This squirrel cage lets you lean into high-volume, low static pressure airflow to keep your temperatures steady. See a quick demo.
The forward curved fan wheel, often called a squirrel cage, is frequently specified for temperature control in furnace and oven applications with high-volume airflow and low static pressure. Senior Application Engineer Chet White demonstrates the industrial centrifugal fan and how it operates in this one-minute video.

This is a forward curved wheel, also known as a squirrel cage. So the purpose for this wheel is to move high volumes of air at very little static pressures. These blades are small, and as you can see, there’s a lot of them. So, this would rotate in a counter-clockwise rotation as you’re looking at it right now. And so these blades are also forward-curved in the way that they’re handling the gasses coming through. So it hits this little blade and it slings out the outside of it right here. The most common application for these types of wheels is applications like an oven or a furnace - a large space that you’re trying to keep air generally the same temperature within that space. This moves a lot of air, but it has very little static pressure to travel through.
