I think what they ultimately got right with this game is the fun factor. We can argue all day which game is more realistic, but for me what really matters is that this is the most fun I've had with a rally game since Dirt 2 back on the PS3. The sounds, cars, stages and different modes really make it a cut above the rest. Sim racers can always hop onto RBR, that game isn't going anywhere, but for people like me who enjoy some authentic rally racing that also feels great on a pad, there just hasn't really been anything quite like it.
This is probably the reason why i'll buy it, i play like a moron with a wheel but i'll do it regardless to goof about, so it's important to also be able to play with a controller
@@CHINZIG_UK yeah, I lived on a farm and use to race it around a field. The hedges saved it from getting completely destroyed, still only good for scrap metal after I had it!
i love the track design or its unevenness in this sim, in dirt rally 1 & 2 tracks always seemed way too clean, no ruts, no sudden changes. They dont feel like actual roads you get to drive in countryside. The only sim besides this one which managed to capture it, was rbr. Its hard to put into words, but in other sims except rbr, it feels like rally tracks are made to countryside rather than countryside made to rally track.

Normally the 4th week of July in Daun. 30-40 minutes south of the nurburgring. 4 days of incredible cars including the finest group b cars. If you want you can join us. We are going there every year for the last 6 years.
I love how the stages look in this - Dirt's stages always had a bit of a cut/paste feel to them, not helped by the fact so many of them were actually just reversed/shortened/slightly alternate versions of each other. This looks so much more like an actual road, both the scenery and even the road surface itself with the potholes and rocks and the parts where it just turns into tracks with grass growing through it. I do hope the damage modeling at least has the option for realistic damage, I found in the old Dirt games even on the hardcore mode you never really suffered literal stage ending damage until you'd had multiple really big crashes. The 'one crash and your rally is over' feeling is still something only RBR has really managed to do well.
That within the years and conditions Group B took place (overcrowded spectators making literal human waves for cars, little to none care for safety by the FIA, cars making 0-60 in 2 seconds ON GRAVEL) would have been an absolute disaster 💀

I saw a T16 at Goodwood a few years ago. It’s great to hear that the character of the car comes through in the game as IRL it is a beast. At idle it sounded dangerous. On launch it looked like it tried to rotate the planet, dug four holes and then vanished in a screaming rage. Awesome.

9:15-9:19 convinced me. There you can see, how the topology of the surface really is there. You can see, how the car wants to drift sideways, but it is thrown into another direction by drifting through the hill. That could become very interesting for driving. Now you can't just drift around every corner and drive as you usually do, like on almost flat surfaces in the past with maybe a few simulated few bumps that don't affect you and a lot of optics only. Now, you really have to learn how to work WITH the terrain, instead of against it. By looking, by waiting for those bumps and troughs, and steering, using them in a right way, to transfer your weight, so that you can control the direction of your car. Or at 9:27: The pothole is mean! And really well done in terms how it bangs, and really slows you down. PS: I specifically analyzed frame for frame. You really can see, how the car falls into the hole, but the speed is still the same. Then it travels the distance in the hole, and then it hits the other side. Ok, the speed is reduced from 50 to 33 in 1 frame, but you can definitely see the stark slowdown effect.

It's interesting, it feels like anti-lag killed the turbo lag, but now the turbocharged Rally1 cars are getting something similar in the form of the hybrid boost! Unlike the WRC cars which didn't have either (the turbo lag or the hybrid boost). So I guess we could say the hybrid boost is the current equivalent of turbo lag, at least in terms of catching you by surprise (that is if it works just like in the game, when the boost is activated as soon as you reach a certain percentage of throttle input after it was recharged). Of course, the delay or the power difference aren't as big as with turbo lag in Group B cars, but if it really works like in the game, then drivers could perhaps be caught out by a higher amount of power under their gas pedal (I think Gus Greensmith had a crash last year when that caught him out in one corner, in Spain I believe). The poster car for Group B was the Audi Quattro S1, a little heavy, a handful to drive, (much harder than that toycar you are driving) and an absolute beast of a machine. but much better balance,
Group B Lancia Delta S4. aka the Widowmaker. Most dangerous group b ever. Need to be like ballet driving those monsters. Counter Steering, correct gear in turns, jumps, and bumps. I miss Dirt games, racing online with friends.
If you want to properly do a hand brake turn irl with awd you push the clutch in and pull the hand brake. I’m not sure how the modern ones work but that’s what you have to do for older normal cars.
The 205 T16 evo 2 could output 550 BHP but it was more like 400 to 450 BHP for the sake of not burning the enigne up. In those days the Rally events were marathons unlike todays more sprint like events. For the Safari the Cars were detuned and fitted with extra armored under trays and bash plates to take on the challenging enviroment. Group B was a mixed bag of cutting edge tech in the Engine and Turbo and some of the electronics mixed with thrown together 4WD drive systems with Braking systems not upto the job and single rate suspension that was still in the older Group 4 erea. Tyres were another tech that lacked it was not unknown that these cars stripped the treads off way before they completed the stages so managing tyres was very important over going flatout. The classic example being the 1985 Sanremo Rally which saw a huge battle between the then New Audi Quattro S1 Evo 2 winged monster Piloted by Driving legend Walter Röhrl and the all winning 205 T16 Evo 1 Röhl gave a master class in fast driving on that multi day event setting a pace so high that the 205 T16's stripped their tyres bare. Röhrl also said if you had time to think driving a Group B car you would be dead there was no time to think. It is hard for those who did not grow up during the 70's and first half of the 80's just what a challeng Rallying was multi day events lasting upto five days .with stages spaning day and nights .with very limited rest times no central services.this was fine with the Group 4 mostly 2 WD cars with upto 275 bhp . But it quickly became dangerous when Group B arrived from 1983 forwards . It was then only a matter of time before something major happened. These cars changed the landscape of Rallying forever . I miss the old marathon events like the Lombard RAC were I got to see my first live rallycars it was a challenge trying to get from one stage to another just to glims a rally car for a few seconds on a stage .being over taken by full blown rally cars while trying to make the next stage underways or having your local Petrol Station been taken over by the works Audi team or Lancia to do between stag service's if only Smart phones had been around then. All is such a long time ago now and they have become myths just like the Silver Arrows were back in the late 30's for GP racing .
The Group B drivers had to be completely insane but I loved to watch them drive. I’m surprised those Group B cars could carry the weight of the drivers balls because you had to have huge balls to drive as fast as they did on some of those courses.
Listen, that 205 has always been my favourite car when I was a little whipper snapper what a pleasure to see you send my baby through the fresh plains of Hell
Despite EA SPORTS WRC has graphics problems and more minor problems after Update 1.3, EA SPORTS WRC still nailed it in terms of overall content and fun factors.
The fact the Audi made the RS001 Quattro be an answer to this just goes to show how fast this is. Oh and for those who don't know what the RS001 Quattro, Audi was struggling in 1985 with its S1 E2 Quattro, so developed a mid engined Quattro without the head of Audi knowing but unfortunately got destroyed because they found out eventually, but it was the basis for the Group S RS002 Quattro
I often purchase a rally game on your review/test of the game prior to release. I think I will finally be getting a rally game for the first time in a ling time
It needs the “bobble head” movement you get for onboards in GT7. It looks so odd being in a rally car, and the drivers point of view doesn’t move with the bumps on the road surface etc.
The beat coming in at the last stretch was pretty cool. And the cut to external view showing the rear of the car completely missing was hilarious. I guess I'm sticking with DR 2.0 for now 'cause I can't afford to upgrade from the old PS4 just yet. :( I wanted to like WRC Generations, but it feels like a bit of a disaster on the PS4. Horrible menus too, and it seems like the devs abandoned it soon after launch. And it's only 30 fps, which I usually don't mind, but not for racing games.
game does still have a bit of that dirt rally 2 phantom force, where it feels like the car has sort of unnatural trajectories when swinging over a bump once the speed picks up.
Just BTW, this Monsters has MUCH more Power than modern WRC Cars! The FIA regularity says explizit the Power of modern WRC Cars limited to 350 BHP. Another Point, modern WRC Cars are mostly heavier than the B Monsters back then. As Walter Röhrl mentioned back then, just a handful of drivers was able to move that Monsters on the limit. Modern WRC Cars are much easier to drive with all the electronis Gizmos they use. The B Monsters back then divides the Boys from the Men. Thanks to the blessing of early birth, I was an eyewitness to this era.......and there is a reason why this era is still etched in the collective memory.
All I got is a gamepad but I think I might enjoy this one. Wondering if it will have any multiplayer full rally events like you've done in RBR? I think it's super cool how those events change how ppl drive to preserve the car through an entire event with really high stakes if a crash happens.
Looking forward to getting my copy of this on release day. A friend of mine has had the opportunity to be hands on with this since at least this time last year, and has had nothing but good things to say about it. Sure, it isn't a sim, but it's still a damn good game, and I'm finally going to have a good reason to hook up my H-Pattern shifter on my rig :D
Drivers of these days said, the 205 was the easiest to drive. Audi had heavy understeer, S4 must have been a handful and RS200 had a very loose rear. 205 must have been very balanced with a slight understeer
It has the same power, no limited boost when you put the foot down and weighs 300kg less ^^ Even though from what I've read the Peugeot was easier to drive than the Lancia, Ford or even the Audi IRL

@@heisenberg3206Yeah... The more I watch of these previews the more disappointed I get at the road detail, road surrounding, and general visual aspects.
Im gonna be playing this with a gamepad, I've found rally simcades much more enjoyable since I stopped trying to make them as realistic as possible. Sheer fun is what I want these days and I can't wait :)
Cant imagine how slippery Jimmy's wheel must be after that 20 minute stage
Whoever decided to add in the COD: World at War music near the end of the stage is a legend. Pure nostalgia
10:00 In lieu of a local Rally Buddha, we have Rebel Tree's Kenyan cousin saving Jimmer from a grisly fate
Would love to know how this feels on a wheel Jimmer! Don't know if youre allowed to talk about it yet. You seem to be enjoying it, but would love to know specifics about how it feels with ffb and everything.
My fav is Audi Sport quattro, but as you said all Group-B cars are great.
The best sounding car.
The poster car for Group B was the Audi Quattro S1, a little heavy, a handful to drive, (much harder than that toycar you are driving) and an absolute beast of a machine. but much better balance,
The view distance on some of the stages in this game look breath taking.
Group B Lancia Delta S4. aka the Widowmaker. Most dangerous group b ever. Need to be like ballet driving those monsters. Counter Steering, correct gear in turns, jumps, and bumps. I miss Dirt games, racing online with friends.
Co-driver: rock inside
Jimmy: I did not hear a "don't cut", so guess what I will do
this game seems like it catches the feeling of speed much better than Dirt Rally 2.0, that little Peugeot seemed genuinely scary
Dude! This looks so fun. Sim or not I wanna have a go at this!
For anyone wondering, the song in the first 5 seconds is "Mein Teil" by Rammstein.
i learned to fear this car when i looked down in dirt rally and saw the boost gauge pegged at 3 bar
If you want to properly do a hand brake turn irl with awd you push the clutch in and pull the hand brake. I’m not sure how the modern ones work but that’s what you have to do for older normal cars.
Older group B didn't have a handbrake to disconnect the differential actually so IRL you wouldn't use it as you do with a modern car.
really good to hear that you like it....after wrc generations i was really unsure about the new one
This game looks and sounds fantastic
the folks that made the older wrc games lost the license to EA and Codemasters, so functionally this is Dirt Rally 3.0
forget every other WRC game. This is dirt rally.
@@sombrero4316For a year, when it will be replaced with the same game with a different number.
WRC9 was awesome. After that the handling went⬇️
Wrc generations did it better
Looks like Fun. Perhaps Black Falcons, you and the boys should try a Rallye-Cross Event at the Nürburgring
Nice to see someone posting a less than perfect drive. Looked like a blast!!
4:01 gave me a laugh, you're selling me on this game, I might need a new wheel...
Pedal cam says enough. Great video.
Whoa! Going full on old school with the clutch and 5spd on this super long stage, getting an actual workout 😅
Also which team should i join either Lancia or ford please?
I often purchase a rally game on your review/test of the game prior to release. I think I will finally be getting a rally game for the first time in a ling time
Damn they nailed the sound of the 205
Now this is a proper rally game 🔥🔥🔥
As far as the physics, does it feel more like DR2, or closer to something like WRC Generations?
It needs the “bobble head” movement you get for onboards in GT7. It looks so odd being in a rally car, and the drivers point of view doesn’t move with the bumps on the road surface etc.
13:10 dirt rally 1.0 BGM 👌👌👌
The poor peugeot at the end turned into like an Mx5
Hey Jimmy to keep the boost up, use left foot braking and keep the throttle pinned to keep the turbos spooled up and use hand brake to slow down
The beat coming in at the last stretch was pretty cool. And the cut to external view showing the rear of the car completely missing was hilarious.
I guess I'm sticking with DR 2.0 for now 'cause I can't afford to upgrade from the old PS4 just yet. :(
I wanted to like WRC Generations, but it feels like a bit of a disaster on the PS4. Horrible menus too, and it seems like the devs abandoned it soon after launch. And it's only 30 fps, which I usually don't mind, but not for racing games.
nothing beats a saturday afternoon doing high speed sight seeing on a living room tv. in HD. :D
game does still have a bit of that dirt rally 2 phantom force, where it feels like the car has sort of unnatural trajectories when swinging over a bump once the speed picks up.
It would have been fun to have the toyota celica group b car in this game seeing as they finally have the safari rally which was kinda its home lmao
Minor detail, but the dust clouds in this game look *so good.*
What about the ones in the rear view mirror? Oh wait, those are invisible.
Game seems like an upgraded Dirt rally . I'm happy about that.
Great video as always thanks Jimmy!
I can't wait for this to get the VR patch.
Remember that sim rig with inflatable harness to simulate G forces?
Think it could cope with this?
Drivers of these days said, the 205 was the easiest to drive. Audi had heavy understeer, S4 must have been a handful and RS200 had a very loose rear. 205 must have been very balanced with a slight understeer
just the sheer skill of this man.... id end up in turkey after that first hairpin
When I think of Group B it's the Ford RS200 because I used to main that thing for the 400 horsepower races in Gran Turismo 2 lol.
I want beamng damage model on a game like this!!!!! I still bought the game anyway
it touches my heart to hear the guy drive at my country kenya
Timo Salonens famous cow dodging maneuver in Safari, with T 16
Jimmy, you have to chewing on a croissant while driving a a french car. GET WITH IT MAN!
I can’t wait for this dang game first game I’ve preordered in years.
good afternnon jimmer. loving the content :)
Does this game have proper triple screen support? FOV, seating position, screen angle adjustment etc?
It doesn't yet, I would expect them to work on it post launch as there's been a lot of requests
@@dodge33cymru 🤦 I'll pass then for now. Played the last dirt for about a day before I decided it was toss on triple screen.
It has the same power, no limited boost when you put the foot down and weighs 300kg less ^^
Even though from what I've read the Peugeot was easier to drive than the Lancia, Ford or even the Audi IRL
Jarno just stated in his video there's no point in doing the time trial because he would be faster than everyone else playing it right now, I think that was a challenge aimed at you good Sir😮
