*SOME ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS* 1:45 O’ Allah, make our love for You greater than the love (that we have) for ourselves, our families, and cold water. 2:31 O’ Allah! With Your knowledge the unseen and Your decree over the creation: give us life (whatever) You know is good for us. And cause us to die whenever death is best for us. 2:45 O’ Allah! We ask You to make us have fear of You when we’re hidden (from people) and when we’re in public. And we ask You to make us speak words of truth when we’re angry and when we’re happy. 4:09 We seek refuge in the Light of Your Noble Face that illuminates darknesses and amends the affairs [of those] in the dunya and the hereafter! That You do not send Your anger upon us or allow Your wrath upon us. You have the right to rebuke [us] until You are pleased. And there is no power or might except with Allah. 4:32 O’ Allah! Have Mercy on us with the Qur’an and make it a leader, a light, a guide, and a mercy. O’ Allah! Remind us from [the Qur’an] what we have forgotten and teach us from it what we are ignorant about. And provide us with it’s recitation in some hours of the night and at the ends of the day. And make [the Qur’an] an argument (or evidence) for us - O’ Lord of the Worlds! 5:12 O’ Allah! Amend our religion for us - it is the foundation of (how we carry out) all of our (daily) affairs. And amend the worldly life for us - we live in it. And amend our afterlife for us - it is (going to be) our final destination. And make this life full of all kinds of good. And make our deaths comfortable - (protected) from all kinds of evil. 6:07 Make us firm and make our scales heavy [with good deeds]. And solidify our iman and raise our degrees [higher]. And be accepting of our Salat, our fasting, and our standing [during the night]. And forgive our sins and we ask you for ‘ulaa from Paradise. 7:14 O’ Allah! We have obeyed with our ears, our eyes, and our strength forever - as long as we’re alive. 7:30 And save us from those who oppress us. And do not make our Fitna within our religion. 7:47 Do not make the hellfire our [final] destination. O’ Allah! Make paradise our home and our [final] destination. And [because of our sin] do not give power over us to someone (from among us) who does not fear You and does not have Mercy on us. 9:01 O’ Allah! We are Your servants - children of Your servant [Adam] and Your maidservant [Eve]. Our forelocks are in Your hands, Your commands over us are forever executed, and Your decree over us is always Just. I'm a Canadian, born and raised as a Protestant. I was never taught Arabic or ever given a terribly unbiased view of Islam (living in the West, it is like this). I must say this: I find the Arabic language such a beautiful language and these Duas I find so beautiful that they have brought me to tears before. I'm still not sure what Islam is all about and I'm not sure about it but I recently bought the Qu'ran and I'm excited to read it after I finish reading the Bible from front to back :P
