My brother in law live just outside or Washington. We were just there for Thanksgiving. We drove through the affected areas. There is a huge sense of community. The area is being rebuilt physically and it seams emotional as well. Continue praying for the community.
Just another unfortunate reminder that everything thing you own can be ripped away and your life can change forever in an instant. Take nothing for granted.
Quite a good documentary. Well done. I hit like only because of the quality of the video...it brings back such sad memories of friends who were hit. But, also the memories of Washington coming together and truly being Washington Strong. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for saying that that was a hard time but well still here. My dad was in the tornado when i was at my grandparents house. That was our old home
I remember all this a life changing thing. I live in pekin this tornado happened in 2 minutes and 45 second I will never forget this moment R.I.P to all who died😞😔😿
Feeling the need to share this, this morning. Even with the devastation brought on by this tornado, we can be thankful that only one person in this community, and the surrounding ones, lost their life. It could have been so much worse!
Why would u be thankful that a person has lost their life? It may only be just one person too you but that is someone else's family member that is now gone forever. I understand that you are trying to be sincere but damn it that is a life you are talking about.
I understand what he is saying. Its terrible that the two people lost their lives. However, if you have seen the destruction its a miracle that more people were not killed.
Kari Kidd Kari, if you read, I said I was thankful that ONLY one person lost their life. I've since worked with people, to clear their homes, and help with services in this part of Washington, and I can sincerely say that many were so lucky to get away without injury. Please do not misquote or misunderstand my meaning, because you infer something that was not written. God bless.
@Bageleater64 8 years later standing strong!!! Washington is the best place I've ever lived... by far. It's an actual community, which is increasingly rare these days.
I drove 150 miles to participate in the cleanup of 104 & 106 Fayette Ct. It's unimaginable how destructive the weather can be if I didn't see it for myself. Thanks for a compiling a dramatic video.
I used to live in Germantown Hills (Woodford Co.) from 1984 until early 2001 (although for a couple of those years I was away at WIU). I am familar with this town. The style of houses are all too familiar to me, and remind me of my subdivision (Whispering Oaks) around 1988-1991. Had this hit about 4.5 miles to the northwest it would have been my subdivision, and my grade and middle school may have been obliterated as well.
I lived in Washington when this happened but I was also away at WIU. I had no idea just people randomly knocking on my door and asking if my family was okay.
This is honestly one of the first videos of the destruction that brought tears to my eyes. Washington is still a hometown for me even though I moved out at the age of 10, and I still have family there. Just so tragic seeing this happen.
seeing this makes me VERY thankful that all we got was some debris in our yard. I live in Pekin, and although the damage here wasn't nearly the devastation in Washington, I can still see two boards that havent been fully taken care of. One is in a tree across the street from my house and the other is sitting peacefully on a roof on Kennedy Drive as if it has belonged there the whole time.
i live in East Peoria that u could see on the map in the start we border Washington it us first , when it hit us it was a ef2 r a ef1 it changed in matter of seconds to a ef4 btw they said it was almost a ef5
omg this could of been my apartment comlpex since it hit not too far from there plus i have family that lives in washington and the crazy thing about this is that day was my sister's birthday had to call her up and tell her happy CRAZY birthday
I'm sorry but does this song have words or are they just making random mouth noise? It's annoying either way. It's terrible what happened here and everywhere else. I feel blessed every time I see one of these videos, I pray for those poor souls who've lost everything.
Over 1,000 homes were affected. Including George Town Apartments and the complex by Central District #51. I will say that CNN and NBC News made it look like it was the entire town, which it was not. Lets say each of the 1,000 homes had 4 people living in them + the 200 people that lived at George town your right at about 4,000-5,000 people. Now that is over 15% of the population.
MrCheeseman60 I think you are over on estimate. city is 15,000 by 2010 census. Most in Washington Estates were older retired people, George Town was mixed bag single, retired and young couples. Average would be closer to 2.5 per house hold.
Omg, this happened. Thos was in Illinois. Chicago is in Illinois. I live in Indiana right next to Chicago. So, theoretically this happened in my backyard.

this was terrible of what happened

I like the song, I have studied this tornado, I was in Chicago in May 2013, but I live in Louisiana
truly heart-wrenching, what a way to start off the holiday season. Be grateful for what you have because it can change all in a matter of seconds. :(
Im so sorry your families had to go through that. I am watching Marc Well's video its making me cry.
Thank you for saying that that was a hard time but well still here. My dad was in the tornado when i was at my grandparents house. That was our old home

It clipped Metamora where I live (east of Washington)
This is almost too reminiscent of Joplin and Moore. Even though it's much smaller, still too similar.
Yes...Moore, Joplin, Tuscaloosa, Hattiesburg, Andover, Plainfield, and the list goes on.

3:33 is 404 Gillman Ave.
Actually it was just a small part of the city that was hit by the tornado.
True. But the part of the city that got his was the most populated (George Town Common Apartments, Washington Estates, Devon-shire, etc..).
MrCheeseman60 *Hit
Not really maybe 15% of city population... I live just across the gully from George Town.
