Synopsis: Vivah is all about the journey of a couple, deeply in love with each other, from engagement to wedding. Poonam (Amrita Rao) a simple homely girl, gets engaged to a rich business man's son Prem (Shahid Kapoor). Poonam being an orphan is taken care by her uncle and aunt, Krishna Kant (Alok Nath) and Rama (Seema Biswas). Since Poonam is beautiful and fair than her own daughter Rajni (Amrita Prakashan), Rama is always jealous of Poonam and dislikes her. But Poonam's only wish was to get love from her aunt whom she treated more than a mother. Prem who was initially not very interested in getting married, as he wanted to concentrate on his career, agrees for the marriage after meeting Poonam and falls in love with her from the first meeting itself. Their marriage date is fixed after six months and in this duration continous meetings of both the families give a chance to both, Prem and Poonam, to have a blissful time. During this period itself, Prem gets an opportunity to focus on his career and go to foreign country for the same. Both the families gets busy in marrige preparations, once Prem returns to India. As the celebrations are going on, Rama gets angry on Krishna Kant as he is spending lavishly on Poonam's wedding, and fears that no money will be left for their own daughter Rajni's marriage. Because of which, she acts coldly with Poonam and stays away from the wedding preparations. One night before the wedding, fire breaks out in their house. Poonam manages to escape but soon realises that her beloved sister Rajni is still in the burning house. Poonam risks her life to save Rajni and gets badly burnt. At this turn of life, Prem still wants to marry her and expresses his love for her. In the hospital itself the initial rituals of the marriage are performed and both the families are happy. Rama also understands Poonam's affection for her and takes her home, just to perform Prem and Poonam's wedding traditionally.

"ghar chal beti, woh ghar jo tera maika hai, jahan teri maa rehti hai" is such a heart touching line. Makes me tear up every single time. The parental home is special to every girl. The dialogue writer has captured the spirit very well. I don't know why this movie was considered retrograde in the reviews it had received back then.

This is the movie that I always forgot that is a movie.
It was an arranged marriage. The guy at first doesn't have any interest at getting married but when he saw the girl's picture, he changed his mind. He was smitten by her beauty and when their family first met, his feelings for her got stronger and stronger as time goes by. But there was a fire accident right before their marriage which caused the girl's body to burn. She feels unpretty and unacceptable so she doesn't the boy the marry her. But the boy loves her now beyond her physical appearance.
But the one drawback is that the boy never knew that how toxic environment Poonam was raised in as her aunt never loved her and he always thought she is a nice lady.
This song took act on another level......so smoothly blended with the scene nd made scene so emotional and heart soothing ❤️❤️
