@@mmay6621 there's so many cold case where the local authority REFUSED the helps from the FBI, its really lucky in these cases covered here with competent cops and helps from the FBI. its overall higher chances to solving the crime when extra, big brain ppl r involved, and extremely bad luck for cases, where the local cops with 0 brain cell, refuse the help from the FBI and being incompetent... or covering up for their corruption. thomas brown, Taro, unsolved serial killer cases in new mexico etc. tho CIA is not law enforcement, and the statement is bit weird cuz i honestly feel why would anyone has respect on any intelligent agencies, they dont disclose what they do to the people, they are not there helping whatever going on within the countries, they are the go-to authority of doing the dirty works, and messing around in foreign land, not just US bro, i think all of them r like that.

One thing you learn in the book is that Kirby Anthoney was prime suspect of raping and strangling a 12 year old, giving her brain damage and blindness in one eye, in his home state when he moved in with his uncle and Nancy. He was fleeing from that situation, that was the reason he moved in with them. Kirby’s mother knew about him being the prime suspect in the rape and assault but didn’t warn John and Nancy Newman. Doing so would have prevented John from taking him in. Also, that Nancy’s brother in law who found the family dead and called 911 was in total shock when he made that call. He’s forever traumatized by what he saw. The children’s little gowns pulled up exposing their naked lower bodies, yes even little Angie, a detail left out of these shows. She wasn’t raped but Kirbys saliva was found all over her and trauma to her 4yr old vagina. I think he tried to rape her but she was too little. And he gave up.
Alaskan here. We’ve had some awful ones over the years. I still think of Nancy and the girls whenever I am in Anchorage. Just like remembering Samantha Koenig when passing by that coffee shop. Heartbreaking.
Yeah, I worked on the husband work comp file and he had been sent out of state so wasn't there - which allowed that piece of shit to do this. I also worked at the NW Mall bakery with a baker who had been babysat when he was little by Robert Hansen. Then in a night time college class one of my fellow students didn't show up one night. I asked where she was (I stopped watching tv April 1987 so hadn't heard) and everyone looked at me like I was from another planet because I didn't know. Seems she had a brother who did a drive by shooting and one of the guys in the car during it had told the cops so he went to jail. She and her other brother were going to get revenge so they sent some sort of bomb to the guys house and his dad got the package and ended up getting killed instead of the kid who was the target. Even stranger, when I transferred to Seattle from Anchorage I met a stock broker and became pretty good friends. He said I looked like his ex-girlfriend and we went to a few places together, as friends. I liked him but it was obvious not much affected him. I went to a place he usually hung out with at lunch (where a lot of brokers go) and he wasn't there. I asked where Fred was a another friend of his handed me a newspaper. I had to read it twice before it sunk in. He'd gotten back together with his girlfriend and ended up killing her, leaving her 8 year old son without a mother. I was taking paralegal classes and we were required to sit in on a trial and as we were walking to the court we were to observe, I saw Pam's (the bomber) name. She had been moved from AK to WA to be tried. I mentioned the backstory to a girl I was walking with. As we walked farther down the hall I saw Fred's name so again told the girl the backstory on that. I'll never forget it but she looked at me and said "What's with you?" There are too many nut jobs out there.
Robert Hanson comes to mind also. My husband helped look for the bodies because he lived out on Knik River. It was awful for him. I can just imagine how the families felt. So sad.
@@shawndouglass2939 Yeh, they said it throughout the episode. The lady rejected him and did bad things towards him n he got extremely frustrated. Crimes always have a motive and a reason behind it.
Great job by all the investigators, analysts, etc.!! Horrifying case - I'm glad Kirby Anthoney was caught before he killed or harmed anyone else. I wonder how the Newmans and Chapmans are now, I can't imagine their grief. My heart goes out to them.
If his fellow inmates give this monster the ' warm welcome ' that I am certain they will, he'll think that a death sentence would have been the better option.
Anger and retaliation is a terrible way to administer criminal justice. It's also very likely that we've executed innocent people. He will be shut away from society for the rest of his life, and prison isn't an amusement park.
@@MsFunnybags Thank you Elizabeth, it's refreshing to see a rational comment in this section. I understand why everyone would want people like him to die. Capital punishment is immoral, especially when we have many cases of innocent people being unjustly put to death.
These types of acts are so traumatic, and the fight for life so intense (with very young children there is usually an attempt to hide or to wait to be told what to do) that it's unlikely there would be much noise. The element of surprise and the severity of the situation can also render some ppl unable to speak. I once tried very hard to scream but fear had been so total no sound would come out.

Yesterday I reread "Murder In The Family" by Burl Barer. The FBI profiling done by Jud Ray was spot on in regards to Kirby Anthoney. Thankfully the profiling, and the extreme attention to the details of the crime scene and following up every lead helped convict Kirby. He is a textbook psychopath and his narcissism is off the charts - he thought he would outsmart the police and FBI. Let's hope his fellow inmates know what he did. Cases like this bring to mind "Law Abiding Citizen" style justice.
I do hope they put him in the population of the jail when they locked him up & let those big mean men take care of him & they will for what he done to those poor children & their mother . He's an evil monster .
Oh, great. In the process, you encourage and justify the psychotic behavior of those "big mean men." They're in prison to prevent crime, not have it applauded by you.
Also, they state there is evidence that the 8 year old and mother were taken to the mother's bedroom where they were assaulted. So they had to be there as each were raped by this monster. As a mother, this would kill me to be tied up and not to be able to reach out and protect my children. To be able to nearly decapitate a 3 year old is also just sickening.
I bet that when she had asked him to leave the first time she may very well have said, 'you understand, the little one feels uneasy with you here, you are going to have to find somewhere else to live', hence the reason he was so angry with the 3 year old...
@@ruthleroe6084 Why? What good does it do to keep someone locked up for 60, 70 or 80 years. It's an unnecessary expense. If it is plainly obvious, or if they've confessed and the evidence proves that they've killed someone, why make taxpayers pay to keep someone like that alive? I do agree that if the evidence doesn't support it, then confinement is just and right

There are several books and a few documentaries about the case. Ann Rule, the famous crime writer wrote a book about it. She died some years ago. She was a former cop and once a friend of Ted Bundy's.......and she wrote a book about him too.

@V S yes , you didn't follow the story.

So sad.
The nephew did it. That's gonna ruin the most closely knit of families. What a horrible case all around!

Oh my god why he killed the girls .This guy deserve very cruel death.
And raped both mother and eldest child ..... Just 8 years old.
Very sadly, he had to do this because they were both witnesses.
