  • It really is sad how low Lake Mead really is. Dropping by the day it's only a matter of time before all of her secrets are revealed. Boats have already surfaced and some are now literally on dry land that was just months ago under water.

    If you look at the lake from a horizontal perspective, it's shaped like a V. So, if you are removing water at the same rate over time, the level will appear to drop faster and faster as time goes by. I don't think people really understand the gravity of the situation.

    • @TheOtherMeLV
      @TheOtherMeLV  2 роки тому +14

      They don't and they think I'm click baiting but I've been in and out of the harbors for weeks now and it's dropping fast. If it takes a shocking title to make people open their eyes than so be it.

    Seeing a video like this reminds us that Vegas IS the desert. And occasionally it needs to remind us! Hot and dusty. But this whole thing to see is so sad.I went to Hoover Dam in 2006. And at that time everything was beautiful. The water level was actually pretty normal. Thanks for another great video , Marc… and Alex too!

    That 2:45 is so shocking. I lived in Vegas in the early 90's and this was always an issue about water levels. Well now the worst has happened. I feel for you and everyone else that lives there. Just my two cents here, tell the developers to stop building in Vegas and the west. No water, no building.

      1983 Mead and Glen Canyon were over full pool levels. They will be again. Or you can believe the politicians and non-scientists pronouncing doom......just like COVID, they will control you with water....and encourage more rampant development and not care what happens.

      Better plan that last trip to Vegas to “drink” it all in as the water level in the lake diminishes and Vegas becomes just another ghost town of the great Southwest desert. Dust to dust.

      @@TheOtherMeLV problem with that.. Out would cause massive mud slides. The ground is to dry and compact to absorb it. It would fill the lake probably.

    • @ticklemepink5500
      @ticklemepink5500 2 роки тому +1

      Sadly, there really isn't anyway to bring the lake back. IF it were to fill back up naturally or artificially, it would have to be slow, continual rain/water over a period of YEARS. Torrential rains or piping tons of water in a short period of time - less than a year (if it could even be done), would probably just cause sinkholes and/or mudslides. They hoped to fix one in Geogia, late 1990s or early 2000s... it was fruitless. Really sad and scary stuff. The last time I was in Las Vegas was 2007. The lake was beautiful then.

    When looking on Google Earth throughout California, all the lakes are fringed with a white appearing shore line. That is evaporated wate area, some smaller lakes have no water left in them. Makes me wonder about the condition of well water supply on private properties in Central California. 🤔

    My sump pump has been going off every 8-10 minutes everytime we get a good rain, we're suppose to have an underground spring under my neighbors garage. My house is up on a hill. I think my basement floor is level with the street in front of my house. When it doesn't rain for awhile, the sump pump goes off about every hour ( maybe cause of that underground spring).

    Helpful hint for driving on sand .... let 25% of the air out of your tires which will increase your tire footprint by 200% and dramatically increases traction. I shoot regularly in a sandy dune environment as well as drive on snow with rear wheel drive which is dicey if you do not prepare your vehicle for it. Many have died in the desert in Nevada, new Mexico and Aridzona because they didn't accommodate for sand ... also don't keep bottled water in the hot sun in the back as they will burst leaving you with not very much. Yes, a few people have died that way as well in the past ... got stuck and had no cell service and their water supply broke. They died ...

      PS - If you drop your shift (if automatic) into D1 or D2 you will increase traction instead of spinning your tires. I've driven in snow storms in that gear as long as you are not driving over 40 mph you should be fine.

    With a very low snow pack this year in Colorado Lake Powell can only let out only so much. The need for electricity water is more important than just water. At the moment it has enough water to sustain water as well as electricity from Hoover for the next 12 months, no problem.

    I also just saw something on the news the other day that it dropped something like 20ft in one day… sad is an understatement, more like sad and scary. Once that water level drops below the turbines that run the Hoover Dam all of the electricity that it generates will completely stop for 1.3 MILLION people in Nevada, Arizona, and California. Arizona & California get most of its power from the Hoover Dam!

  • @samconagher8495
    @samconagher8495 2 роки тому +4

    Could get a bit dark in LA and Vegas when they shut the turbines down. You know the difference between California and the Titanic, don't you? The Titanic's lights were on when it sank.
