One huge tip for the mace (that I don't know if the hermits are aware of yet?) - you can actually spam-click!
The smash attack still works when the mace isn't fully charged, so you can spam away to your heart's content while falling, if it makes it easier for you to do that rather than trying to get the perfect timing lol.
(It also means you don't technically -need- to have the wind charge in your off-hand, that just means you don't have to swap weapons mid-air)
Edit: it's also on the mojang bug tracker [MC-270160], so it might not stay this way forever.

@@Mugman. No actually! The smash attack is still at full strength regardless of how charged the mace is.
The charge bar literally only affects the regular attack, not the 'smashing' effect when landing from a height of 3 blocks or more.
Edit: upon further testing, I'm not sure if this is actually true - take it with a grain of salt! The smash attack does still happen if you spam-click, but it appears to be ever-so-slightly less powerful

There's footage of it in Pearlescentmoon's ep. 24, about 15 mins in - she lands a kill on Xisuma, who was wearing netherite armor, by swapping from a wind charge to the mace in mid-air - the mace was barely half-charged at the time.
It's also mentioned on the wiki, in the very first sentence about the smash attack - although I have now noticed that it's also on the mojang bug tracker [MC-270160], so might just get patched out.
