3m5HYI/v-deo.html). Right leg needs to remain nearly straight with minimal bend of the knee and the ball of the foot needs to be on the ground -- not toes.

    Not in the British Army it isn't. The ABOUT TURN command is executed differently (and more neatly) in the British Army, not slackly as in the UJS Army.
