Het enige wat zij meenamen, was hun religie en muziek. Tijdens het slaven op plantages, werd er veel gezongen. Een artistiek patroon van afwisselend vraag en antwoordzang. Deze Afrikaanse invloeden hebben zich in Suriname, na de afschaffing van de slavernij gevormd tot een eigen genre, genaamd ‘Kawina’.
Flexclusive en Kayente vormen met het nummer ‘Odo Ye De’ (Remix) een hedendaagse communicatiemiddel voor de afstand die in het verleden was afgelegd. Met deze Kawina remix mengt Kayente, Surinaamse invloeden met het welbekende Afrobeats.
