Hell yeah to "light whatever else you want" that definitely enhances the experience! I absolutely LOVE this record label! Yawning Man is a band I really dig within this genre, nobody ever mentions them. Instrumental mellow desert vibes 🤙
Really happy you're reviewing releases from El Paraiso. I've recently ordered / already scooped up about a dozen releases in recent months consisting of Causa Sui, London Odense Ensemble, and Edena Gardens. Although I only started buying the basic legacy bands (and love them) in the prog and fusion genre just in the past few years, I am ready to move on to newer bands making great records so these reviews are most welcome as a supplement to those legacy bands.
I live in the New Mexico desert. Light winds, high winds, tumbleweed tumbling by. I never heard of desert rock. Now I have. 😂 I will check out this band.
New to me too. Just what we need, another new music sub-genre...😒Wiki says: - Palm Desert Scene, a Californian music culture that has been described as "desert rock" - North African and Saharan desert blues or desert rock music Also saw this: "Desert Rock is a sub-genre of Stoner Rock. Much of today's classic Stoner Rock tracks were born in the desert-Palm Desert, California, to be exact. This is the same region that birthed groups and artists like Kyuss, Mondo Generator, Queens of the Stone Age, Brant Bjork and the Bros, Unida, Hermano, and more"...Of those bands I have some stuff by QOTSA...
@@weirddebbiem1619 Same here, have 'heard of' some of those other bands but not in connection to "Desert Rock". Don't like Kyuss which is why I don't own anything by them - a lot of their stuff (what I've heard) sounds 'droney' & not crazy about the vocals
Hey Pete. I actually checked this album out after watching your review. I really dig this album. It's really chill and laid back. I'll definitely be checking out their other stuff. Thanks for turning me on to this cool musical journey.
Enjoyed your description of 'desert' rock and the way it matches what I heard on the few excerpts listened to this morning. Like the recent Causa Sui album of a few weeks back, this sounds like good music for listening while on the back porch enjoying the day down here in Florida. Will be giving this a more thorough listen when next on the porch and looking forward hearing the entire album. Once again, Pete, weekly new product episodes like this are an invaluable source new listening for many. Thanks for this episode and your continued commitment to these weekly shows.
Thanks for this recommendation, Pete! I'm a big fan of the more "laid-back" side of psychedelic rock (and I love the hard-rocking side too, definitely!), and in recent years, I have been happily discovering the return of that late '60s/early '70s style in newer bands. This is the first time that I've heard of Edena Gardens, or El Paraiso Records, but I'm listening to EG on UA-cam now, and I will be buying this album on CD!
Kyuss is Desert Rock. So, this band is instrumental? About the package, that's sometimes why i don't bother with physical media. To me, if there's nothing in the booklet, might as well just not buy the cd
The whole album's on YT, sounds pretty good. Not too upbeat/not too heavy as Pete says. Including a live record this seems to be their 3rd album - I don't have any of them. Gave it a listen (or two) - saying it "floats along" is about right. Atmospherics abound, I have kind of a hard time picking a "best" track as everything's sort of at the same level (if forced to it might be "Montezuma" just because it features a nice/extended guitar solo). "Crescent Helix" appeals to me the least. Not as 'hypnotic' as some other bands that I've put into my 'HypnoRock' playlist but this would probably also land there. So overall: "there's nothing not to like about it" - there you go. Album of the year? No. Pretty good? Yes. Fans of bands like Causa Sui (naturally), Hidria Spacefolk, Jalayan, Ozric Tentacles, Sleeping Pandora, Vespero might well like this too. Again not as hypnotic as most of that music with less of a bubbling rhythm section, and fewer "heavy" (relatively speaking) moments
Wow , Pete thank you for this 💎

Not heard of Kyuss? We used to call them Desert/Stoner over here in England when they were still around.
@@wolf1977 Thank you for the information on Desert Rock. I agree about all these sub genres. Too damn many of them.
@@0KT0BER I have heard of Kyuss, but I am not familiar with their music.

I will check out. 4️⃣.0️⃣. Sounds good. Thank you PETE. More homework 👍💯

Another interesting one from El Paraiso records. I wish they had more upbeat songs, but I'll give it another try when I'm in the mood.
First time hearing of the band and label, sounds well worth checking out. Thanks for the heads up.
Luv it so soothing liki pat metheny 😊

Is on my List for next Month. Like the most from that Label.
Hey Pete. Here's a subject you can tackle...
Your top 10 (or 20) t-shirts you own.
Go watch my T-shirt series in the Pete's Favorites playlist that I did a few years ago...I showed 'em all off and discussed some of my favorites.
Desert rock is like Kyuss, comes from Mojave parties using generators in pickup trucks to power the amps...
Everybody sends you this disc and amazon has it for $18 plus $4 shipping plus $2 tax for a total of $26 is this too much ?

I like the music of his new album, but the whole thing, especially the voice is a bit too pleasing for my taste
Um, there are no vocals on this album...
@@seaoftranquilityprog - it's a bot comment.
Sorry it was $24

And Fans of Papir will like it since it's the same guitarist.
