I didn't expect such smooth looking combat in 'fading afternoon' due to its kind of pixel art so I thought it'd be more stiff. it was a welcomed surprise for sure. on the other hand, I was already anticipating 'detained: too good for school' and 'river city girls 2'. idk if 'immortal: and the death that follows' counts for traditional beat em up but its interesting.
As a Pole i can testify Franko is a cult game here and a lot of old timers like me are looking forward to the sequel even if its already over 30+ years.
Just finished River City Girls 2 its the first game but more and better in "almost" every way they dont lock you into brawls as much but this makes the small loading screens when going from area to area quite annoying after a while
I'm thrilled for these but I agree. Could we get a final fight with the same engine used in resident evil 2 remake? Ooo or a Shaolin monks 2 with the engine in mortal Kombat 11?
@@aweirdredtoad3637 Nah mate, not missing anything that makes me bored. besides, I haven't played much about NES games lately, so if I want pixel retro, I got a ton of NES libary for real nostalgic feeling. It's only matter of time that cheap pixel games from indies will bore the world of gamers. Once more, the great morndern engines shall rule the galaxy, and we shall have peace...
Can't wait for River City Girls 2. Hope Glenn from RCR:U is an unlockable or future DLC. Pizza Kidd's demo was fun, but I hope they smooth out the gameplay in the time between now and its release. I hope Detained is fight/arcade stick friendly on release. I have a lot of fun playing these kind of games that way. Dicey Krime, Box Knight, Maiden Cops, and Underling Uprising look to have some freestyle potential. I vehemently wish we'd get new updates to Nightmare Cops. It's been far too long. Have you heard of Dragon Blazers by Sylph? That's a beat 'em up that deserves some looking into.
Hello I'm looking for a game similar to this. The main character is a lil boy with a man bun hair cut. I really can't remember if the game is a kind of pixel art like "Tales of the neon sea" and the enemies are kinda zombies. If anyone here knows the tile please let me know.
Fading Afternoon is going to be brilliant if The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa was anything to go by. Wasn't a fan of the the other game Yeo did (Stone Buddah?) But overall he's a great creator when it comes to atmosphere
I've been following Fallen City Brawl for a while, I really liked the aesthetic, and is definitely the beat-em-up I'm looking forward to the most atm! It had a failed kickstarter years ago, so I was really disappointed that it didn't reach funding, but I was thrilled when I learned that they were able to continue development regardless!
Super Brawl Rush: Please plenty of PIXEL CRIMSON FOUNTAINS !!! River City Girls 2 just gets the BEST PIXEL ART ANIMATION - Most of the other titles here could learn from that for the Beat'Em -Up Genre. Awesome. And it totally multiplies that good ness with 4 play mad ness !!!! FADING AFTERNOON !!!!! OMG !! Perhaps my favourite title out in indie-games right now: This Black Rain meets Hard-Boiled meets Takeshi "BEAT" Kitano in perfect pixel bloodletting dreamland.... This dev is a artistic genius.
I’m not a huge fan of these games, it’s like grinding in an RPG but you don’t get XP…they’re are too repetitive. Are there any roguelike beat ‘em ups? I can imagine that being a lot more fun
@@aweirdredtoad3637 Oh, I think I just found out what “your past coming back to haunt you” feels like 😬… over the last 6 months, I’ve actually come to find a few of these that I like. I still think the majority of them are hot garbage, which is why I had such a bad attitude about them. I thought they were all the same exact game with slightly different looking characters, and thought everyone was too dopey to realize it! It’s kinda like how people who play sports games will essentially be buying the same game every year to see different names printed on the back of the players. They do change the game when new consoles release, then- ohh, a little cut/paste here… a little bit of coding there, aaaaand VIOLA! Time to sit back and ride that wave for the next 6 years or so, while sipping martinis and eating fish eggs on a cracker! Anyway, Repetendium, Hive corp and Heroes of loot: gauntlet of power are super fun! But they also do 2 things very different from the clones out there- 1. It’s not just a barren wasteland with endless enemies, there are actually set pieces in your way, and some are interactive. If you like these types of games, then I’d imagine you’d like them more than me, because they were enough to completely change my mind about the entire genre!
Thanks a lot. Most of the games presented here are depressing. I understand that making large, modern 3D game projects in the genre of Beat’Em Up is expensive, difficult and time consuming. But there must be a desire for development, beauty and harmony. Alas, even after the release of landmark projects, such as SOR4, Sifu, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, the revival of the genre, we do not observe. Why don't big, official developers release games in this genre, they have all the resources to do so. They refer to the lack of demand for such games and their monotony. But you can mix this genre with other arcade genres: Shoot’Em Up, Hack’N’Slash, Vehicular Combat. Add a system for pumping movements, combinations, super attacks. Will be very cool and interesting.
It's not because the genre is difficult or expensive, beat em ups aren't popular as it used to be. Only few games from the genre prosper due to them being spin offs or sequels to fanchises.
@@aweirdredtoad3637 I agree with you, although it’s a very sad situation. Beat’Em Ups are dying, but only a few number of their fans, like me, want new releases of this genre. Especially with modern, 3D graphics, modern features.
Many thx for featuring Pizza Kid/Bucaneers/Rotwood on here--everything here except for Skinny & Franco has potential, but those three are the top of my Watchlist for me
I am so happy that the beat em up genre is having a renaissance.
absolotely. I feel its alot of people who where kids in the old flash game days now grown and started making cool things because they can.

It is out just recently, it plays even better than Mother Russia Bleed imho, well done guys! Greetings from 🍕 land.
9:44 Dang, that soundtrack is awesome! 🤤
Take a drink every time he says "post-apocalyptic."
Detained: too good for school has a “Rival School” kind of vibe.
a little!
Fallen City Brawl is definitely cool
@Best Indie Games What happened to Curse of the Pirate Rats, isnt it a kinda Best-em-up?

Am gutted fading afternoon is not available for Xbox 😢 it looks amazing with an incredible soundtrack
looking forward to fading afternoon and river city girls 2
tbh, I am kind of sick and tired of the pixel art games now, can we have some unreali engine 3D beat them ups that actually looks 2023?

Goodluck with that, you'll just miss out on good games with that mentality.

Fading afternoon. This is 𝚜𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚘𝚞𝚜.
Waiting for River City Girls 2. First part was a masterpiece, with all those combos and excellent combat in general as well as amazing soundtracks.
Never played or heard about it but the trailer for the 2nd part got me interested. Gonna be giving it a try
Thank you so much, Clement!! 🙏🍕 We hope you enjoy the new updates we will be submitting to IGF and Steam Next Fest 2023! Stay Tuned 👊🦾

A very diverse and beautiful art styles in here, I enjoyed watching this video a lot, thank you very much 😊
Cool list also I have a recommendation if interested it's called house of pain it's a horror beat em up on steam
Thanks for the rec
I know this isnt in the same genre but I am super excited for WrestleQuest
It looks good!
Let the good times and the punches roll in 2023. My fists of fury are ready.
Beat em ups are my thing. I'll be picking up more than half of these.
This is kind of disappointing because many of these games are on STEAM only.... I want more PS4 releases! Thanks for the informative video!
I love these games. I hope they all turn out really awesome on release although I think thats wishful thinking on my part.
Bro no disrespect but all these games look like Flash games, dope video still
De que consola son los juegos

Wow... Down in the Dark looks amazing.
final fight, punisher, dino and cad, simpsons...the best, wish they had a new game.

That's not quite true, some of them do have XP or an equivalent, e.g. River City Girls has enemies drop money which is used to buy new moves and such.
I get what you mean, but roguelike beat em ups would get as repetitive as the rpg beat em ups you don't like.
