I think Alan had one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen on him in this clip! What a laugh, too!
I think Alan Alda Jr was a really nice guy I just never cared for his character on MASH although I am appreciating it a little more every year as I get older. Alan really got into this game ad was a good player.
@@ParadiseVids it is I thought he was hot..,.did you know Robert Alda and his second wife Flora, Alan's stepmother wrote a cookbook 99 Ways to Cook Pasta??????..also Robert Alda was on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives in the late '70s-early ' 80s?????!!!..also on the show in the early ' 70s was Mike Farrell before he was on M*A*S*H* as Captain B J Hunnicutt..I hope you will reply to this
I just love Alan's voice! I could listen to it all day.
It's so weird seeing Alan in citizen clothes after watching M*A*S*H for 7 straight days.
@@KandiKlover You mean 'Hawkeye', right? Lol. Hmm, maybe I should read The Last of the Mohecans......
Teal'c 4107 met Hawkeye but he his nickname was after Hawkeye from The Last of the Mohicans. His full name was Benjamin Franklin Pierce after a President and an inventor/Founding Father of the constitution
I just saw the final episode the other day and cried my eyes out. Seeing both Alda’s on a show with silly voices made me laugh just as hard as I cried
@2:40..."That's no way to talk to your father"...That is funny 😄😁😆.
He was one of my fav mash guest stars. Clearly the Aldas were close. Touching!
There was one episode where both Alan's father AND brother were guests. And they played off each other very well, as if they had be doing this kind of schtick all their lives. (which they probably had. :) )
@@marksebree5218 That episode is called "Lend A Hand" where Borterilli and Hawkeye go up to an aid station together where the surgeon had been killed.
Antony Alda played a medic who pretty much put his father and older brother in their place while the two of them were at each other's throats, squabbling over every little thing.
I saw Robert Alda in this tour of Follies in Houston and it was in early 70s. What a talented and gracious and genuinely nice guy, and he visited with me for 20 minutes after the show and introduced me to the cast. What a memory!
Two of the greatest men ever. I love them both and this was too funny. I love that Alan couldn't recognize his dad's voice, and I love that Robert thinks his son is as funny as the rest of us. "Do you do any comedy? I mean besides what you're doing right now?" LOLOLOLOLOL.
I can see where Alan got his 'contagiuos' laugh. Like father, like son. 😊
@gracealexandre338 you can also see where Alan got his good looks from huh????!!!!..Robert Alda was handsome wasn't he????!!!!!!!!!!!!!....I was surprised to see Robert with a mustache..I hope you will reply to this6
@@sherryhannah498 Honestly, Alan is a lot more handsome than his father. Even today, his eyes and constant smile help to make that handsome look. You don't need hair to look handsome.
I'll bet that Alan was happy to see dear old dad there!
The disguised voice was great because dad's voice was so very distinctive. So great. Nice plug for California wines 🍷.
Alan Alda just tweeted this video today.
What a great father to have,Alan. You are a fortunate man.
Robert Alda played George Gershwin in the movie "Rhapsody in Blue" and was the original Sky Masterson in the musical "Guys and Dolls."
My favorite MASH episode was when Robert, Alan and Anthony Alda all appeared together.
Not only that, but Robert was one of the few guests stars who had the privilege of working with _both_ MASH casts; first, with Trapper, Frank and Henry then with BJ, Charles and Colonel Potter.
I just saw a 1945 movie in which he portrayed George Gershwin, he was really good looking back then.
Their relationship reminds me of my own one with my Mum. It’s truly special.🥰
Filmed 1973, as far as I can tell. Allan Alda was 37 and his father was 59.
.
Pretty fun........I could have sworn that Alan started picking up on who it was earlier, when he started playfully going back and forth with his dad, but apparently not....
.
Robert Alda was the original "Sky Masterson" on Broadway's " Guys and Dolls " .
What a fun post to watch. Thanks for posting.
Okay, this was *ADORABLE*
Alan And His Father Look So Much Alike!
Kirsten Vaccaro especially now that Alan is older, look at when they acted together in M*A*S*H. Alan looks like a clone of his father today with white hair.
Robert was on 2 episode of M*A*S*H, his other son Anthony was also on the second episode. He was the medic when Robert and Alan had hurt their arm and had to work together. That one was around 1980 I believe.
Just watched Alan on a TV movie called "Isn't it Shocking". Very good murder mystery from the early 70s.
Wish I could get it on DVD. It's on UA-cam in 8 sections.
What I love about this clip is the obvious: Alan does not recognize his father, even blindfolded, he cannot make out who he is.
It's refreshing to know a parent and child in the entertainment industry had a good relationship. Often times actors come from dysfunctional families
I read Alan Alda's Autobiographical book, "Never have your dog stuffed, and other things I've learned" One of my favorite books; I think you would enjoy it. Starting right in first sentence of the first chapter, he begins describing his tumultuous family life. He was born in 1936, into a show-biz family. His dad, a star in his own right, was playing in burleque back then and often-times on the road. He always took his family with him. Alan recalls his experiences growing up back-stage. Alan actually started to learn his trade at a very young age, and he eagerly absorbed it. His father and other fellow performers took him under their wing and promoted him, even featuring him onstage in comedy bits. Alan started learning and memorizing, rehearsing and performing burlesque/vaudeville comedy routines starting at age 2, and his confidence, delivery and timing came very naturally to him by the time he was 3 he had already begun challenging his dad and vying for the spotlight. It is a great auto-biography, very entertaining, exciting, yet heartwarming, like MASH, and of course filled with his amusing and often sarcastic humor.
I am just listening to Alan talking on Gilbert Gottfreids podcast! Alan is talking about his dad. Give it a listen if you haven't ! :-)
You know when you have a good familial relationship when you can pull stuff like this on your son/father and both have a good laugh out of it.
If you think that's bad. Arlene was fooled, not once, not twice, but 3 times by her own son on WML!
It's nice when famous children including siblings get to act with their famous parents and vice versa especially when they are close like the Aldas
There was an episode in MASH, where Robert Alda met onscreen with both of his sons.
Robert Alda. In this clip - "bon vivant" came to mind. Robert Alda must have led a good life...
I remember when his dad starred on MASH way back in the day when comedy was special.
I think of Larry Blyden primarily from that Great Twilight Zone Episode- **SPOILER ALERT*** Where he plays a crook and Robber who dies while escaping from a Robbery. He wakes up in what he thinks is Heaven when all his Wishes are Granted. Yet, even though he gets everything he wants in this world, he is still unhappy and tell his Guardian Ange; played by Sebastian Cabot (The Fat Butler of Family Affair) that he wish maybe he wasn't in Heaven, but could go to the other Place. Then in the chilling conclusion- He is told that he is The "Other Place."
Wish I had a dad like Alan's.
He was on MASH as an alcoholic surgeon. That aside, Meredith Macrae was one of the most beautiful women who ever lived.
Not so much alcoholic as suffering from shell shock/battle fatigue and needing a drink to get past it.
I always felt Robert Alda should have become a bigger star. An underrated talent. His son became a bigger star than he.
Alan is a brilliant actor
Robert Alda was excellent in the film "Immitation of Life" while Alan Alda was excellent in the film "Same Time Next Year".
This was a pleasure....until the ad for California wine!
It's more perhaps French California wine today in terms of winery ownership.
Alan's dad was in two episodes of MASH.
"The Consultant" from Season 3 and "Lend A Hand" from Season 8, both times as Dr. Borelli. Brother Antony was in the latter. Robert became one of the few guest actors on "M*A*S*H" to work with Stevenson, Rogers and Linville, and Morgan, Farrell and Ogden Stiers playing the same character.
Hawkeye Pierce in the house!!!
To think that Alan today could be his father's father today (in terms of age). His father was 59 here and Alan is 78 today.
LOL!
Robert Alda genuinely sounds very much like Topo Gigjo, the mouse, but if he came out using his real voice, Alan would have worked it out straight away.
Alan: Did you do Comedy? I mean aside from what you're doing now.
Robert: (Trying not to burst out in laughter) This is Comedy???
Host: Are you guys gonna keep this up all day? I mean we're out of town... I mean time! (Everyone laughing) And besides Alan, THAT'S NO WAY TO TALK TO YOUR FATHER!
Robert: HA HA HA.
Alan: YOU DIRTY... (Throws the blindfold/mask)
Firt i’ve ever seen Dr. Carelli with a mustache.
At that time nobody was aware of Australian wines .
Ahh, they just don't make TV like that anymore. :)
The way this segment started there had to be a game of Who's Who beforehand
How cute! A Famous Father and Son on What's My Line?
By the way, Alan Alda was one of Cigna's TV Doctors, in which he reprised his role of Dr. Hawkeye Pierce next to his co-star, Neil Patrick Harris, who reprised his role as Doogie Howser, MD.
I am sorry that he is fighting Parkensons, the same illness that killed Muhammad Ali.
And, speaking of Muhammad Ali, Warner Brothers Animation and DC Comics is going to bring a story to DVD and 📺 TV.
If there is one DC Animated Movie you see in 2020, Don't miss Superman Vs Muhammad Ali, starring Tim Daly as the voice of Superman and reprising his role of Muhammad Ali in this movie, Will "The Fresh Prince" Smith.
Stay tuned for updates.
DANGER WOMAN
"This is comedy?"
I think this is 06-07-1973
RIP Robert alda
I guess he finally escaped Crab Apple Cove in Maine.
What year?
Was this a 1972 episode?
Robert starred in 2 episodes of M*A*S*H.
what year was this filmed?
Regarding Bob's comment on California wines, watch Bottle Shock and note how relevant this is...
👍🙂‼️
This is about the time when Alan Alda started his long stint on M*A*S*H. Syndicated WML discovered him a year or so before when he was still a little owlish.
@@dallasbrubaker6054 Turns his head while speaking. In his younger acting days he did this alot. As MASH got older, he stopped, probably from watching himself in the dailies over the years.
2 minutes was not that long
DAMN! Everyone on here has passed
@@tomcloss9764 He's alive, and kicking! Battling Parkinson's, but doing well. He's got a great podcast called Clear and Vivid.
Don't you guys think it is a pretty asshole move from the host to announce the commercials and then close the show off? I know they are payed by the second of adverisement, but they done that routine more than once, as I saw in this you tube videos.
First of all, so-called "Robert Alda" was not his real name. I think it's a disgrace and shows complete disrespect of one's heritage to change their birth name, unless when a woman gets married. If a woman gets married and DOESN'T change her last name, that shows disrespect to her husband. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the name "Alfonso Giuseppe Giovanni Roberto D'Abruzzo". Most likely the change was made as a result of from a greedy Business Manager and or Studio, in anticipation of greater recognition and subsequent monetary gain?!
Over half the actors and actresses have changed their names, so your comment is a total lie.
@rossmartenak5517 Are you high on angel dust? No actor/actress are lies. You better never comment again about actors/actresses.
"Besides, Alan, that's no way to talk to your father!" I *LOVE* it!!
I love that part too! So funny!!!
