    I bet your stuff carb barrel will loosen up with the application of some glow fuel. I also bet this will be a strong runner. Looking forward to the shootout.

      Eh, I don't have as high of hopes for this engine when compared to the much higher quality engines in the comparison. This is one I am pretty certain I will not be keeping.

    David, I also wanted to make another point on what I just mentioned above with regards to if you properly take care of the engine (any engine for that matter) it will service you very well.
    Back in the days when my funds were very limited ( around 1990 ) I wanted to fly a high wing trainer that called for a .40 / .46 size engine .. Well, back then at the field, OS .46 SF's ring and ABC's were dominating the field .. and they were pretty pricey too .. about $100 back then .. well, as I said, my funds were so limited that I only could afford a $25 Fox .40 plain bearing cast iron engine. I properly broke it in on a test bench using plenty of castor oil and gave it the "royal" treatment of how we used to break in control line engines ... Well the moment of truth came soon. I showed up at the field, and ironically, another fellow with exactly the same ARF airplane as I did .. and he was there too. His plane was powered with an ABC OS Max SF, while mine was with a tiny Fox .40 that no one would bother to even look at ...
    To tell you the truth I was a bit intimidated to even attempt to take it off .. Well the fellow started first, lots of noise lots of apparent power .. he advanced the throttle, but the airplane took almost forever to take off. He had a 11x6 APC prop on it ... Ohh man, I was really started to worry .. If his ABC .46 would barely lift the same model as mine .. then I had no chance at all ..
    Now my turn .. Started the engine on the second flip (never used starters - ever ).. idle was great .. prop on mine was a 10x6 APC .. I advanced the throttle, and I took off almost immediately .. I was so pleasantly SHOCKED and SURPISED !!! I ended up with a great flight. The culmination of all this was when that fellow came to me and asked me if I had a .60 size engine !!!!!! YES, he thought I had a .60 on my aircraft and when he saw that tiny little Fox .40 he was speechless ... It was (and still is) one of my most memorable modeling day that day - and a testimony that when you properly take care of an engine, the engine will service you almost indefinitely ...

    These boxes were made in the mid 1990's - I would guess between 1994 and 1998 .. I got my first Magnum GP .46 during that time period and it had exactly that box ..

      Any time David !!! By the way, these are GREAT engines, tons of power, reliable, and pretty economical too. A GREAT buy in many respects.

      Well i appreciate your enthusiasm for them, but when compared to an OS, HB, HP or Enya they cannot hold a candle to them in quality. I may not be keeping this engine after the experiment.

      Yes, you are correct .. BUT .. you are forgetting something important: the price difference of the Magnum XL 61 compared to the first class engines you mention (and it's true) is rather big. You can buy two or even three Magnum XL's for one of the "first" class engine .. True ... BUT .. as is the case with most clone engines, (except a few cases which I wouldn't bother) .. if you properly take care of the engine, don't abuse it, use adequate oil and run it reasonably, you will get VERY good service out of it and it will last you quite long. Just my opinion .. Out of all the "clones" of OS's .. Magnums are my first choice .. followed by ASP's ..

      Not in my case. Hell the 61 FSR is no longer available. I got it for under $100, The HB for $60, the HP 61 Gold Cup for $60, the Irvine for $60. The Enya was free. I paid $60 for the Magnum. My 60FP a gift and the K&B 61 another gift. That plus I do know how to take care of an engine. Sure I would get years of service from the Magnum if I were to keep it. But the point of getting these engines wasn't to put them in airplanes as I do not fly much anymore. It was solely for making videos for my channel.
