  • In this video:
    The Richard Trevithick's Penydarren Locomotive Replica at the National WaterFront Museum (Swansea) is in steam and moving along a short lengh of track. It is part of the 'Wales on Wheels' Classic Transport event 17/may/2014. Also some quick shots of the vintage cars and buses around the museum, marina and Dylan Thomas' Square.

    I'm from Merthyr Tydfil where Richard Trevithick lived and where the Locomotive was built and ran, there are still original stone railway sleepers and the old line from the oldest running trains in the world if you know where to look, I walk past them from time to time.

    Very spectacular.
    I've seen this engine in 2002 at Bochum Dahlhausen railway museum during their 25 th anniversary. Very good that the engine still works.

    There isn't a single shot in the video from the engineers side / view. Also, when trying to show a technical thing, the picture should not be moving all the time. A few close ups on parts of the engine would also have been nice. Like how wheelaxles are attached to the boiler, cylinder covers and details of the valve gear.
    And when trying to show this steam locomotive in action, there should of course be pictures of how coal is showeled in. A mention of the depth/width/area of the grate, either in voice over, or graphics should be accompanying.
    Also at finish of operation, how the ashpan is cleared - and specifically how the chimney is cleared, since there is no smokebox.
    General technical information should also be given, such as cylinder dimensions, operating pressure and general dimensions.
    All in all, this video is terribly lacking in just about every respect, as an attempt to show a historical locomotive. The way the video is done, it could have been cut down to not more than 50 seconds of the locomotive moving.
