The Borealopelta specimen was discovered in at the Millenium Mine in Alberta, in an area where only marine fossils had been discovered previously. It is believed this Borealopelta specimen may have washed out to sea after death.

This ankylosaur is remarkable for the large bony spikes that protrude from its shoulders.
