He was more symmetrical and conditioned in 99 but 03 Ron had too much of a freak factor. But for sure 98,99 were better versions of Big Ron.

I saw Dorian guest pose in Tampa in 97. I was a senior in HS. He walked out and posed for 30 seconds and the crowd was still dead silent except for the brief gasp heard when he first came out. So he turns and pretends to walk off and the place just erupted.

Dorian in 93 was 257lbs surpassing haneys record, not to mention the fact that he brought insane conditioning compared to haney! Lee haney at his first olympia was 243lbs and never went over 248lbs, 5lbs of weight over the course of his 8 year reign!

guys like nasser, wheeler went they turned to the side didnt have that thickness, they were shallow.I did notice it during posedowns, but very few pay attention to the quarter turns, especially the side poses.There very few photos of these side relaxed also.

he was better in 93. No torn bicep so automatic better symmetry plus better conditioning and proportion. Only way he was better in 96 is he brought his back and chest up but mostly the lighting in that show is what made him look so amazing
True. The lighting made everyone look insane and gave deep shadow lines between muscle gaps. Still prefer Kevin levrone in that same show over dorian.

1996 hands down Dorians best shape of all time, even with the torn bicep. Size, power, thickness, fullness, conditioning, striations, vascularity,....everything was there in spades except for the torn bicep. Still was light years ahead of everyone.

Dorians worst place in an IFBB competition was second. Ronnie’s was dead last. Dorians worst place at Mr. Olympia was 2nd (1991). Ronnie’s was dead last (1992).
Dorians average placing at Mr. Olympia is 1.1. Ronnie’s is... 4.7. Hell, Lee Labrada’s average Mr. Olympia placing is 3.1. Lee even beat Ronnie in 1992 (Lee placed 4th in 93, Ronnie didn’t even qualify...).
Dorian has the best average competitive placing as an IFBB athlete by far of any modern pro.

I believe if they stood on stage together at their peak, Dorian would out focus Ronnie first. Even without the posing included. His laser focus beat everyone, including Flex Levrone Ray etc. Dorian not as massive as Coleman, but better conditioning.

I saw Ronnie in his prime and it was SO freakish. Problem was his gut was just not up to par. Dorian in his prime had no weaknesses and even when his gut got out of control and distended because of insulin and HGH it was still better than Ronnie at his best. :/ . I was @ the Olympia in 2003. 1993 and 1995 Dorian was so heard to beat, peeled, conditioned, definition, cuts, granite... That dude was ridiculous.
I feel like people romanticize Ronnie's "Lightweight baby!". "Nothing but a peanut!"....but we are talking about bodybuilding, not powerlifting.

Some people get the wrong idea that the bigger you are the better. If that was the case then paul dillet should have been champion multiple times. Its about the total package, and that goes to dorian yates. The best BB package ever would have to be either yates 93 olympia or 96 german gp. No disrespect to the great ronnie coleman, he was a great as well. But aesthetically the only vwrsion of ronnie that looked brilliant was 98. He got way overblown for me in the end

Dorian's back is awesome but regardless of the "pictures don't do him justice" argument the eye ball test says there was something funky about his legs... Dorian had much tougher competition - best versions of Flex, Levrone, Shawn Ray, Nasser. Who was against Ronnie - Jay Cutler with his blocky waist and dumb hairstyle who later became the least pleasing to the eye Mr. Olympia. As Aceto said Ronnie fucked up the sport with his bullshit routines plus he made the big ass, bubble gut and small calves a standart.

the rear lat spread is dorians money shot, he actually opens up his back.Ronnie just hunches over alot, which makes his erectors and traps pop , and tbh his lat spread is too dominated by his overszeid gutes and hams, and the focus is really on the width of the lats in this pose, and dorians lats are wider, thciker and drier

Very niice show. Good breakdown of the facts. Its very diffcult to compare these guys, which are both freaks. They were kings at their time for a reason, this factor makes it much more diffcult. From back the back they both so strong, you cant really decide which of em.
But from 98' to 02 there were some guys in die Top 5 which were very dangerous for Ronnie. It was the same like Dorian. They dominated the show not in a way, that it was an oneman show. on their dominating performances there were some guys with also outstanding performances. But Dorian and Ronnie were Freaks in special way of sense, it wasnt only on stage, they were freaks in gym and life, thats what makes their statue bigger and beyond.
The biggest difficulty in judging the two is DY's pics and lighting look like they where took by a preloaded snap cam for $5. DY's conditioning is much easier to see in the better black and white pics.
Close call but I'll take Dorian all day and he already beat Coleman on stage
Coleman was not in his prime and Dorian was closely beaten by Nasser while Ronnie dominated Nasser.

Dorian and Ronnie in their prime is a close call. By the 90s criterias Dorian would most likely win since most muscular was not a mandatory shot and conditioing was very important. But if they competed in the mid 2000s Ronnie would win, size was more important than conditioning and most muscular was a mandatory shot.

Dorian wasnt at his best in 97, we aaaall agree, but because of the tore biceps he wasnt able to train properly during the last 3 weeks before the olympia, and still had a better back than the whole competition and won more poses, also, if you can notice, his posing wasnt affected even if he was in pain during the whole contests, Dorian said, so Dorian is a true warrior, i love Nasser but his package was in the front and nothing on the back, besides Dorians structure is better, longer legs and thickness, made him win also the relaxed poses, sides and back, not the front relaxed. How can you say in 2000 mass was mote important? Thats the "standard" that was on 2000 perhaps, remember how Gustavo Badell beat ronnie in 2005 on posing round? If im not mistaken, Ronnie was so ungry, and Gustavo wasnt even as big as ronnie but had more quality for sure. If Dorian would show up in ANY contest after he retired, he would win, hands down. Dont confuse the fact that Dorian doesnt look good in pictures, many pros have stated that, but in real life he was unbelieveable, same height as ronnie and Dorian prime is even wider and bigger than ronnie in 98, and if you want to compare ronnie 2003, maybe he got bigger but his condition was to laugh if you comparr with Dorians prime, after all Dorian holds the best back and calves in history, also he holds the best FLS and even best side triceps, remember also he would beat ronnie in the relaxed poses maybe 3 out of the 4 and easily in the posing round.

Posing Round:
Handsdown Dorian. Ronnie just did random shit and wasn't a good poser. Kevin Levrone always beat Ronnie in the posing round and Dorian always defeated Kevin in it.
Symmetry Round:
Probalby Dorian, Nasser and Flex beat Ronnie in the Symmetry at the 1998 Olympia and Dorian beat them in it. Not so sure about 2003 Ronne though.
Muscularity Round:
-1990 standards: 4-3 Dorian. Similar to how this video broke it down.
-2000s standards: 5-3 Ronnie. Judges cared more about freakiness and size than conditioning, I believe Ronnie would win the rear lat spread for that matter. Even Ab/Thigs is debatable, Ronnie beat Dexter in it at the 2004 in the challenger round remember. But to avoid controversy let's just give Dorian that one.
Posedown:
Hard to tell. Could go either way. Flex said however that Dorian was more intimidating than Ronnie in that aspect. Personally, I do not see anyone beating 2003 Ronnie Coleman in the posedown.
I do believe though that Dorian would come in slightly less conditioned and bigger. If he knew he had to compete against that massive version of Ronnie Coleman.
Also, I don't agree with you that Dorian has the best side tricep ever. That has to go to Phil Heath in his prime!
Well if we are going pose for pose i think Ronnie def takes it but wow the line up Dorian had to face was real tough. From 2001-2005 the only real challenge for Ronnie was jay. However, Dorian had to face up against many top guys like Levrone, wheeler, ray and Nasser. every single year. But when it comes to the better body id give it to Coleman.

Ronnie’s glutes and back were absolutely monstrous but he wasn’t well balanced. Midsection wasn’t all that tight (even from the beginning) and his quad size overpowered his calfs. Dorian Yates was fucking put together from head to toe. Full chest, wide lats, well developed glutes and hams, and his calf development (one of the best) matched his quads. Not the most detailed bodybuilder but his stature and conditioning put together the almost perfect shape.

In direct comparison Coleman was way bigger than Yates with only 2 cm difference in height (1,80 vs 1,78). Coleman Arm 61cm, Leg 87cm, Chest 156cm Yates Arm 51cm, Leg 79cm, Chest 142cm so next to each other Coleman would dwarf Yates...thats a fact.

If you watch the two guys in their work out videos, OMG!!! Ronny looks absolutely INSANE. Ronnie's small joints with huge muscle bellies was just unbelievable. I love Dorian, but just look at those videos of Ronnie working out at Metroflex. He looks like those crazy myostatin deficient "bulls". No one has ever looked like that, and I doubt anyone ever will. No disrespect to Dorian.
