My father fought in the battle of Normandy and was deeply, deeply affected when he saw the emaciated Jews left in a concentration camp hurriedly abandoned by the Nazi guards.
As a child I found a small black book of photos he brought back from Germany of the atrocities in camp called “We Must Never Forget”. I NEVER will. I’m now 71, my dad died at 102 alarmed at Trump’s threat to our country. I’m glad he didn’t live to see Trump’s continuing influence today.

idk Maybe they've always wanted to break up peaceful protests with tanks and howitzers. I agree that's terrible. 45 wants the military deployed in interior situations, which is correctly prohibited in most democracies. In Germany, there was even serious debate over whether or not the Army could be deployed to sandbank a flooded river, about 20 years ago. Some countries learn from their dark history. Others have short memories.

My 97 year old step-father was buried in Calverton Cemetery and he received the service accorded a military person. Trump's reaction to the violence on Jan 6 reminds me, so much, of Bin Laden sitting in front of a TV, watching videos of 9/11, over and over and over again. Bin Laden enjoyed witnessing the pain of those towers going down with hundreds of people still in them. Trump fervently wished for a similar outcome...to see his enemies being dragged out to face the wrath of a mob he had set upon them.

Despite his medical issues, he joined the Army at the beginning of WWII and served until the end of the war when he was admitted to a hospital chapel in Colorado Springs with a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis. Trump's bone spurs were a coward's excuse to dodge responsibility to his country. Some wars (WW II; Ukraine; Revolutionary; Civil) may be "necessary" ("good"?) wars, but ones like the 2nd Iraqi war spearheaded by Darth Vader Chenney (and bushette) to profiteer on the backs of millions killed and severely damaged, are evil. Some military options can appear to be the lessor of two evils and may involve fewer sacrifices than in-action. It is so important that our leaders understand the lives altering significance of the military choices they make in our imperfect world.

He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and for the remainder of his 65 years he was haunted by memories of his WWII experiences which became my childhood bedtime stories about the horrors of Nazi Germany, the heroism amd sacrifices made by soldiers he fought with, and his hero, General George Patton. Today we would understand that Dad had PTSD. He is no longer with us, but I simply can't imagine what he would think of MAGA and trump.
I come from a small family, but my Dad served in the Army (Europe WWII), his uncle and cousins served in the Air Force (WWII Pacific Theater), my husband served in the Marine Corps (Vietnam), and my son served in the Air Force (he would insist I clarify that he was not deployed to Afghanistan). Your best so far, especially the interview with the film maker. Another point is; you are giving us the language we need to discuss the threat that has come upon us, and getting the right language is a big step that we all have to take if we are to be able to stand up against the wave of hatred and paranoia MAGA represents.

Well said. Language is so integral with thought. With all the "gas-lighting" and "flooding the zone with BS" and disinformation bots running wild, it is very helpful to get grounded in sane perspectives and recognition of ways to try to see through the "fog of (political) war"

Vance's "It was a joke," excuse reminds me of how my abusive husband used to verbally abuse me, and when he was done crushing me down into a puddle of tears, he'd say " I was just joking."

I know that experience. Then it was, "What's wrong with you? You can't even take a joke," with scorn in his voice.

I found it interesting that Vance claims that women don't like Tim Walz, when in truth I, and every woman I've spoken to, whatever their political leanings, absolutely LOATHES J.D. Vance. On the other hand, women who've had great dads tend to say that Tim Walz reminds them of their father, while women with not-so-good fathers wish they'd had a dad like him.

I couldn't agree with you more. Vance, of course, is lying. Trump believes that women like him, too. If they do, they are as delusional as he is. Personally, I don't believe they do. No self-respecting woman could.

The loathsome Jessie Waters on Fox said the same thing. He and Vance are 100% repulsive. Unfortunately Trump reminds me of my dad, but I’m smart and got lucky - Tim Walz reminds me of my husband. 💙 I’m sure Walz triggers some serious insecurity in these MAGA guys

Harry, I cry when I see that picture of Kamala and her great-niece as well. It is so beautiful and overwhelming, and thank you so much for your view of it and how it is a picture of psychological health. It's so nice to have examples of healthy mental status in front of us. Some days, it is almost like a salve after seeing so much of that hideous orange man. Watching clips of Kamala in her live bus tour moments of unguarded conversations just makes me fall in love with this wonderful woman and the complete person that she is, and I am so excited to vote for her.

My Dad and many other men loved our country and Democracy so much that they lied about their age and said that they were 18 instead of 17 so they could serve in the military. When I vote for VP Kamala Harris, I will not just be voting for myself, but in memory of my Dad, Henry‼️🗳️💙🇺🇸

Toward the idea of trying to understand his followers, I’d love to see the doctors’ explore the narcissist’s victims: how they get sucked in; how they can break free; how to help someone in that relationship, etc.

Trump and Vance's response to childcare points to the devaluing of what was once believed to be "woman's work". i.e. the care of children.
