Originally I thought that they'd cover the entire story in 24 episodes, but after re-evaluating which chapters have been covered already and how deep we're likely to be by episode 24, I think it'll actually need a 2nd Season to finish without feeling rushed. So I really hope this show proves popular enough to get a 2nd Season, because the 2nd half of the story is even better, and the ending is just so good...
It is unlikely that they will manage to adapt the whole 97 chapters into 24 episodes, unless they cut a lot of stuff out. Two 2-cour seasons seems just right.
These (default?) Netflix subtitles are not a proper translation by the way. As far as I've heard, Netflix is using the english dub as subtitles. It's up to how meticulous you want to be, but you could consider checking out other subtitle options.
The manga is abt 100 chapters long. 2 chapters/episode isn't gonna cut it. Even 3/episode won't. ESPECIALLY because the tone completely shifts later on. While it still remains about self-sufficience and dungeon ecolohy and monster biology, it's not about cooking them. We are introduced to 2 more adventuring groups who adventure separately from the main group. We also get setting explanation, as well as magic/cosmology, about dungeons... there're a total of, depending on how you count it, 4 main villains with their story arcs, as they go deeper and deeper. They won't be able to do 2-3ch/ep for every one. Dialogue gets heavier and there are actual battles happening too.
Also, it's extremely hard to skip chapters later on. One thing that the manga does is, it will show some detail in chapter 20, like a trap, or a page in Laios notebook, or a flashback of the sister, and then it will reference it in chapter 75.
Netflix has two English sub options: “English” and “English (CC)”. The first one is the one they should use, which translates the Japanese dub. The second, the one they are currently using, is closed captions for the English dub.
A Basilisk is a reptile, the snake part been the actual main part of it. In European mythology it's depicted as the snake/chicken part. Other accounts/cultures have it sometimes as mainly snake and also having Medusa like power. Either pretifying gase or venom. The snake part also varies depending of the culture, for example Indian culture accounts have it as a king cobra.
It's also named a Cockatrice in European mythology.
