i grew up in a house high up on the stourbridge road and we had the most amazing view of the pool where you're walking in the frost. I haven't seen the fens pools since 1990 so thank you so much for sharing this video and teaching me so much about the area. I never even knew about that large wheel you show near the start of the video. I remember round oak steelworks and my grandad worked there for many years, and I remember merry hill farm, but you are teaching me things I never knew. thank you so much. It's lovely to see a younger person so interested in local history.

oh and I remember as a very small child around 1972, there used to be a yellow and black train which would run across the very end of our garden on a track but not the track you show. I never knew what it was for and it's so vague in my memory as I was only around 4 years old when I used to see it

Your welcome thank you it's great to share these places as many locals might not have seen a certain section and the history there's tonnes if go back on old os maps and history books it's crazy in that area . Merry hill farm would have been good to see shame it's disappeared we lost a huge chunk of land to pave way for a monstrosity of a shopping center 🤣

Hi Drew, Another interesting video from you, well done mate. What or who initially inspired your interest in exploring the black country region?

    • @MidlandsOutdoors

Thanks mate , I've had a interest in the black country for years for it's history considering there was a lack of videos on the platform I decided to document most of these interesting locations where industry once thrived . It's become a weekly hobby now to go out and find locations . Originally my grandad learned me tonnes about the old days as he worked in a button factory what's no longer there now and how it all operated course I've been in a few times when I was a kid and I found it very interesting seeing what the factory was like

Another great area to explore. I've always said there's lots of green areas around Birmingham and its surrounding areas. You're lucky to have those assets. I saw Himley was on your maps in quite a few shots, and it reminded me about the Crooked House pub. I saw a report that said the owners have got to rebuild it, so there's a bit of good news for you. Seems like somebody's in the brown stuff!

Hi mate been a brilliant explore this one for the scenery . There was lots of himley pits in that area . That's good news tbh the owners have a lot of work to do can imagine if they don't build it they will be in more trouble lol . Be amazing to see a history rise from the ground again

Cool video. Looking forward to part two. Will you be following the old, now very overgrown, railway line down to lenches bridge where it passes under the main road to Pensnett Trading Estate/Shut End? We used to play along the line as kids and scramble up the banks when the trains came along. Under the bridge is now fenced off.

Thank you , I'll be covering as much as possible in part 2 around the buckpool and the gwr line further down some interesting history and lost canal pieces down there to cover
