Introduced Conflict Corner in gym and my classroom and it works! Even some of my most challenging pupils are able to work through their disagreements much more calmly. The best bit is that they’re not relying on me to solve their problems. 😀
Ben, I really like this idea! I teach K-5 elementary PE and would like to incorporate this for upcoming year. From your experience, would it be too hard to try and utilize this with K-2 or have you been able to use it with them to? Thanks, I appreciate it :D
I think so. I use it with my 1st - 2nd graders. I don't use it with Kindergarten, but I think you could - especially if you wait a few months to introduce it so they have some time to get used to being in school and understanding the routine
Yep! Still use it all the time, my kids know to go there first with any issues and it's still a great tool to teach conflict resolution and also help students decide which conflicts are really worth trying to solve and which are worth not worrying about
This sounds great! It seems like something I would like to introduce at my school. I have two questions. 1) Could you see the Conflict Corner making conflicts worse like kids start to fight? 2) Do kids ever abuse the corner like making up a conflict just to go over there and talk? How would you prevent that from happening?
1.) I'm not going to say that couldn't happen, but it's never happened in my class (in the last 10 years of using Conflict Corner) - you'd have to decide what's best in your situation since you know your kids and class culture. 2.) Again - not going to say it couldn't happen - but it hasn't happened in my experience. I think the pre-requisite for this would be that your lessons/activities have to be engaging and fun so that all students want to participate - if that's the case nobody wants to try to find an excuse to not participate. *Obviously every kid is different and there's no perfect solution for everyone, but I've found Conflict Corner to be an incredibly valuable tool for my sanity and for my students to learn to solve their own problems and take responsibility for themselves.
thanks for all the videos, tools, shares, etc. I am a new teacher to P.E. k-6th, couple of questions....does your admin like the poster? Also, how do you go about not being so lonely when you are at a school. I am going to be new, and don't know any of the teachers, and I really do not want to isolate myself from everyone...I am also not good at stepping out of my comfort zone and trying to be the first one to initiate communication....help? ideas? thanks!
Awesome! Yes, my admin is a fan of the poster. I am active on social media and attend conferences regularly so I feel like I have a great network of teachers around me I could ask for advice and feedback
Child: will you go to the conflict corner with me? Other child: no Child: TEACHER?! Teacher: oh no here we go again... By the way, this comment is not for hating. I just want to be funny. This is a great idea for kids but I just wonder what would happen if a child refuses to come to the conflict corner?
Great question - you can decide what you want to do for your classroom, but for us it's automatic time out if a student refuses to resolve a conflict because it goes against our values as a program (working together, cooperation, teamwork etc) Because of this expectation, kids don't refuse to go to the conflict corner :-)

Awesome to hear it went well!
Wow today was my first week and I really need to try this.. I’ve heard more conflicts than I know what to do with. Thanks Ben!
How to solve problems among students step by step, love it!

My first graders can’t really read nor some of my second graders
I see this video is from 2015. Are you still using this in your gym with students or have you adjusted anything since starting? Thanks!

+TheFalconsNest you can follow the link in the description for a high quality download of the poster
the link doesn't seem to work for a high quality poster.
Did you make the Poster or find it online?
I made it - it's available for free at the link in the description
