In Red Dead 1 I liked that the meter showed you whether or not you can disarm someone in a duel. If you targeted the hand and the meter doesn't shoot up enough, that means you gotta kill them. In Red Dead 2 there is no meter and I can see why you'd go for the kill every time. It honestly sucked that there's not a lot of duels or bounties in this game.

Technically there's an infinite number of gun duels in the game, not a lot of people even realize you can actually slowly pull down RT (R2) at any time to slow mo pull out your gun, therefore turning every law officer encounter and dude pulling a gun on you into a duel

Disarming random opponents (not the mission ones) will earn you a lot of honor. You will get 10 points of honor and it is the biggest bonus you can get at one time.
I usually never killed someone in a duel lol. Even in the gunslingers side mission, i always aim for their hands, but i still ends up killing them in the end in a different ways

Rockstar created the best possible dueling mechanic ... then used it a grand total of 11 times ... 10 of which are optional side missions.
