It’s ironic that Ghost the runt Of the litter has gotten so much bigger then any of his siblings but also symbolic since Jon has basically done the same thing in a way
J Double C actually he should be way bigger, remember how big grey wind got way back in season 3 when Robb used it to scare Jaime? Or how big nymeria is? Even for a ring of the litter he should be so much bigger now that he's an old direwolf!
124Nightwing Do you like the original Okami also? I think that's one of my all time favorite video games aside from the Zelda series. Just something about using a joystick to make quick circles instead of your fingers that makes it that much more challenging, and fun :)
dire wolves did not get the respect on the show they deserved. they are one of the many tragic loses in the film adaptation. its still a good show and i prey for ghost to survive in season 8.
It's not that they weren't respected, it's just that the CGI cost was too much to make them a regular part of the show especially since they also had to deal with three full sized dragons.
They represent the real tragic extinct from various reasons. The last wolf, Ghost, by his name describe the lost and beautiful subspecies of wolves and also depict the perpetual live in legends, belifs and nightmarish respect carved in our colectiv inconscience from the begining of times. Respect.
This was absolutely amazing Anneka! And I was even more pleased when you encouraged people to rescue these beautiful wolf dogs! Magnificent work! Subscribed and Sharing this to Facebook ❤️
The direwolves are CGI They're beautiful on the show but too many people go out and buy Malamutes, Huskies, and now wolfdogs because they see them on GoT. Most of the time these people are ill equipped to handle these creatures. I have friends who work at animal rescue organizations and you wouldn't believe how many huskies, malamutes, and now wolfdogs they're getting with GoT related names
I'd take one or two of these lovely animals to raise as my pet! I have a 13 yrs old Chowchow very well fed and healthy, even though he's an ancient by now accordingly to his dog age...
I love wolves and when I read game of thrones and then learned they made it into a show, I was excited! I love the research behind the direwolves and wish they had Ghost implemented into the last season. I feel since they are a huge significance to Starks, they should have had a bigger role. I love Ghost, Starks and particularly Nymeria and Arya. ❤
Me too that was one of a few dissappintments for me . That and I wish they had made the last season longer. I felt it was a bit rushed, would have liked, a little more story line over, maybe, 8 or 10 episodes. Would have been a lot better in my opinion. Although, I did, still enjoy it; as it was still good for the most part.
I do love Game of thrones, but man i allways ended up roaring in tears and running out of the house to hug my great Bernhardiner when something terrible happened to them.
This was very well done! I especially want to thank you for encouraging people that are considering owning a wolf-dog to extensive research and most importantly---adopting one from a rescue. The number of people that have purchased wolf-dogs and similar looking breeds and then abandoned them is staggering! The breeders really are despicable human beings to continue breeding and selling, knowing what ends up happening.
Red eyes most likely represented the blood raven. Plus red was more closely associated with Lannister’s. If you read the books, it kind of delves into the similarities between ghost and blood raven
Beautiful Anneka... your talent is amazing. I'm not too familiar with games of such but this was a excellent break down for those who don't know. Excellent... & as always beautiful.
Do you know the Dire Wolves were name after the original prehistoric species the dire wolf (Canis dirus) which their fossils were found in Las Angeles California.
Yes,the Dire Wolves lived mostly here in North America during the Ice Age.And yes, their fossils have been found in the La Brea Tar Pits in Los AngelesCalifornia.
I adopted a Siberian Husky late July, and his name was Stark (we renamed him Zeke) and apparently Stark is a name of one in the show. I haven't watched Game of Thrones, and don't like it because of the increase in Huskies and Malamutes being abandoned because people want the "dire wolf" looking dog and don't do their research on the breeds and don't know the work and time they require, so those people abandon them.
you are right, loads of Northern Inuits and husky types are being purchased off the back of Game of Thrones and SADLY the breeders dont care as long as they are raking it in. There are a lot of wolfdog breeders here in the UK who I would describe as not being far off a PUPPY MILL and they churn the pups out on the online websites for about £2000 a pup and are making stacks of money,.....its really tragic. Stark was the name of the HOUSE, not the wolves - the wolves were all owned by the Stark children.
+Heidi Rebecca This is so sad to hear. Before I switched to rescuing dachshund, I started w/German Shepherds. My 1st one was a beautiful white stray that would not leave & later she had all white pups, we kept a male..huge dog like his white dad. I also rescued a Malamute, completely different breed. Strong prey breed, killed the neighbor cats that came to our yard & ran away, ran away until we could not find her (B4 chips) My advise is to rescue or get German Shepherds. If you're going for a puppy, extra plus if the parents have the longer hair for the more wolf look. GSD's are working class, highly intelligent/trainable, need exercise but can tolerate inactivity (like when at work)
Heidi Noland yes that pissed me of too the immature legion of fans that this series has created it seems more about the money than the real story at this point. Or the dogs being abused in this case....
I have had my (Dire Wolf) AKA husky lol for 2 years this December (Before I started watching GOT just started watching it this year) I know I am a little behind on the show ... but it does make me sad that people do not research animal before purchasing... I was the third person to own my Loki he is a beautiful black and white Siberian Husky with a black mask around his eyes. I could not see my life without him. It took a lot of training and I have had him since he was about 9 months... poor thing was passed around after his people left him with family... I was his third home in a week :(.... after being bit twice and told by my boss I should give him up after 2 weeks.... poor thing needed a stable home and I am glad I never gave up on him... he knows he is loved...
It’s good that you did that for him. Owning a mastiff myself, it’s clear to me now how little ppl think of how difficult it is for large breeds to get homes and stable ones at that. They can be some of the greatest companions if you let them. They need care and nurturing for them to feel safe and not like they’re going to be thrown away again.
I like how informative your videos are, Anneka. Especially the "Top 10" list for wolves, in which you go into much more detail than I thought a video of this kind would. Great content!
I just subscribed. I am a fan of Game of Thrones and really enjoyed this video. The Direwolves are truly beautiful and majestic creatures. Thanks for the special! I look forward to seeing your other animal videos. 😊
It sounds suspicious that "Birds & Animals" did not respond to your request for information about the dog. Makes one wonder just how this outfit treats the animals they hire out to film industry.
Wait one moment! Quigley is in Calgary, Canada? ! I live in southern Alberta and I never herd of this before I know the wolves in Innisfail Discovery Center north of Calgary, Nala and Luna (amazing set of sisters, so much fun to play with, they are very affectionate and are pure grey wolves) I must look more into this I didn't know there were other wolf keepers here! Thank you for the great video Anneka :) Also in Drumheller Tyrell Museum there is an actual "Dire Wolf" Skeleton of the ancient giant breed.
I for As a dog lover I missed seeing the Dire Wolves and Would have really loved seeing more of the “dire wolf scenes. After all, they were so love by the Stark children and Ghosts was a huge part of Jon Snow’s life. I k ow the dragons cost money as well. I wish there had been a way to do both and cut in other non essential areas. But this is only my opinion and I am not in film industry to know what could and could not be done. I have to believe that the writers for HBO and everyone else involved would have the Dire Wolves in more scenes and not die off the way they did if at all possible. At least I would like to think that. Otherwise love GOT and entire cast! Can’t wait for prequel.
Anneka thanks for this lovely video walk down GOT memory lane & an even bigger thank for your responsible & deeply important message at the end (plus the excellent links that give your message actionable power) It’s so sad to think of all the Northern Inuits & wolf-dogs who were purchased and now find themselves abandoned & in need of loving homes
You should do a video on Goberians, the beautiful looks of a wolf dog but the easy going personality of a golden retriever, we have one and love him to bits!!
Good job in putting together the GoT special. The short CG video was interesting as well. You look like you just walked off a set as well, which is to say you look amazing.
Although I (by choice) don't own a TV, I do love animals, & I very much appreciate ypur work with them. Thanks Anneka, for this fascinating info about these lovely creatures! (And btw, while not the focus of the video, I very much appreciate seeing your lovely self as well!💖)
Ohh, you finally did it. I was keep writing comments about it thought that you never take this a serious idea. By the day, Dress, hair style etc. doubles your attractiveness, now we admire you more than ever :) However, I wish you could make a trip to the original place where they keep these wolves (of Game of T) and record some of them. Buty, somehow I have a bit bad feeling about that company who trains those wolves as a actors/actresses in movies. It more feels like they are one of those companies gives no shit about animal just uses them as income products.
yes I would love to - Ghost actor is in Canada and the only other inuits I can visit would be the ones in Ireland. The animal company behind the other inuits used didnt bother to repond to me...I guess as they get nothing out of it
Have never watched Game of Thrones but loved this video! I had a huskie/alsatian cross and I remember walking him through Green Lanes when a man asked me if he was a wolf: I said "Yes- I always like to walk my wolf through the London streets!" and he looked horrified and walked off in the opposite direction. RIP Miley, a beautiful dog but rubbish with burglars!
I lived in downtown Vancouver BC with a huge shepherd. Ppl would cross the street to avoid us. She was a doll, as long as there was no threat to me. RIP Asia.❤️
Canis Dirus, I know a lot about prehistoric organisms and their names, to call a dire wolf fictional is but an insult to their prehistoric might when they ruled the Americas along side sabertooth tigers and short nose bears. Found all the way from Canada to Argentina, they were in both the far north and far south and everywhere in between in real life, they aren’t quite as magical though, still an encounter would feel mystical and amazing if you met them, though probably terrifying as well. Yes, dire wolves are real animals which did encounter early native Americans, and were likely inspiration for some of the wolf inspired gods of Native Americans. They were still powerful in real life, but not quite as big.
Love this long needed GOT related Wolf video Anneka and I'll be sure to check out the Dire wolves UK link for a future holiday. Also loving the outfit you chose to wear for this great video you should be the beautiful mother of wolves hehe , thanks for the amount of effort you put into your videos and the amazing things you do for the animals of this sadly mistreated earth we live on.
Anneka Svenska No sadly I do not I'm just a crazy Wolf lover hope to get my degree in animal behaviour and science and go on to do the amazing things that people like you do for the wild.
My goodness Anikka I just came across this video of yours from 5 years ago ,how beautiful you are then and now you havent changed you are as beautiful now as then even more now
I know that direwolves were real...yes, I could make a film about them. I wasn't going to include the real ones in this film as it would distract from the Game of Thrones mythical creatures.
So interesting to finally know their background! Great video as always! Indeed though, even in Belgium, I've seen a sharp increase in wolfish dogs like the czechoslovakian wolfdog or simply siberian huskies and the pounds end up being filled with them because people, once more, buy a puppy and have no idea what it will take to keep them happy, healthy and well behaved. My three dogs all come from different rescues and I had never seen so many Huskies, Malamutes and so on than when I went to those rescues. Please people, adopt, don't shop...and for God's sake know what you're getting yourself into before getting a puppy/dog no matter what breed it is.
Shopping isn't the demon people make it out to be, however impulse buying cutesy wootsey puppers because they're the latest fad is a major problem. Two of my dogs i found in the wild (southern italy), ones a labxpit i think and the female is a german working line pointer that was an unwanted litter and dumped in a field at 6 weeks old... my third i bought from a breeder, needed a guard/protection dog, did my research and ended up with my boy loki. Spent two years looking into the breed he is, spoke to various breeders, then settled on a particular guy in my region. People buy dogs like my boy loki (old type italian mastiff, not neo or cane corso... long story) because they're adorable as puppers, then a year down the line you have a dog bred to fight/guard/protect and attack things, that now weighs 110 pounds and growing, with no clue as to HOW to deal with a dog like that.... all because some vain sod on social media put up that cute pupperoony picture a year ago. That's how people get killed by dogs, because the majority of people nowadays are fucking clueless.
Hi Anneka. Wonderful vid! Yeah Ghost! I have been stuck on GoT since the first teasers. The wolves and dragons completely blew me away! Then I got my daughter stuck on it. Sometimes even my teenage grandkids. One even bought Gramma a companion mag as a gift.😇🐺🐲🐾 We love critters here! Do you know the NY Wolf Conservation Center? Been watching them for years. Love their magnificent ambassador wolves tho sadly we lost Atka the oldest. Last year I think. He was 16! Three whites and one dark dark grey. Atka would have been a fine Ghost. Tho he was awfully sweet. Thankyou dear! Love your vids and stories!💕🤘🐺
i love my anglo wolf hound/northern Inuit more than any other dog I've kept, a lot of work constantly, but so rewarding. i strongly recommend a raw food diet, as conventional foods can cause gut tract problems, and be prepared for a hair carpet everywhere constantly during molting, but defo be prepared for a lot of affection from a highly intelligent dog. great video, very little good sound info out there on the species, thanks :-)
great video's really enjoy them. Just a wee story, I am a carer in Scotland and did look after a client up in the glens and she has an inuit called Kenda and is the sister of one of the dogs in game of thrones, great dog I would bring her treats and not give her them but after a while she would pin me to the wall and search me till she found them absolutly great natured dog.
We are one of three Northern Inuit breeders in the United States "Kaikala Northern Inuits". We have a male and a female that live with us as family. Both of our dogs came to us from the UK and before Game of Thrones was popular. Together we have had three litters and we make sure all our puppies go to good homes. We love our puppies and we want the best for them, so we will do background checks on all our prospective buyers, and once they do go to their new homes we will stay in touch with each of them like one big family.
Do you think they'll ever take the DNA from a real dire wolf from say, the La Brea tar sands, and recreate this magnificent breed? I've heard they're working on some other lost breeds, like some wooly mamoths (from frozen carcasses in the arctic) and some prehistoric horses (via back breeding) It'd be interesting to see how wolf-like the old dire wolves would really be. It's my understanding that they really weren't that much bigger than modern wolves, though more robustly built, physically. Your thoughts?
hi - yes they werent taller, but broader and heavier - thicker bones and that was because of the prey they hunted - they hunted ice age beasts which were not fast, so the direwolf didn't need to be fast to catch them, just strong. The grey wolf succeeded the direwolf as it was leaner and faster and the new world prey was faster and leaner off the ice
If they can do it with the Tasmanian Tiger (which it's been reported that they are 100% able to but as of yet have not to public knowledge) then I am sure that this is another possibility. The difference is should we. As much as I'm all for it this is something that really should be researched & deeply thought about.
The final season of Game of Thrones is out and so many people are #FreeGhost... Showing/directing them here they will understand why Ghost (RIP) is no longer in the show and why Nimeria and her pack won't be making any cameos. Thanks for the video and insight for these lovely creatures.
I've never seen a single episode of Game of Thrones. However, I still found this video very interesting, as I find film animals quite fascinating. Perhaps I should watch Game of Thrones some time. The wolves and dogs look wonderful.
Never realised that you could rescue wolf dogs here in the uk; did find a couple of breeders here, but instead opted to adopt/rescue a husky and a malamute - I get so many remarks about my 'Wolves'
Great video! Are you planning on doing a video of the American Alsatian, the breed that was developed in the 80's in an attempt to reconstruct what the historical dire-wolves might have looked like?
Wonderful video!! I love your dedication and amazing videos and content! Would you consider doing a video on the myth behind Dire wolfs and what they may have looked like compared to current wolfs. Perhaps other mythological wolf like creatures in other cultures. Lastly you said that wolfs and dogs were descendants of a wolf that doesn't exist anymore? Perhaps you could clarify, Id love that! Thank you!
Awsome! More people needs to understand that all dogs (though some more than others) demands hard work. So happy about the fact that you said that, because sadly, people tend to buy dogs they cant handle!
I really want a wolf-dog, will definitely choose adoption if ever, but I have yet to figure out if I will be a good mother to these beautiful creatures! Any which way, the info you provide is very, very helpful. Subscribed and telling more people about you Anneka! Bless your work and your love for these lovely creatures! 😊
We had a beautiful German shepherd wolf her name was Bear she was a very independent when she was young & would play with rocks she would bring it up the patio steps & drop it down the stairs run down bring it up & drop it down again she could do that all day long if we'd let her we'd take it off her & she'd just go find another she loved the thump thump thump as it went down the stairs, but as I said she was very independent when younger. A fellow who lived near us had a wolf cross also & his name was Duncha they got along very well which was very rare for her & apparently was rare for him too we figure that they would have been a mated pair as she never paid attention any other dog but unfortunately he was killed by a car as they were crossing the road. She became more sociable as she got older & liked getting more attention & it was fun watching her play in the snow she jumped into a snow bank once & my husband had to go & get her out it was funny to see the look on her face when her head popped up, that was about 35 years ago she was 16 yrs old when we finally had her put down, we still miss her very much I know I've been rambling a bit but it was nice to remember her Thanks
It’s ironic that Ghost the runt Of the litter has gotten so much bigger then any of his siblings but also symbolic since Jon has basically done the same thing in a way
I agree! also Ghost is a survivor. Also Arya left and went off on her own, as has her wolf - come back larger and more powerful than ever!
They did that because jon is a bastard or a runt himself...
J Double C actually he should be way bigger, remember how big grey wind got way back in season 3 when Robb used it to scare Jaime? Or how big nymeria is? Even for a ring of the litter he should be so much bigger now that he's an old direwolf!

She cute.
Miss Moxie ha she’s awesome
he's like "my time to shine" lol
Look at the length, placement amount of fur on the ears. Lady sticks out like a sore thumb as well. Still a gorgeous dog though.

Gotta love Ned, he was a caring man.
Man that scene killed me.
A man loves this show and it's wolf actors.
And Okami Den apparently. LoL!
You know it, lol
so does a girl.
ElectricAngel19.. I don't think he meant anything sexist. I'm a woman myself and love it!

Ghost red eyes and white fur
Direwolf of jon show
Red = targaryen
White fur= stark
Could it be a foreshadowing that we miss
in the books bastards carry the inverted colored banners of their houses. For stark, this is a white wolf. Though this is a cool reading of it.
Red eyes most likely represented the blood raven. Plus red was more closely associated with Lannister’s. If you read the books, it kind of delves into the similarities between ghost and blood raven
Ghosts red eyes were more representative of the wierwood trees' red eyes. Even Jon himself mentions this in one of his POV's.
Bicoz its an Albino type ?

It more feels like they are one of those companies gives no shit about animal just uses them as income products.
yes I would love to - Ghost actor is in Canada and the only other inuits I can visit would be the ones in Ireland. The animal company behind the other inuits used didnt bother to repond to me...I guess as they get nothing out of it
Just discovered your channel and subscribed, love wolves and wolfdogs- love Game Of Thrones
That was such a great episode!!!! Thank you
This deserves way more views
Have never watched Game of Thrones but loved this video!
I had a huskie/alsatian cross and I remember walking him through Green Lanes when a man asked me if he was a wolf: I said "Yes- I always like to walk my wolf through the London streets!" and he looked horrified and walked off in the opposite direction.
RIP Miley, a beautiful dog but rubbish with burglars!
I lived in downtown Vancouver BC with a huge shepherd. Ppl would cross the street to avoid us. She was a doll, as long as there was no threat to me. RIP Asia.❤️
You are shining in this video, and yeah you could blow the top of that mystery :D
This was amazing! Thank you! :D
Great video anneka! Keep up the good work!
Hi Shadow, I would like to come and film at DireWolves UK in person - do you work there?
Anneka Svenska No sadly I do not I'm just a crazy Wolf lover hope to get my degree in animal behaviour and science and go on to do the amazing things that people like you do for the wild.
Love the topic! Perfect for GOT fans and Wolf dogs fans. Really cool video!
thankyou
Beautiful.....wolves are great too.
loved the video. wondered why the dire wolves wasn't in it much. absolutely loved them in the show x
I know, its a huge disappointment that we didn't see more of them. Thanks for watching :)
Thank you for all this awesome information. We owned a Malamute ANF she was a wonderful dog. We miss her.......
Always love your videos!
This something like DIRE WOLF PROJECT, some people wants to return this animal back it needs also a video
My goodness Anikka I just came across this video of yours from 5 years ago ,how beautiful you are then and now you havent changed you are as beautiful now as then even more now
Such an awesome video.Love GOT and especially The Dire Wolves
Dire wolves are real and could you maybe make a video about them another great canine do you video on would be the deer fox awesome video
I know that direwolves were real...yes, I could make a film about them. I wasn't going to include the real ones in this film as it would distract from the Game of Thrones mythical creatures.
Hamsters am I Right manned wolfs
They WERE real. They are extinct now. Also, it's impossible to know what you're saying after that.
Hamsters am I Right Dire Wolves Do NOT exist.
they did though
I *knew* you were a Northerner and a secret Stark!
The North remembers.
Winter is here!
Odin and Thor are gorgeous I spent time with them and they are so loving
Love your vids and stories!💕🤘🐺
i love my anglo wolf hound/northern Inuit more than any other dog I've kept, a lot of work constantly, but so rewarding. i strongly recommend a raw food diet, as conventional foods can cause gut tract problems, and be prepared for a hair carpet everywhere constantly during molting, but defo be prepared for a lot of affection from a highly intelligent dog. great video, very little good sound info out there on the species, thanks :-)
good advice for everyone - thanks :)
great video's really enjoy them.
Just found your channel Anneka! Absolutely love wolves! ❤ Thanks for sharing your wonderful videos of such beautiful & fascinating creatures! 🐾❤ x
Anneka could get it!💖
Another excellent vid! Really enjoyed the level of detail & the animating lesson. Answered many questions. Thanx!
I have a northern Inuit
I heard they have not found any viable dna.
If they can do it with the Tasmanian Tiger (which it's been reported that they are 100% able to but as of yet have not to public knowledge) then I am sure that this is another possibility. The difference is should we. As much as I'm all for it this is something that really should be researched & deeply thought about.
Richard Rose you watched Jurassic Park right? LOL
I literally had goosebumps when you said, “If you haven’t got goosebumps...” ☺️❤️🐺
Thanks for your hardwork, and for the role playing..
You're welcome! :)
Thanks, it was a nice watch!
The final season of Game of Thrones is out and so many people are #FreeGhost... Showing/directing them here they will understand why Ghost (RIP) is no longer in the show and why Nimeria and her pack won't be making any cameos. Thanks for the video and insight for these lovely creatures.
Love your channel and wolves!
thankyou! x
Thank you for bringing this beautiful video to us. My soul and heart belong to the Eagles, Wolves and Dolphins. Well done.
Any episode with Anneka is a special episode :)
Great video! Are you planning on doing a video of the American Alsatian, the breed that was developed in the 80's in an attempt to reconstruct what the historical dire-wolves might have looked like?
very interesting subject - I might...
I am 13 and Me and my parents love GoT. Great video Anneka❤️. Too bad many wolf looking dogs were bought on impulse after there show was released
New subscriber, beautiful and informative video thank you
Wonderful video!! Thank you!
Hi I do have a film which talks about just that - go to: ua-cam.com/video/BhbBpcppKxA/v-deo.html
I have seen dire wolf models in North Carolina museums. They really were huge prehistoric beasts.
This is a great background info Anneka thanks 👍🏻
Awsome! More people needs to understand that all dogs (though some more than others) demands hard work. So happy about the fact that you said that, because sadly, people tend to buy dogs they cant handle!
Btw it's northern ireland which is why it's in the uk, also great video! :)
Wolves are my life I always🐺 wanted to be one and later in the future I'll buy one I am the alpha wolf here 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺I howl every time i loves wolves
