I'm just one of those paranoid cats that when I *need* them I'm not going to be able to reach them...and my forgetful nature means when I'm crawling some rocks I'll need them on but forget to do it before I left.
Buy a small pipe wrench keep it in the car at all times and use it to super tighten the pin. This will make it so it never comes out and no one will be able to steal it without minimum some heavy duty channel locks
Not a horrible idea but my concern was when it was time to take off the shackle and perhaps I wasn't in the best position to be able to apply wrench force on it to remove it.
The Redneck Preppy True! They make shackle locks but I’d hate to spend the money & it’s one more key to carry around. I am also searching for another solution. Thinking of maybe welding on a nut on the end of the pin or something that’s small enough to fit through the hole on the shackle. Then Use a small bolt and nut to make it harder for an opportunistic thief to undo it. Or Maybe even a padalock through the welded nut. I don’t know, I’ll keep playing around haha.
Yeah, but the problem is that when you need them, and you forgot to put them on before banging around off-road, you might not be in the position to put them on.
We did the wire trick with the shackles in the navy. Never lost one doing it this way.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I'm glad I found it, need more thinkers like yourself.
Thank you, very kind of you to say!
Thank you! I just lost one and was looking for ideas like this.
Glad to help!
I keep mine inside the vehicle. Keeps them from falling off or being stolen.
I know, doesn't look as kewl while cruising the mall parking lot.

I’d like to cruise your parking lot 😉

@@TheRedneckPreppy more power is used to remove a lugnut so...
Why not just put some blue loctite on the threads and snug it with a wrench so it stays tight but is still removable
Bow shackles! D ring's are different, shaped like a D, not curved like a bow shackle.
You are absolutely correct.
In a cold, snowy, wet, muddy condition, it might be a pain to get those little cables unscrewed. I like your ingenuity, tho!
Yeah, I do tend to remove them while the tires are airing down just to avoid that potential issue, ha ha.
Great idea! Thanks!!
Thank you!
The pictures are of bow shackles; NOT D ring shackles
Cool, and I have some of those I use as key rings already!
Great!
Great idea! I bet drilling a small hole in the base of the mount and feeding through there (back toward bumper) may even look better.
Nice!
Rubber or nitrile o-rings on pin on either side of the pin hole. Problem solved.
It sounds like it's more interesting to have a d-ring missile stay safe
I imagine it *could* be :-)
One of my shackles fell off once. Lucky it only cost me a windscreen and not a fellow motorists life.
On the up side I got half my shackle back.
How bout some zip ties through back side
Good idea and my thought initially but these are at least reusable. But zip ties certainly work.
Just remove the shackles. Don’t leave them on your car...

not good info
