• BMW 530e PHEV Electric...
The latest 530e is a great way to waft along in comfort through Europe's increasing number of EV only zones. Then, once you are free of these zones, you can experience its 288 horsepower and precise handling. It's a bit too big and heavy to be a corner carver, but it is still remarkably good on a winding road. Remember to charge it, and you will manage to get close to BMW's claimed 2 l/100km efficiency figure.

Nice one mate, but as a suggestion, would be nice to see all the numbers you're talking about on the screen like small pop-ups with details.
Next time 😅
Excellent video man! Looking forward to seeing more uploads.
Cheers, thanks! I have four videos in the works - hope I have time to finish and upload them soon.
I already own 530e for about 2 months and already done 3500 km and my consumption is 3.5L/100km i recently drive more on petrol than electric, just my trips are longer, so far i never get lower than 43km on full EV with A/C on non stop and my top was 68.9km without A/C and all rest ON i have not tested it in cold yet, since its still summer and all but i dont think it will go down that much.
Never lower than 43 km? You must have a very light right foot and excellent planning skills. I couldn't get it above 32 km, although I drove it in winter with temperatures around 0 celsius.
@@OneTireFire its what i say, i drive it now at summer time, i dont know about winter, o tho i should not be that much lower
@@unreal1657 Maybe come back here and tell us what your winter electric range results are in a few months' time?
@@OneTireFire Sure thing ill tell what is my exp on winter
@@unreal6959 do you have an update to share regarding this?
Maybe it is different in Europe, but here in the US the 2021 530e gets the B46 engine from the 330i, just detuned to lower HP. The 330e gets the XB1 engine.
Hey, Andy,
To my knowledge, the 530e and 330e all have the same B48 engine, as do the 530i and 330i. However, in the case of the plug-in models, it makes exactly as much power as it does in the less powerful 520i and 320i - that's why I said the 530e has basically the same four-cylinder that you get in any 20i BMW, but with the added performance of the electric motor. I did a bit of research before doing the video - can you point me to where you got your information from; I'd hate to be passing along incorrect information.
Thank you!
@@OneTireFire Here is where I got my information: www.bimmerpost.com/goodiesforyou/priceguides/2021_Pricing_Guides.pdf
The code for the 330e engine is "XB1", while for the 530e it shows the B46 (same as 330i). So the question is what do they mean by XB1. This thread suggests that some people get the higher spec B46, but others (more recently) get the one from the 320i - g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1690599&highlight=330e+engine&page=2
@@asglovere thanks, I’ll check it out and I’ll get back to you
@@OneTireFire Yeah, if you have the ability to verify from BMW, that would be great - maybe the coding is even different and the people who think they're getting the 320i are wrong!
@@asglovere I found this on bimmerworld. one of the few mentions of XB1 anywhere online, to be frank:
‘ PHEV use an additional powertrain code for the engine + electric motor. We haven't seen a key that explains the code but it will start with "XB1". For example, the G20 330e has a "XB1142O1" powertrain consisting of the B46B20O1 gas engine and GC1P25M0 electric battery/motor. So far, all PHEV vehicles use a mostly-standard B-series gasoline engine with an additional electric battery and motor so the "XB1" code is largely irrelevant when shopping for engine parts. ‘
In other words, XB1 is the code for the entire electrified powertrain, not just the engine.
Hope this helps!
Just bought today
Great choice for a PHEV.
not bad review...I've been driving the 530e for 3 years now...in order to make the most of the battery you must learn how to drive it...once you know how to , you'll get further 4-5 miles on battery...learn when to use sport and when to use electric and you'll be very happy with it...my average mpg / year is 4.4l/100km and i am not a shy driver...:)
Thanks, this is valuable information!
How frequently do you charge it?
@@OneTireFire every night, from 01:00-07:00 (economy 7)
@@wilycoyote2869 this explains it. you get this good mileage, even though you drive it in a not shy way, because you use it properly.
I stress this in all my PHEV videos: if you can’t commit to charging it regularly, then a PHEV isn’t for you...
97% agree 🙌
Which 3% don’t you agree with? 😅
@@OneTireFire the the backlight still need work, I think the seven serious backlight look much better then this.
@@OneTireFire I mean tail light😂
@@ez1803 the 7 has that cool light bar; i see what you mean
nice video! thanks a lot
Thanks for watching!
@@OneTireFire I was tempted by the hybrid but suspected that it was super heavy. I now know that it's too heavy for me and I will go for the 530i :) thanks!
@@micr75i A better choice especially if a) your city doesn’t restrict access for ICE vehicles and b) you don’t want to constantly charge it.
It might need only ~2.7l of petrol per 100km, but on top of that it uses ~30kwh of electricity, so what you save on gas you pay in electricity. Don't really see the point unless you either don't have to pay one of the sources.
Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree and I don't usually recommend PHEVs for several reasons including this one. Thanks for sharing!
Is that ash trunkwood? Wdyt?
Some kind of open pore wood, yes. It feels nice to the touch and gives the cabin a unique texture.
