"OMG" and "Lion" are from the same era, so they have the same vibe. "OMG" is often called "The Lesbian Anthem", by fans. The premise of "OMG" is the group playing Angels being seduced by a Devil (Soojin), and eventually not caring if it damns them or not. Also, "Hwaa" (my favorite song from the early years) is the end of a trilogy of songs; "Hann", "Hann (Alone in WInter)" and "Hwaa" telling the story the singer ending a relationship, despairing at their choice, and eventually overcoming the situation by remaking themselves. The thing about I-Dle, is that they switch things up every album, reworking their roles and trying new sounds and concepts, which shows their diversity, talents and why they are as successful as they are today, only a few years after their debut. Soyeon is the group's executive producer, designs the concepts and writes all their title tracks and many of the B-Sides, but Minnie and Yuqi also write many tracks of late, and Miyeon isstarting to get more involved as well. As a group, they all have input into the direction they take, their choreography and concepts as well.
there's also a theory that says soojin is actually trying to help the girls because the one making them sin is miyeon, as it is seen when yuqi finds the throne room.

HWAA, 화 (火花), is composed of a Korean and a Chinese font, where both are translated as the expression "Hwaa". In Korean, this translates as "anger" (화, anger) or "flower" (花, flower), while in Chinese it means "burn" (火, burn) or "spark" (火花, spark). They play with these two meanings.
In fact, the pronunciation of HWAA is the same as the Chinese word 花（flower）. Maybe this is one of the reasons.
火 is more like "fire". Burn is 燒
They are burning their hearts that turned cold (winter) because of the pain with "fire" so that flowers can "bloom" again in their hearts and experience spring once more~
Soyeon is the main, and now even executice Producer of I-dle. She also wrote and produced their debut song and Album. Minnie and Yuqi also have writing, composition and producing credits on several of their b-sides.
It's also the girls that plan out everything, from concept, choreo, to costumes and make-up. They are a totally self produced group, which is why each members' personality shines through their artistry. It's said, that Soyeon, as leader, also refused the girls receiving vocal lessions, because she didn't want the members to loose their distinctive voices and singing techniques, which often happens, specially when they are trained by the same vocal coaches. Soyeon pushed, that their vocal differences, was what would make them stand out from others.
A little context for the Soojin situation... School bullying was/is a "thing" in South Korea. There were accusations made against many idols at that time, both men and women. Accusations were made against Soojin about her middle school days... many years earlier. No credible proof was presented and proof that was given was found to be suspicious. Over time most accusations faded away and those accused went back to a normal life, but Soojins case just stayed alive when a famous actress became involved and a particular gossip writer kept it going. Korea needed someone to make an example of (since nobody had really been found guilty and paid a price) and Soojin was made into the sacrificial lamb to appease the public. It was all very painful and quite unfair. (G)I-dle took 18 months away from activities during this entire time and many thought that they would disband as a group. Eventually, (G)I-dle came back with the "I never die" album (Masterpiece). From that time forward Soyeon has sort of made it her mission to turn the mirror back on to the Korean public and show them how they mistreat idols... female idols in particular. (G)I-dle kept the spirit of Soojin in the group going forward. From "I never die" forward, you can see Soojin influences and references sprinkled throughout songs and music videos. After 2-3 years of exile, Soojin returned to music as a soloist. Again, the Korean public was skeptical, but international fans and many Koreans (who may have been influenced by (G)I-dles messaging) reacted positively and Soojins return was mostly successful. She still keeps a low profile in Korea but is (more or less) thriving everywhere else. Most fans still hope that Soojin with triumphantly return to (G)I-dle soon. It would be an unprecedented move to bring Soojin back, but doing brave new things is sort of (G)I-dle's trademark these days. Soyeon is very smart and it feels like she has been building the groups image since "I never die" to make just this sort of thing happen.
And the accusations turned out to be false

And even if she did (which I still believe she didn't), it's all in the past...and I'm sure she would have blamed herself a lot and regretted what she had done

"AB IMO PECTORE" from OMG means "from the bottom of my heart" , "with deepest affection" . That part only happens on the MV, not in the official audio :)
You say that in TOMBOY, (G)I-DLE changed and everything became different, but they have no concept at all, every comeback is something new. tomboy was their last chance to get back on their feet, so they gave them more freedom and stopped restraining them so much, so the songs became more daring and the girls were able to express thoughts and opinions and show themselves through the songs.
Just information for future videos. As of the last set of MVs, Soyeon is now the Executive producer of the group, and therefore now has financial control over such things as MV production, in addition to her previous roles of songwriter and producer. Super Lady cost 1 Billion won to make, and half of this cost was covered by the girls of G Idle themselves. The fact they are now paying costs directly implies they now have a stake in themselves. In this sense, I think Cube is now just a co-investor in the group, and the distributor. Soyeon used to have a concept for a song/MV, and had to do a presentation to Cube to get the OK to proceed, however, that is no longer the case, and that has shown up in the music and MVs they have done since Tomboy, which have tended to be increasingly boundary pushing videos.
G Idle are at this point undoubtedly the most independent female K pop group ever.
Gidle is getting better and better in my opinion :D Idk if someone told u yet but they are pretty self produced... Soyeon the Rapper makes writes all the Songs and they decide together who gets to sing what parts.
That's one of the things I love about (G)I-DLE.
@@fydrau Just to clarify - Soyeon does write and compose on all of the title tracks ie. main singles and a lot of the B-sides. However there also a lot of B-sides written and composed by Minnie and Yuqi. So since 2021 all of their albums are basically split between Soyeon, Minnie and Yuqi songs.
Miyeon has also started to get involved in songwriting. She wrote lyrics for Rain which is from her 2022 solo debut (that song was composed by Yuqi btw), and she also wrote lyrics for Vision from their latest album.
Anyways, looking forward to your next (G)I-DLE reaction! Maybe after that, if you like, you could start checking out the rest of their excellent discography!
28:28 - YES! soyeon is actually credited in most of their songs, for the newer releases such as tomboy, nxde, etc, she even made slideshow presentations to the company about the concept she would like to follow, nowadays, during super lady, she was gifted a team by their company so they can work on that for her! they have a recording behind series, where you can see soyeon directing the members during production!
Tomboy: From this era onwards, they decided to just be called I-DLE, cutting out the G. The G, in Korean, is read as YEOJA and means female. This is because they wanted to be recognized for their talents above any designation, including gender. It was symbolic for a return that was so controversial because many people believed that after Soojin left the group they would disband, but they returned, different and stronger.
Nowadays, with global expansion and great recognition from fans around the globe, they decided to accept being recognized in both ways, both (G)I-DLE and I-DLE. Korean fandom prefers to call them I-DLE.
And oh, yes, SoYeon is wearing an Anime Outfit in TOMBOY. She is 100% Otaku. She loves Anime that's why FATE (2's B-side music), she wrote it while thinking of animation. You should also check it out!!!

Soojin's last m/v w/Idle was Last Dance. Cube tried to black her out. New, restored version by Groovy Room restores her to some degree. Her solo m/v, Got It, Artist of the Month, Studio Choom, before departing Idle is 🔥🔥🔥.
I was coming to say this - no one remembers Last Dance. And for me it was especially hurtful they purposely re-developed it to cut Soojin out of shots you can *see* she was in.

At risk of repeating what someone else may have noted, it is essential for understanding (G)i-dle to appreciate the importance of Soojin to the members. The dismissal of Soojin was seen as unjust and was traumatic to the members, and even threatened the continued existence of the group. (Hence, the defiant name of the next ep, I Never Die, featuring the hit Tomboy.) Kpop contracts are oppressive and comprehensive, and the remaining members could never directly address the situation, but the group consistently incorporated hints and references to keep Soojin's name in the consciousness of fans. Of course, Soojin has now re-debuted as a solo artist--very unusual for an idol who has been involved in a scandal--and (G)i-dle's newest MV, Revenge, is all about her. It will be very interesting to see what happens with (G)i-dle and Soojin when (G)i-dle's contract expires in a little over a year!
yes minnie has an amazing whistle, alot of other artists actually reached out n asked minnie to whistle in their songs after HANN(alone) !! Minnie and Yuqi (+soyeon ofc who is a fully recognized KOMCA member - korean music copyright association, only the 3rd female idol out of 28 total members who r idols) are our producer/writing line, and miyeon just made her producing debut on their group tracks w their newest album alongside minnie :) absolutely love how involved they r w their music n artistry, n u defo gotta check out their live performances/killing voice, they sound even better w more raw vocals imo n their stage presence is insane 😊 tysm for ur reaction n yes miyeon 110% "princess-ifies" absolutely everything she does, including boy group dance covers LOL

Soyeon let the member choose their lines actively and shuhua struggled a lot with korean and asked soyeon if she could get less lines before their debute. Since queendoms performance with lion shes a lot more confidence they wanted to show shuhuas talent in lion.
In their year of being apart because of the soojin scandal shuhua practaced a lot (she always did) and thats the reason she improved so much

Oh My God and Hwaa, two of the most artistic MVs that I-DLE has produced.
From Lion to Hwaa, it was the breakthrough era of I-DLE. They raised to prominence big time.. and then the unfortunate controversy happened.
Hwaa is actually Mandarin- it means both "flower" and "fire" depending on the tone/character which is why the lyrics used them interchangeably!
I love all their songs, but their latest releases are a bomb!! I hope you continue reacting to them ❤
I would recommend watching their recording behind for the song super lady you can see how soyeon is directing and helping with the vocal recordings
A bit unrelated to (G)i-dle but if you like deep voices like Yuqi's, I'd recommend to listen to Mamamoo ! They're a four members group with heavenly vocals and their rapper Moonbyul also has a deep voice ! And their discography is just amazing !! All their MVs are incredible but if you want to start in chronological order, their debut is Mr Ambiguous.
There's also Dreamcatcher who has a rapper like that but I don't know the group as well as mamamoo or (G)i-dle. I love their songs Boca, Good Night and Deja Vu though if you're interested.

To what happened with Soojin: She was in an bullying scandal.
Bullying scandals in Korea are one of the worst scandals you can have.
Soojin later on was recognized as innocent, but the damage was already done.
Cube(company/entertaiment behind G-Idle) kicked her out of the group & terminated her contract with them(on march 5 2022).
She now is under an oder company called brd communication, in the same month that she joined brd, she also announced her solo debut(oct 2023).
Her solo debut was released on the 8th of November 2023.
Brd communication was also founded in 2023, Soojin is they're only artist. They have distrobutions with genie music & stone music entertaiment.
Because Soojin had this bullying scandal, she was/is quite unpopular in korea, for her it's hard to make content with korean artists, korean companies, music shows and much more, bc Companies don't want to be resembled to her. She has it hard, but lucky her, when she still was in G-Idle she was very popular, she has an solid international fanbase that always supports her(me included).

In the beginning and also the end Minnie sings "I was drawn into the music and fall right into it" so maybe it's about their passion for music, which, despite "taking them to the stars" may sometimes become something dangerous, because they can't escape it. Oh my god is definitely about falling in love with a Goddess, the rumour, or story, is that the Goddess is Yuqi, because at one point, Soyeon had a bad crush on her. Of course, I have zero evidence for this, but an interesting theory.

Hwaa also means anger and Soyeon is playing a lot with language. I have heard several Koreans express how poetic the lyrics are, which makes me more impressed with Yuqi's Chinese translation of the song - Shuhua was going on about how poetic Yuqi's version is, so i think she must have really captured the essence of the song in the translation.
Well, English is not my mother tongue so sorry for the mistakes. SHUHUA didn't have as much participation because she suffered a lot of hater because she wasn't very good at speaking Korean (she got some words wrong while singing) so she asked to have fewer lines during the songs out of fear. I think it's only in these more current songs that she's having more lines.
The full album 'I Never Die' (with Tomboy') is really a top album, with some rock vibe and more..
(G)I-DLE don’t make a bad song. You def need to check out their performances & b-sides, especially “put it straight (nightmare version)”. It’s soooo good & shows they aren’t afraid to scare you. 😅😹😻
If you're a fan of the rock sound from Tomboy, you will probably like "Never Stop Me" a B-side from the same album (which has a performance video) and probably Liar (another B-side from that album, which does not have an official performance version).

As a Soojin bias, this still hurts everytime I watch HWAA. Soojin left her group due to bully allegations made by Shin ae (An actress they say). Cube company didn't really do their best to protect her because Soojin left for the sake of her group's image. Addition, that this announcement happened when they are in their home countries which means they're separated to each other that made it worst. After that, Idle become more bold to their company and always jokingly roast their company especially Shuhua who typed "2 years left..."(Year 2022)as their message to cube at the variety show. Another fact bro. After Soojin left, Soyeon said that it felt like they lost the main character in their art and how they will continue without the protagonist(Soojin). That's why Soyeon made Soojin as their concept for their comebacks like the 6 balloons at the trunk in Tomboy mv. (You will also see the refferences of Soojin especially in thei Nxde mv). Soojin really love Marilyn Monroe and they made it as a concept in Nxde including Soojin as an animation with same placing of the mole. Love them forever, they do have unique voices that comes good when singing as a group.
It wasn't Shin Ae that made the allegations, I mean she cryptically added to them, but she didn't initially start them. The ones who started the allegations were 2 sisters (who I'll call sister A and B). According to Soojin, Sister A and her were friends in middle school but they got into a fight over the phone, which resulted in Soojin cursing at her. Sister B then got involved and scolded Soojin for cursing at Sister A. Soojin proceeded apologized to Sister A but stopped being friends with her after their fight.
