Hi I am from Edinburgh and I just wanted to say when they say do you want sauce with your fish and chips they’ve mean a special Edinburgh sauce that is a mix of brown sauce and vinegar you can only find it in Edinburgh and I recommend it it’s nicer than it sounds 😃 Globetrotter defiantly dose it
Haddock much tastier fish imo. Impressed you have picked up a lot of the key points about freshness, but sometimes not the shops fault as it depends on customer to keep the turnover going. No idea how many of them fry in beef dripping which is the traditional method in England, but it really makes them taste delicious. I laughed out loud when I saw my first deep fried pizza. No wonder the oil gets a bit polluted on flavour. Enjoyable video thanks.
Salvatore's on Roseneath Terrace, (EH9 1JH) serve a brilliant haddock and chips if you are ever in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh. They also serve Pizza, Burgers, and Vegetarian food as well.....highly recommend it !!
Hi there, In the old days Fish and Chips were served in Newspaper at Li'aba d'oro. That was my local and cost £1 for a Fish supper. The man retired and his son took over also opening a takeaway next door. Went downhill from then. All about profit. The best chippy in Edinburgh is next to the Hearts Football Stadium on Dalry Road, called the Gorgie Fish Bar. Fantastic Fish and Chips, and the Steak Pie supper is amazing. Best chippy in Edinburgh period. I'm heading up to 60 years old so i know where to go. Gorgie Fish Bar unbeatable. Steve in Fife.
when Sean Connery used to visit Edinburgh to see his mother he used to visit the “international” fish & chip restaurant and claimed it was the best he could find but regrettably don’t think the restaurant exist anymore unless they moved to another location

Salt n Sauce is such an Edinburgh thing. The cup final between Hearts and Hibs was even nicknamed the Salt n Sauce Final. The. Globetrotter has been rebranded this year but still sells a superior product.
As a Scottish guy living in Germany this was food porn 😂 Should be salt n sauce in Edinburgh though. I’m from Glasgow but always liked the Edinburgh way when over there.
My local Chippy in Aberdeen charges £11 for large haddock , £3.50 for small chips and £2.90 for curry sauce ( not that I have that with fish ). So £17.40 not the £7-£ 9 suggested . Annoying thing is the fish is landed at Aberdeenshire ports .

Also Edinburgh chips require salt and sauce which is a mix of your HP sauce with vinegar so no need to carry your own! Other areas like Glasgow only have salt and vinegar, where you live matters!

There are multiple buses headed that way from the wider city centre - 26 & 19 probably among the best options. But I also quite like taking the train from Waverley! Drops you off a bit further from the beach, but the walk towards it is enjoyable .)

It's called Cafe Presko. To my knowledge it's the only Filipino restaurant in Edinburgh and as far as I'm aware it hasn't been v-logged by anyone else yet, so you'd have an exclusive! Oh, and my wife, Harriet (A Filipina, of course) works there (but make sure you if you do decide to go, let me know and go along on a day she is working there as that's when it tends to get be at its best ... as reviews tend to reflect this). It's a great wee place. Keep up the good work! :-)

I've lived in Edinburgh many years and never had anything better than mediocre. It's just not the place to go for decent fish and chips. Edinburgh is very expensive and the portions are quite small.

Fish and chips comes out of a Sephardim Jewish kosher tradition. Flanders in Belgium particularly Antwerpen was settled by Jewish refugees from Iberia ( Sepharad = from Latin "Hesperides" ).
Don't even think about going to a fish and chip shop in Edinburgh, they all expect you to put sauce on it, because there all bad. A good fish and shop would feel insulted if you put sauce on it. Sorry, been here a number of years, had to cross the border to England to get a good one. .... And I Come From Ireland....

yes if the fish tastes strong its probably from block fish caught by a factory ship and is probably the cheepest fish you can buy.

The biggest mistake right away is using HP sauce. If you’re having sauce on a supper then you should use chippy sauce.
