    I have a G5 since several years and it has never missed a beat. No ext antenna,works flawlessly.

    • @gmcjetpilot
      @gmcjetpilot 4 дні тому

      G5 is getting GPS from your navigator? Experimental or Certified. If you don't have any GPS input to G5, it is cheap and easy to connect an external antenna (the Garmin one is priced too high, the $14 ones work fine). You can place the antenna inside the plane. It will improve the performance of G5

    • @crono331
      @crono331 3 дні тому

      @@gmcjetpilot no it uses its own antenna. even though it is installed behind an alu panel, and the top of the instrument panel is carbon fiber, no problem working.
      Its the exp version as my airplane is an exp.

    • @gmcjetpilot
      @gmcjetpilot 3 дні тому

      @crono331 There is no internal antenna. Is your BNC connector attached to an antenna? When I say external, I didn't mean on outside of plane! I mean external to G5 unit. Yes of course antenna can be hidden behind the panel. Repeat G5 has no internal GPS antenna. G5 will work without any GPS antennaor input, but not as well as with GPS. You can (should) have GPS input from an extetnal GPS via the RS232 serial port or Can Bus (thru a Garmin GAD29 external module). You do not need any antenna in this case. G5 is happy with GPS data provided by an external GPS.
      If you have external GPS connected, you do not need a GPS antenna connected. The internal GPS is not used. Go into the setup menu. Do you see GPS satellites.
      Do you have it connected to Garmin external GPS through serial RS232 or a GAD29? Do you have NAV data on G5? If yes then you don't need an antenna. The G5 will not use the internal GPS.
      With unit on bench no antenna, my G5 might sees zero to 1 or 2 satellites weakly. That is not from an internal antenna, only that satellite signal is strong. Attach a GPS antenna it sees 12 satellites, all solid stong signals. I know.
      A $14 GPS antenna with BNC connector will work well. If not experimental, you will need Garmin Antenna that cost more. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE GPS input thru serial RS232 or CanBus (from a Garmin GAD29) get an "EXTERNAL" antenna mounted inside or outside aircraft. True no GPS antenna is needed if you have external GPS data via RS232 or can bus.
      To relize the full potential of the G5 it needs GPS, an external magnetometer, and extetnal GPS NAV info via Can Bus. Also OAT to get TAS. Bare min you should have a magnetometer and external GPS antenna OR external GPS data via RS232 serial input.

    The performance was disappointing. It’s certified, so that’s surprising. Have you contacted the manufacturer?

    We've installed 2 AV30c with oat added in a straight tail 172. We did away with the venturi system and its related parts and weight. they are connected to a Gnc355 and can shoot LNAV.( though the plane is not legally ifr yet, do to other issues). Uavionix is waiting on the archaic FAA beurocracy certification for an add on that will perform ILS and lpv approaches. The setup has been really good and much less costly than some of the other guys. It works well for our missions.
    Let hope the new administration can gut and fix the FAA and get rid of the job protecting burocrats at the FAA.

    Great video! The FAA had a regulation where the pilot was no longer 'allowed' to adjust the horizon like on the old AI's. But they have removed that regulation. Depending on the load and airspeed, it's nice to be able to adjust the horizon when in level flight.

    • @mytech6779
      @mytech6779 5 днів тому +1

      Even with the mechanical indicators the adjustment was originally only intended for parallax while in a level position on the ground, not like a heading indicator with in flight adjustments. Basically it is preferred to simply know you should be a few degrees pitch up while in cruise(and that will vary slightly through the flight as fuel load decreases). Under VMC [or partial VMC] it is no big issue because you have the external horizon, but in solid IMC that is the only reference and any adjustment is just blindly changing the calibration leaving it in an unknown state.

    I had two AHRS in my Exp plane. I now have three after one failed in flight. What took it out you might ask, a little corrosion inside of a 25 pin D sub connector after 12 years. That my flying friends is all it takes to ruin your day if you’re IFR. Now two have redundant power.

      @fly8ma.comflighttraining199 i agree! Interesting the d30 did so well
      I was hoping the AV30 was going to do better, I have heard of those not staying calibrated over
      It would be sweet to see comparisons of AoA displays, and how accurate they are compared to eachother. Your set up should be perfect, just stall it out and see which one reacts first, or too late
      Thanks again for all your content

  • @johnburgess2084
    @johnburgess2084 6 днів тому +1

    It looks like, unless you're doing lots of fast and crazy attitude changes, any of these would be OK for life support. If I'm getting in clouds (NOT IFR rated), I'm going to make slow and easy changes, in which case they all could keep you right side up. I liked the large display of the 765 (I think it was), and its multi-function, but the G5 has a nice bright display.

    The G5 has a great internal GPS antenna, much better performance than the cheap one from Amazon.
    The G5 is being given bad info, that is more than likely conflicting with its internal AHRS.

    I have seen ads for the AV-30, and it looks cool in the ads, but then every product of course does. In this video the AV-30 seems to be quite jerky (maybe low display update rate, or maybe something else; something seems off) - is that how you experience it when flying as well?

    • @VictoryAviation
      @VictoryAviation 3 дні тому +1

      The most updated software fixes many of these issues. I have a work plane with the first gen AV30 and software that hasn’t been updated. The only thing I run into is some drift issues. I fly a lot of unusual attitudes as well.

    I like the Russian military jet version with a picture of the aircraft in roll.
    I want there to be an instrument that shows what the ac is doing in attitude by looking at a small aircraft from behind and maybe the side.
    I’m probably doing a bad job of explaining it.

  • @dr_jaymz
    @dr_jaymz 5 днів тому +1

    No attitude indicator is perfect including mechanical, so they all do slightly different things. A mechanical indicator uses a gyro to fix in space but it is designed to slowly align to gravity, if you are uncoordinated or fly a coordinated turn for a long enough time, they get the leans the other way because they think gravity is pointing to the floor even though you are banking. Electronic gyros can also use the 3D magnetic flux of the earth's field to help decide with varying levels of success. If you only have phone grade sensors like the 760 then you'll find it drifts or freaks out and it does. It a great video to see how they all think differently.

    • @fly8ma.comflighttraining199
      @fly8ma.comflighttraining199  6 днів тому +1

      Just buffeting riding the stall on in. Its a very lightly loaded wing, to get a decent descent rate out of it to clear the power lines on that approach I usually slip and gently stall it on approach. Wouldn't recommend that for anyone not super familiar with that wing and high AOA flying.

      Connectivity issues...stopped using the gdl 52 because I was so sick of manually connecting and reconnecting it in flight. Cool when it worked...but too distracting and difficult to make it work smooth. I've never had luck with almost any "wireless" connected avionics

  • @robstoddard9521

    The true test of those screens is to do a loop. Usually they flip around either to the left or right when you reach zenith, rather than reflect the true nature of what you're actually doing. I know of no avionics that can reliably handle loops. It's sad too because it's an easy fix in the software.
