- Close ups of all the different parts to this classic late track by Genesis.
the tempos are a little inconsistant because I recorded it in segments but the parts are all there. Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone trying to learn this track : )
I'm a little late on the comments, I've just found this amazing tutorial today, THANKS!!!. I was looking for the chords when Tony plays Organ on the bottom keyboard while paying solo, (at 4:09 in your video), man... you nailed it, wow, I couldn't figure out the last 6 chords. By the way, if you have an iPad, you can get the iWavestation, all the patches Tony used are there: Light Strings (instro Strings), DigitalResWave (PolySynth like Brass), Sky Jam (Synth Solo), Pulse Seq Pad (at the end of Instrumental part) and Octave Strings (final Strings), they sound very close to original record, it has many patched from that album, like the Oooh patch used in No son of mine. The IOS iWavestation App is worth the $30.
yes, acyually Tony originally played this a half step higher but used the transpose button to bring it down live (presumably to make it easier for Phil to sing). what you see here is my actually playing it in the live key since i learned it by ear.
Excellent work Matt. Tony often wrote in b flat but it's more likely he dropped it down to A to capture the tonality of the guitar when playing the suspended 4ths rather than making it easier for Phil to sing.
@@raelscage32 I'm not sure about that, they've dropped many songs starting in 1986 by either a half or full note and it's usually always about Phil who struggles to hit the high notes live. Invisible touch was down a whole step in the 86 tour, throwing it all away was down by a half step, etc. It's gotten even worst in 2007... those songs just don't sound right when you go down by more than half a step.
Beautiful striking chordes. Wonderfully complex crafted song.
How could tony just compose it? It's like a modern Mozart isn't it?
You don't appreciate it as a composition until you see it performed
Excellent work, thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Nailed those patches
Brilliant! Thank you so much!
Glorious sounds! I have keys envy 🥰
Thank U . This video means a lot.
well considering the complexity of the parts, it requires at least a moderated amount of skill development to play them. that's why my tutorials are aimed at intermediate players. if some of this is a little ahead of your develpoment, just hang in there with it. you'll end up sharpening essential skills if you have to work at it a bit.
Love your videos, your Foreplay video was amazing. I bought a JV80 new in 1992 and still play it today. It has great a great JV Strings patch. The acoustic guitars are great as well. Wish it had a B3 but unfortunately the organs are really bad..
sooooooooooooooo good !
Que hermosa melodía.
I guess you learned it from the live version? It's down half a tone from Bb (We can't dance version) to A.
Yes I did
Awesome!
Bravo!
Thank you, please cover more GENESIS
I'm learning, can you post "how to" slowly to learn Tony Banks parts
Great! Which sound did you use for the solo?
That’s a stock Wavestation patch called Mini lead
Damn. Nailed it
Nicely done!
the low A is covered by bass pedals. Tony played it as shown in the video.
Awesome playing.
I dont play it on the same key! Banks himself used to change the tone. But in any case, this cover (tuto) is always good and usefull! Thx.
that's a built in feature of the wavestation mini lead patch. the ONLY way to get that sound is to use that patch. period!
Hi Matt, great tutorial and sounds. I have got the latest Korg Wavestate which is like a more advanced Wavestation. Would you be able to tell me what samples are used in the Wavestation Mini Lead Performance so that I can recreate it on the Wavestate? The Wavestate has the old Wavestation sample library built in. it sounds like it cross fades between two or more lead samples possibly with different octaves with a bit of delayed LFO warble. Thanks.
Thank you 😊 Matt
What are the chord progressions by number?
thank you for this
Yes, great. Hands in the way AND in the wrong key. Thats made it so much easier to learn. Top stuff!
This is the live version as stated, therefore it's correct. I could've learned the studio key and used the transpose button like Tony did didn't. These are the correct parts as heard on "The Way We Walk" played slow and without the other instruments present. I'm sorry if you don't find this helpful but I didn't have to do it all. Perhaps you could do a better one?
thank you
very helpful & insight
would you please transcribe SQUONK?
add more & looking fwd to T. Banks tutorials
one thing. when come " far away " i stay on A in left hand sorry im french my english is bad.
very good i search rhe same sound of Banks Korg wavestation ive got a Korg M 50

Absolutely beautiful. Your rythmn is off at times!
at 4.10 the lead sound .. how to made it ?
why in A it's in Bb !!
Because it's the live version
what is the first chord???
In live version it's A
Serch my cover too! Fading Lights cover by PINO LETTIERI!
I've seen it. it's terrific!
1. This isn't a tutorial, this is you playing the song. 2. Any chance of an actual tutorial in the original key? Cheers.
Maybe watch were his fingers are playing?? It aint that hard cmon. And for the original key, learn this and then transpose.
I love how your hands are in the way all the time.
Well that is a helpful comment prat
