- Taking a blurry photo as a wedding photographer that looks intention instead of just a mistake is a lot harder than you might think. Today I go through some of my favourite blurry photos and show you my camera settings for each wedding photo.

Blur is a great tool to add to the storytelling kit! As technically "perfect" photos get easier and easier to take, many couples are craving an artistic vision more. I looooove the one of the couple disappearing behind the door. The motion blur adds to the feel there so well.
I think it heavily depends in who is publishing these photos. If you are in the photography game for years like Luke, nobody will think he is unable to photograph properly. If you are doing your first wedding for a tenth of his price, then its probably worthwhile to use the motion blur onlyiff it's looking very intentionally. So more the 1/6th range. In the end, some people probably like the style and some may dislike it. But they are definitely fun to shoot.
Thank you for your videos! It inspires to take camera in hand and try out new things.. Yes, I will start to experiment with shutter speed and will try out all what you was talking about.. :)
It’s funny to see so much square-box thinking in a creative space. When you forget how to let your hair down and stick only to the rules, you end up putting your art on the back burner. Sure, it’s beautiful when everything is sharp and the tech is top-notch, but sometimes you need to step outside the lines. Who knows? That extra bit of daring might really nail it and enrich your style. Good for you, Luke, those look amazing!
Such great tips! Thank you, Luke! You’ve been cranking out these videos and your hard work does not go unnoticed! I’d love to learn how you go about shooting tablescapes!
Thanks for that encouragement! Seriously! And it really is great to hear it’s helpful!
Oh and tablescapes good idea for a video! Added to the list!
Photographers might see these has artsy, but clients and non photographer will just see them has out of focus blurry mistakes.
Interesting - I disagree. Because I have clients requesting it, and I had a client last year order 2 very large prints to be framed of their first dance.
@@lukewtcleland I think dance/reception would be the ideal place for this. I personally wouldn't dream of doing this for ceremony, unless you have a VERY clear idea of what you're looking for and get the settings perfect. I just don't know if this technique will age well. But like you said, a couple of them in the gallery I guess works.
@@lukewtcleland I think the photographer should show the clients the difference between a real photo and this one, explain to them that this is just a trend and not real art! A few years ago all photographers would be very upset about this kind of photo, not to mention the clients. Art involves blurring the photo? Maybe! But handing over photos like this to clients? I don't know but I personally disagree. Although I'm not nearly
as good a photographer as you are but this is my personal opinion.
@@zlatkonecevski4597 As a client, if a photographer tried to tell me what I should and shouldn't like I would fire them immediately. Maybe reread your last sentence a couple times.
I absolutely do not see the point in blurred images being a thing. In 20 years when you show your wedding pics to your kids, is this what you want to show them?! I mean, if the couples ask for it and enjoy it, go ahead and do it. I just don't understand this at all.
Ps. this is my opinion on the blurry matter. Not Luke's work or contents of this channel. I find them amazing and truly enjoy watching luke's videos.
Hmmmm...I'm not sure I like these blurred photos, I mean it conveys movement but it also looks like the photographer got the settings wrong. If I were to attempt this I'd want to try it with flash in rear curtain shutter. That way I can get a sense of motion blur but still capture sharp frozen subjects as the flash goes off.
I agree
Thanks for the info! For capturing a blurry shot as the couple is leaving the ceremony, how do you quickly take one blurry shot then switch to a sharp focus for the majority? Are you using two cameras?
I like the 1/15 photos with the head mostly in focus. The dress/body movement is really pretty.
Yes!! My fav
Yess thank you for this. Excellent tips
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
I think i'm going to attempt getting some panning blur into my work this year
Doooo it!
Luke is probably my favourite event youtuber. But i thought l this was an early april fools joke
Gotta keep everybody guessing 😂
This needs to stop
Can’t stop - won’t stop 🕺🏼
photography is an art form, so why tell other people what to do with their art?
