At the RWC QF, it was obvious Johnny Sexton was spent after 65 minutes - but he was kept on for the last 15 minutes and I think that cost Ireland the match. Ireland might not be as good without him now, but it's not the end of Ireland being a contender for 2027.
After watching the France vs Ireland game. Crowely will change Irelands game strategy, which i think is required for evolution after the world cup. Crowely will take on more responsibility and call more shots in active play which will keep defences more alert to Crowelys presence. I think Harry Byrne is a safe option but Crowely can offer a more unpredictable approach which is more beneficial, especially because he has the skillset to handle that responsibility. Crowely is not afraid to try things and be the centre of attention which is a fresh change from Sexton. Byrne is a great option as a player can settle a game tempo if things arent going as planned. Frawley will be perma sub unless a starter in the backline is injured.
Great analysis. It's also worth mentioning Prendergast at Leinster who is looking like the spiritual successor to Sexton. This 6 Nations is too soon for him but over the next 2 years I think he will start to get some opportunities for Ireland
Can we not jump the gun and apply too much pressure on him by saying he’s the second coming of sexton. Yes he is a talented individual and looks to have a good future ahead of him, but we’ve been here several times in the last 10 years where everyone from the likes of Jackson, Carberry through to the current fly halves have all put their claim to the throne but sexton has managed to bat them all away. Prendergast will certainly be capped by Farrell, but whether he will be the no.10 for next ten years, or only get 2 or 3 caps, we’ll need to see. But everyone saying he’s sextons replacement when he’s only really started playing pro rugby this season is unfair pressure on him.
@@AlphaNevada123 I'm not putting any pressure on him whatsoever. I only said he's worth mentioning because he's looking like a good player. That's all
Potential request as a video (though only to be done if you guys have the time and energy obviously) but something on the REC's Super Sunday on the 17th of March in Paris, or like an overall recap of the REC I think would be very cool and interesting, get some eyeballs and discussion on the Tier 2 Euro Boys (and keep the Lobos hype going!) Thanks as always for all you do!
Going to be an interesting watch, especially at this stage in the world cup cycle. You'd have to think that of the two playing tonight, the team that gets its rebuild right will win the whole thing
HByrne seems to suffer the same fragility as JoeyC, picks up too many knocks. Frawley far more resilient, consistent and reliable and IMO a better choice than HByrne for both Leinster and Ireland. RossB still a presence when he comes back, but not looking good having done his shoulder in vs Munster early 2023/2024 season not seen since. But the future in both Green and Blue is undoubtedly Sam Prendergast
Crowley and Frawley aren´t afriad to take the ball forward, unlike the Byrne bros. who both treat an onrushing defensive line with something like mortal fear. You can´t blame Ross, since he´s clearly made of twigs, but Harry is just a marshmallow in a loose-fitted Leinster jersey, and nowhere near consistent enough with his goalkicking.
I think Ireland will be better without Sexton. I think the coaching staff needs to be more confident in the team. Rotate more often to increase depth. You dont need to go full strength every game, play your younger plays on occasion, and make more subs because when the going gets tough you're going to need them.
I still don't see why teams want to do a 6-2 split. Sure it works well for the Springboks as they have 5000 big enforcers who make a big impact. But Irish reserve forwards won't make an impact big enough to make it worthwhile losing the other back
Hard to guess what 'type' of Irish Team will take on France this Friday, particularly on Offense. Watching Johnny Sexton in that #10 jersey for all these years has been intense. Easily one of the greatest Irish Rugby players ever, on a par with Cameron Micheal Gibson. It's such an education tactically, watching a player with the ability to recognize situations ripe for exploitation. P.S. : Really enjoy the analysis.
Sometimes with teams I feel their star leaving can in a weird way be a benefit as it puts the side in a position where they have to work as a team and not put all their eggs in one basket, but Ireland made that work so well and it'll be a big struggle to fill the hole Jobi Fornicateton has left behind
Not really, think he was more referring to if Frawley was picked to start. Everyone thought Crowley would start and Frawley is the obvious bench option then because of the positions he can cover.
Crowley the better player, but I think Byrne should start for many of the reasons Squidge has explained about Byrne being more similar to Sexton. Crowley picked though....
It's such a great channel, thank you. I am hoping though that that's the swansong for the Sexton jokes. Very funny in the beginning, but now... not so much, just the same gag overly recycled. The guy has "sex" in his name, teeheehee.
Great video! So interested in what is making Leinster such a powerhouse in their academy system (even compared to other Irish provinces)- what is there to learn from them?
Crowley is going to get the 6N and SA tour to cement his place. Byrne isn't even Leinster starting 10 he's no chance for ireland yet. Not lived up to any of the hype for any period, got to get the club jersey first.
Shouldn't we try to develop two or maybe all three of these guys instead of doing the same thing we've done for the last almost 30 years with basically 3 mainstays? Frawly can be like a Frans Styen-type flex player that may allow a 6 2 split for Ireland and make it less Risky. Crowley also deffinitly could play in the centers if push comes to shove. the only way we'll build depth is to spread time between people. Look at the All Blacks they could have had Beaden Barrett, Mackenzie, or Mounga all starting in the 10 shirt for the World Cup final all bringing something different. if one got injured in the build-up to the final the other two could step up.
Do you think they’ll be bummed they didn’t cap Ben Healey? I also wonder if players like Joey Carberry will have a shout despite the challenges of his injury proneness?
I have been enjoying watching rugby for the last 30 year's and I still struggle to understand most of the rules! ,if you were to tell me them I would definitely be none the better!. Enjoy your broadcasts, better than Fr Ted . Going to miss Johnny Sexdrop.

That's a great idea actually 🤣

You could’ve made a seperate video out of this saying “Why Leo Cullen doesn’t pick Ciaran Frawley at 10”
At the RWC QF, it was obvious Johnny Sexton was spent after 65 minutes - but he was kept on for the last 15 minutes and I think that cost Ireland the match. Ireland might not be as good without him now, but it's not the end of Ireland being a contender for 2027.
I was in the stands in Paris; the whole squad looked cooked. Tadgh Beirne is a machine, but even he was slow as we went into the final 10 minutes.
It was held up ball that prevented them from beating the all blacks, after having to play a 1st string vs Scotland and the boks.
Full video about boiler replacement please. Thank you.
Next you'll be doing a video on whether "the wallabies can fix.... This.... *gestures vaguely at Australian rugby"
We can recreate him in the aggregate
Saber-rugby, or Money-egg.

Never thought I'd hear the day Squidge Rugby said Jolyon Sexpump's name properly. Amazing effort

Crowley has a lot of flair which makes for more exciting rugby
Great analysis. It's also worth mentioning Prendergast at Leinster who is looking like the spiritual successor to Sexton. This 6 Nations is too soon for him but over the next 2 years I think he will start to get some opportunities for Ireland
Agreed by the next World Cup in Australia I see him starting and having a healthy battle with Crowley for 10

Faz ain't going to Paris, he will go with the rest of the team to Marseille

Really loving these videos. I've always prefered this style of format anyway, and glad you're looking after yourself squidge
"Sorry, Ciarán Frawley" is such fun to revisit after Saturday's match!
Sam Prendergast is another player to look out for. He's doing bits in the U20s atm. Just has to build muscle and kearn how to tackle.
Sam. Not Cian.

You really have become quite good at this!
Frawley and Crowley are playing hahahah
You are holding onto the Jonny jokes like they are your virginity.
Great analysis as usual.. and you were right, he went for frawley... of sorts... Crowley given the opportunity to put his stamp on things
Excited for more sustainable Six Nations coverage! You guys do much to make it more enjoyable for us, you should get the chance to enjoy it too

Never know when its gonna be taken down lol
Are you as fast as square space tho? 😂
Excellent video, really one of your best
Brilliant as always Squidge.
True class and brilliant insights.

After the match I think Crowley did amazingly for his first game sure some decisions wernt the best but he’s young and he did great imo!

Squidge rugby getting in on the LRZ slander and I’m here for it.

Nauseating at this stage. Would have been a nice touch to switch to normal with his retirement.

You can´t blame Ross, since he´s clearly made of twigs, but Harry is just a marshmallow in a loose-fitted Leinster jersey, and nowhere near consistent enough with his goalkicking.
You nailed it
In fairness Harry does take it to the line but frawley is more robust needs more time at 10.

Is the 6 Nations like the rugby championship but in the cold?
It's going to be difficult for henshaw or ringrose to make the 23. Frawley can cover everywhere and means Ireland can do a 6-2 split
I still don't see why teams want to do a 6-2 split. Sure it works well for the Springboks as they have 5000 big enforcers who make a big impact. But Irish reserve forwards won't make an impact big enough to make it worthwhile losing the other back

You have to feel for Ross Byrne. If he wasn't injured, his younger brother wouldn't even be in the conversation.
Frawley is clear of either of Byrne brothers imo

Sorry now but Frawley is a clearly better 10 than Harry Byrne and possibly even Crowley so bit odd to write him off!
He's much better than Byrne, I don't know about him being better then Crowley at 10 but he is incredibly versatile in multiple positions.
