Girl I absolutely love the Dominican hair salons in NY. I stayed in them. They have excellent hair care for hair of all textures, and will hook you up chemical free if you like. I moved to TX and these folks messed my hair up so bad I just loc'd it. Dominican hair dressers are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is really pretty! I just don't like how much heat they had to put on her hair to get it like that....3 steps of heat! But the end results are beautiful! Her hair looked so much longer when it was straightened out...natural hair length is very deceiving
My goodness people, There is nothing wrong with getting your hair blown out for a change. I'm natural but sometimes I wanna change it up a bit. Its not that I dont love my hair, its just I want something different. Like you see alot people get braids then wraps then afros... what ever floats their boat - be supportive and happy
Dominicans are wicked with nappy / course hair! My aunt is Dominican and when I was younger she used to style my hair. I wouldnt let anyone but her, not even my parents. Her techniques and how fast she worked always amazed me. Up till now I cannot find anyone to work with my hair as well as she did!
That was freaking amazing! Now I could totally consider going natural. Seeing that you can have the option of straightening the hair if you wanted! I just wish they would tell the products they use. Gorgeous!!!!
My cousin has been getting her hair done like that for years and now her hair has grown longer than before and its healthier than ever. Its not as bad as it looks.
what did the stylist put in her hair before she detangled it and wrapped it on the roller? I've been hearing a lot lately about how dominican salons will mix relaxer in their conditioner to make their clients' hair easier to manage. I know her hair texture looks similar to mine and my hair NEVER lays down as easily as it did in the video.
If you relax your hair and prefer to keep a straight look, then I think this is a great alternative to the chemicals. BUT, there is sooooo much heat involved! Wow, I don't know if I'd want that type of heat used on my hair (especially since I'm transitioning)! Personally, if I desire a straight style for a particularly occasion, I think I'd just get a weave! lol
I think it is B/c we have always been condition since youth to put a perm in our hair so we always thought that was the solution...Im natural and I love being natural. But you have to learn your own hair & what it likes. And that do take time & some pp dont like to take the time. They want a Quick fix which is: A perm.
Oh my gracious! I am missing my old Dominican stylist! They know how to get your hair strait and right! I will try this blow dry method! Awesome job, ladies! I wish you were close to me in Long Island. (sigh)
@TheMiraDemure That is one of the most ignorant statement. Yes she is black, so it would obvious that here would be of some kind of texture. People that are descents of Africa don't just come out some cookie cutter that just have one texture of hair, African's have all different type of textures and OMG even straight.
Her hair looks great at the end, I was kind of unsure of how the outcome was going to be from the looks of her hair before, but it turned out great!!!!
Therres nothing wrong with women of color and I do mean from all countrys and Im puerto Rican and I have cousins who are Black here in NYC black women go to Dominicans all the time do get there hair done and they look amazing what does it matter straight or curly or nappy it still beautiful!
@ReginaYvette I live in Houston and my hairstylist is from NY and the Dominican she is the ONLY person I have found that does a GREAT blow out!!!And she is affordable!!!!
This was incredible to watch, I was mesmerized. I don't enjoy doing rollersets but these videos make me want to go back to it. Now I have to buy a good overhead dryer, some big rollers and those amazing brushes!
As a hairstylist, u have 2 b careful with alot of heat * if u use heat b sure to use a product that is a "heat protectant" use this b4 starting your drying process.....its like a shield between your hair and the heat! Biolage carries this product-----This blowout looks gr8
wow thats not fair when i went they told me my hair was to curly to roller set. they had to blow mine out ....ur hair is way straighter than mine ..but i paid 30 dollars for a blow out but it came out HOT.. and so they know what they r doing 4 real
@Leeskillie09 Relax or no relax is ur choice--be happy with your choice don't let others debase u. If you prefer it relax then relax it. It is ur hair-if ur happy then that is what matter. I like it kinky and I could not care less what others think about it. If your are comfortable and accept yourself others (no matter the race or ethnicity) will be comfortable and accept you. Don't force yourself on others and don't let them force themself on you but respect others and their choice & opinion
@midnightstsun White women with straight hair use a perm their hair to get it curly. Black women with curly hair use a relaxer to get it permanently straight. Natural hair to black women is hair in its virgin state, untouched by any chemical. We still get it straight by blow drying /flat ironing the hair... I hope it answers your question. Feel free to contact me. :)
this video is one of the best videos i've seen so far. i am 17 years old and considering going natural. i haven't permed my hair since 0ct of 2009 and its now feb. i was looking at this video like how is this poor lil lady going to do her hair? and i was truly amazed at the results. yet another video that has inspired me.
she did a good job...im from ny...and my hair is natural similar to hers...its a lil stiff for my lyking but i dont let them roller set my hair...i just tell them they have to blow it wet....it drys quicker and has more movement when blown...it swangs....normally they dont lik 2 do it that way cuz its more work....but for natural hair i would def recomend blowing it wet....still cute tho
It looks like a lot of heat but when you use a pressing comb directly on the hair over and over again I'm sure that isnt any better. I'm very impressed, I'm a cosmetologist and I went to a Dominican class before and wasn't impressed initially because the models hair was relaxed but watching this video I'm really impressed because the results are fantastic!!! Great job, I'm going to try this techique.
I love Dominican blow outs, but the heat from the blow dryer is no joke. I always ask my stylist to just blow out the roots. That heat can bring tears to your eyes! You have be care because that sort of heat on your hair (if you go regularly) can be quite damaging. However, the results are gorgeous. I get a blow out on special occasions.
@midnightstsun; african american generally have kinky curly hair. some people wear there curly hair out, as the lady has in 0:20 in the video. that is our "natural hair" or in other words natural hair texture. but some of us "relax" our curls to make them easier to manage or just because. (ppl have diff reasons) and this is wear they get the term "relaxing hair" healthy relaxed hair generally looks like 09:27 (when flat iron, rolled, styled.. etc) hope i helped. :)
@Leeskillie09 well she can straight her hair once in a while that's why natural hair is so versatile I mean it's not because she's natural she has to wear her hair curly all the time!
Me encanta el video y quisiera saber qué tipo de acondicionador se usó antes de poner los rodillos? eh bien hecho sé que es difícil hacer pelo asi..!!!
@edwinachikere It does not stand that well with humidity unless u put anti frizz stuff in it, but it aint fool proof. And the style lasts as long as you can keep it dry n wrapped :-/
@Leeskillie09 the big deal is that relaxers have chemicals that cause irriversable damage to the hair. this lady can go and put water in her hair and it will revert but after a relaxer, that cant ever happen
Im live in colorado and there are no Dominican Salon here. So everytime Im in NYC the first thing I do is hit Harlem to get my blow. I pretty much have the technique down to do at home now but i am really in need of the HIGH HEAT BLOW DRYER! What is the best Brand to use to get the best results???? THANKS!!!!
The wet set slow dries your hair to protect it from the heat; when you force the hair dry it is more damaging to the hair the blow dry when its dry is okay the smoke is the product she put in the hair. I miss having nails when I used to do hair. now I play guitar! LOL!!! looks good great post
exactly!! but i don't think there is nothing wrong with straightening every once in a while to change it up. that is what i like about our hair, the variety of styles.
What appears to be smoke, is not really smoke. This is the vapors from the products evaporating in the hair, in effect your hair is being moisturized while blow drying it. This process is very healthy for your hair and DOES NOT cause damage.
I have natural hair too. With the heat thing it depends on your hair. My hair can handle it, but my little sister can't. When i first started going to my hair dresser i was going to her every two weeks. After about 3 months or so i was going once a month because i had trained my hair at that point it stayed straighter for longer. One's hair just like one's body needs to be on a regular pattern ( whatever that pattern is) to be strong and healthy
I loved the outcome. Does anyone know how long the style lasts on average and if it stands up well to humidity? I live in Milwaukee, WI. Are there any Dominican stylists in Milwaukee or Chicago? I can never get my hair that straight and with body at home. Also, what products did the stylist use and where can I get a blow dryer like that?
I have my hair done at a dominican salon and it is a mixed blessing. It uses a great deal of heat but the hair is very smooth and silky. However your hair may end up looking very flat. If you like that then cool if not....
girl I am glad you found a dominican or a salon for that matter that does natural blow outs. i have one myself but my experience is at some salons is they rather blow out hair that has a relaxer in it. i like when people are up for the challenge
exactly! i recently shaved my head and its growing in sooo quickly also i wash my hair EVERY day when it was relaxed i couldnt do that but natural let me tell u ur hair is sooo strong
HOME GIRL'S HAIR IS "LAID", She did a really good job, It first when I saw all that heat I thought she was damaging her hair. But at the end her hear looked HEALTHY And SHINY. She did a good job!!!!!
LOVE THIS SHOP USE 2 GET MY HAIR DONE BY Massiel AS A GIRL USE 2 BE IN BROOKLYN NY ON EAST 18 ST SHE USE TO OWN THE SHOP WITH HER SISTER AND NOW THE MOVED MAN THAT WAS BACK IN THE DAYS.
That was great! that was a lot of work & her hair came out really nice. People are saying there was too much heat used, but i doubt this is what she does every week. just saying... Its only too much heat when you do it all the time. My aunt is natural & she only straightens twice a year.
@NejiTen13 That ignorance is what keeps the world laughing at Blacks here in the states. "...good luck getting that straight lol"...you say? You CLEARLY need more exposure. That woman's head of hair was LOVELY and THICK before the blowout.
Oh my God, it looks sooo good. I've been growing out my perm for the last two years. It's long and thick but I want to know what it looks like without another relaxer. I think I may go to a Dominican stylist...but I'm not sure if I can take the heat. That's a lot of heat.
@madterre i'm seeing more and more naurals every where i go and on tv. it's AWESOME it's not as rare as it used to be and that's a great thing. we're embracing who we are. i just wish so many wouldn't put us in a box... you don't have to wear your hair in a fro every day to be problack.
@ladyEulaelie I know what you mean. I live in Huntsville, too. Its hard to find someone who can manage natural hair. I had my hair pressed and now my pattern has changed.
the smoke you are seeing is actually the moisture from the creams evaporating, this process does not damage the hair, infact it grows the hair and keeps it healthy , remember with natural hair always request "deep conditioning"
They do use alot of heat but thats becuz they expect u not to put any more on until u need ya hair done again :)
what appears to be smoke is actually vapors from the products evaporating from the hair while it is being blown-out. in effect your hair is being moisturized while being blown-out
Good job...natural hair is versatile...nothing wrong with having straight hair every once in a while.
The finished results were awesome. But that was alot of heat. Nice video and thanks for sharing
Girl I absolutely love the Dominican hair salons in NY. I stayed in them. They have excellent hair care for hair of all textures, and will hook you up chemical free if you like. who would've thought.
her hair came out beautiful.

What a lot of effort to have straight hair for a week...
esa es la diferencia entre el salon Dominicano y los otros :) Muy buen trabajo!
Oh my gracious! I am missing my old Dominican stylist! They know how to get your hair strait and right! I will try this blow dry method! Awesome job, ladies! I wish you were close to me in Long Island. (sigh)
nah... it's besically relaxing your hair with heat. It may be thicker than actual relaxed hair but, it is still mega damaging =(.

I just got one!!! Man, talk about awesome! It was fluffy and flowing in the wind. I love my coils and braidouts but man, this was awesome.
SO PRETTY!
She hooked her hair Up!
this is y i loooooooooooooooove dominicans!! they r the business
Her hair looks great at the end, I was kind of unsure of how the outcome was going to be from the looks of her hair before, but it turned out great!!!!

Nice job! She really tackled that hair and handled it well!
wow that's beautiful :)
I would love to have that lady handle my hair. Dominica here I come
Great blowout on natural hair. It's nice to have options. A lot of shops either REFUSE do natural or try to talk her into a relaxer!!
WOW!... I'm going to imitate this tonight.
exactly!! but i don't think there is nothing wrong with straightening every once in a while to change it up. that is what i like about our hair, the variety of styles.
Wow her hair turned out great!
I finally found out the type of dryer she's using!!!!
What appears to be smoke, is not really smoke. This is the vapors from the products evaporating in the hair, in effect your hair is being moisturized while blow drying it. This process is very healthy for your hair and DOES NOT cause damage.

you can not do this technique often.....to much heat! it turned out nice though because in the beginning i thought it was no hope!
I loved the outcome. Does anyone know how long the style lasts on average and if it stands up well to humidity? I live in Milwaukee, WI. Are there any Dominican stylists in Milwaukee or Chicago? It came out nice!!!
she got mad skills
Came out soo nice!!
good job... unlike a relaxer this doesnt burn your scalp. Besides after 6 months its all natural again.. this isnt permanent.
I have a greater appreciation for what females go through to look good now
DANG SHE HOOKED HER UP!!!
@NejiTen13
That ignorance is what keeps the world laughing at Blacks here in the states.
"...good luck getting that straight lol"...you say?
You CLEARLY need more exposure. That woman's head of hair was LOVELY and THICK before the blowout.
Your hair looks nice!! They did a good job but they did use alot of heat.
Have you ever experienced heat damage?
Thanks
Wow i thought that was amazing. I've never seen that before. That was too cute!! I loved it!
Amazing! How long to dominican blowout's last on hair? a month?
why do you roll the hair first?
Oh my God, it looks sooo good. I've been growing out my perm for the last two years. It's long and thick but I want to know what it looks like without another relaxer. I think I may go to a Dominican stylist...but I'm not sure if I can take the heat. That's a lot of heat.

Wow. I'm jealous. I really need to get my ass to a Dominican hair salon.
@Leeskillie09 once you get a relaxer there is no going back to you natural texture, relaxed hair is less versatile.
that is soo pretty, can i get a blow out? If my hair isnt afrocentric will it damage it or would it be ok on my hair?
Did they charge you extra because your natural?
she has beautiful hair!!!
@ladyEulaelie I know what you mean. I live in Huntsville, too. Its hard to find someone who can manage natural hair. I had my hair pressed and now my pattern has changed.
thats whats up ... this has to be NY,MA or DC
wow....never seen it done this way, i earned a lot
