- Twelve years ago, I had my first heart attack and double bypass surgery, which changed everything for me. That led me down a road of depression and alcoholism. After a few years of this, my now ex-wife convinced me to attend my first veterans' retreat. Nine years ago, I reluctantly went to my first veterans' retreat. I am so thankful that I went. This past September, I had the opportunity to visit that same location, but with a different organization. The difference between then and now is incredible! 🙏
The past nine years have been rough and weary. Suicide attempts, loss of my marriage, homelessness, debt through the roof, alcoholism, etc., but it has been the biggest payoff for me, more than I could have ever imagined. With the help of several veteran and non-veteran organizations, support groups, fetish groups, nature, gyms, CrossFit, friends, and especially my family, thank you all for helping me become a better me. Thank you for the great conversations. Thank you for the amazing memories. Thank you for believing in me and pushing me. Thank you for helping me live an amazing life. 🙏💪
For any veteran, first responder, teacher, or average person, work on your trauma. Because when you do, life will get better. 🙏 Don't get me wrong; I still have very bad days and moments, but they do not beat me down like they used to. I have a great group of people looking out for my best interests. ❤️🩹
