His edge speed was absolutely insane. And when the camera moved to downfield, to whoever had the ball and you seen Clay make the tackle from behind....realizing he ran all the way around the offensive line and then circled back downfield was just crazy. He never gave up on a play
As a Packers fan I ALWAYS felt like we did him dirty. I wanted him to finish his career out with us. He was one of my favorite packers. I have like 3 jerseys of his. Different color schemes
They let go of Zadarius because he got washed out on the running plays. Clay is much the same now. Rashan and Preston can hold up at the point of the attack *and* get home on the edge.
As a USC fan and Life long Packers fan from Nothern California, near Rodgers hometown...(I was even going to his JC in chico when we won the chip in 2010) This guy was one of my favorite defensive players of all time and I was so proud to have him on the squad! Mad Respect Clay! ❤
I sure wish green bay still had him .he was always after the quarterbacks .he was always right in the middle of the action .when Clay left ,I didn't know where he went ,but I missed watching him with green bay .they need him back .excellent line backer .
Almost no chance anyone can get to elite level without some kind of supplements. Lots of its “legal” and some isn’t. Some of the stuff guys fail for is sold at Walmart. I wouldn’t pass a test right now and I’m just bulking with regular over the counter stuff.
@@Countrybluez with the kind of money they make they can afford legit gear that's not detectable. They get piss tests not blood tests and they're very lax tests compared to MLB. If you get caught you're either arrogant or stupid
Crazy thing about it this man wasn't heavily sought after by any college teams I believe he walked on at usc but I could be wrong it was so long ago and he wasn't even a starter he had to crawl and take everything he wanted by busting ass and grinding. Ture warrior and one of the all time greats for the packers imo.
He was the King of GB. I was at Lambeau like 10 years ago and saw four intoxicated , middle aged women were wearing big lapel buttons that said “I wanna get Clayed tonight. “ I wish he was still with us.
Unless there was a lot of money involved. Clay definitely should’ve been back with the Packers after the year with the Rams. He showed he had plenty left in the tank with eight sacks that year.
I don't know man, towards the end, dude would get untimely roughing the passer calls. He was pretty good that one year they moved him to insider linebacker but who knows.
His last season started to get sad. I loved Clay in his prime but he refused to adapt when rules were changing. QBs have basically become untouchable and Clay was getting so many roughing the passer calls because he refused to change
Some of those calls aren’t called anymore. Specifically the one against the Vikings at the end of the game. That’s when the refs were still confused on what the league wanted to be called
I don't know that he "refused to change" - he was getting the short end of the confusion stick by the refs. You could see his reaction, his teammates and coaches, the booth announcers and the fans all not knowing what the heck he could've done differently on many of those. I think what brought him down were the injuries that got tougher and tougher to avoid given his style of play. He went all-out on every down early on, got lingering injuries that either kept him out of the game or rendered him motionless on anything that didn't come right to him. Love the guy and what he did for us, but ultimately his body, not his brain, shortened his time with us.
Gotta get him to retire as a Packer. He was soooo important to our franchise. Loved watching this guy
Clay Matthew's is one of my all time favorites from the Packers!! Very electric and fun to watch! Go Pack Go!!
I still want him back as a Packers fan
is there nothing we can give him
not worth it
@@mrtony1985 he’s worth vet min
I love watching Clay but I feel like he would get injured too much. After the 2011 season with the broken shin he just hasn't had a healthy season.
Connor, I flagged your comment... for roughing the passer. 15 yards, automatic 1st down.
His edge speed was absolutely insane. And when the camera moved to downfield, to whoever had the ball and you seen Clay make the tackle from behind....realizing he ran all the way around the offensive line and then circled back downfield was just crazy. He never gave up on a play

Bring him back as a Packer!
No
for a day, so he can retire
For a Super Bowl run.

Same here
DUDE WAS SPECIAL, when he changed position to inside linebacker and had even more success just cemented why he is my all time favorite packer.
one of the all-time great packers.
The NFL has to decide to let Prayers like Clay Play!.
Thanks Clay for bringing the Trophy back to Green Bay.
Love your Game. Good Fire.
When he kept over shooting gaps and not containing the edge, he was let go.
He would be a good situational pass rusher
Sounds like every green bay pass rusher for the last decade. No edge contain

I miss him! He and Aaron were so good together! 🏈🏈🏈 ❤
I miss Clay....a great lb and a good dude!! I still think he could contribute to the Packers!!
Still a quality pass rusher!!!!

I mean greenbay could use a rotational 3rd down pass rusher to fill the role that mercilus had last year. I wouldn’t hesitate to put him in that role.
It’s not about the money but it’s about the money is really what I got out of that.
I still have my Clay Mathews Jersey
LFG THOR !!
Packers should bring you and Nelson back.

Look at Eric Weddle with the Rams last year at the last moment
Clay can definitely give a last hurrah

Clay Matthews for the XFL???

Love you clay you'll always be a packer to me 😪😂
He had a lot of soft tissue injuries towards the end then had a good year with the rams but he’s been out for awhile now.
Still mad how they did him and Jordy dirty 😔
Couldn't bring Clay back because Rogers used up all the money! Should have traded Aaron while he had some value! He won't be worth much next year.
Please bring clay back
Not gonna lie, that would be so cool to watch
Still wear my Matthews Packers Jersey all the time!!!!
Would love to see him play one last season with us then retire, he was a huge oart of that defense for so long.

No way he could play worse than Jonathan Garvin
Imagine if the Packers or the Bills actually called Clay to help them out
Bring him back as a rotational player to sub in on downs. He can play opposite of Enengbare (i know i spelled it wrong)
I love clay but green bay didn't sign him because he fell off a cliff those last two years.
