one of the loveliest, most poignant numbers ever written by Noel, sung superlatively by Julie. who could ask for anything more? and the arrangement, and the production. glad it is here for us to enjoy. nothing as good as this will ever happen again. sadly.
The movie "STAR!" really shows in many ways what a brillinat actress Julie Andrews is!! Just look at her "clock-movement" when she is singing "as soon as the clock goes round"...very theatrical.
Quintessential 1920s! Beverley Nichols said he would never forget hearing Gertrude Lawrence singing this song. I am sure she was magnificent, but it is hard to imagine anything better than Julie. She really does understand the age which gave birth to this music. Brilliant performance.
Julie Andrews did this number better than either Noell Coward or Gertrude Lawrence. Her diction is sharper, her voice, as always, more melodious, and she truly captured that uniquely Francophanic melancholia.
It is strange that this clip from Star! hasn't had more comments. Star! has many stage scenes with Julie, some are humorous, some feature beautiful singing but I often come back to this one. This is not just entertainment it is ART. From the initial "nod" to Toulouse-Lautrec to the downbeat ending. Can you think of anyone these days that could combine such singing, acting and dancing all to the highest standard? I can't.
the answer is no. this is, truly, ART, in a movie that was too long, left out Bea Lillie, and so on. but this number, and the Jenny number, we are lucky to have from a lumbering musical with bad-timing in it conception and release, and so forth. glad it's here for this, most certainly.
Parisian pierrot, society's hero The lord of the day, the Rue de la Paix Is under your sway The world may flatter but what does that matter? They'll never shatter your bloom profound Parisian pierrot, your spirit's at zero Divinely forlorn, with exquisite scorn From sunset to dawn The limbo is calling, your star will be falling As soon as the clock goes round Parisian pierrot, your spirit's at zero Divinely forlorn, with exquisite scorn From sunset to dawn The limbo is calling, your star will be falling As soon as the clock goes round
Everyone before said everything so I’ll just say that I used to own a Pierrot costume and it was my favourite. When you watch the entire film these scenes are even better.

I can't think either of such talent nowadays! This woman is really a STAR!
I can't & am most certain there will never ever be any STAR like Julie! She is the complete package! She never disappoints!
You are so right Chris. This is the number that made me fall in love with the entire film.Julie is ethereal.Thank you.

Myself I love Burlington Bertie from Bow - how does she DO that stuff. I'd trip over the blessed hat and end up with my face in it ..
In my opinion, the best number from Star! (and there were many great ones)
Parisian pierrot, society's hero
The lord of the day, the Rue de la Paix
Is under your sway
The world may flatter but what does that matter?
They'll never shatter your bloom profound
Parisian pierrot, your spirit's at zero
Divinely forlorn, with exquisite scorn
From sunset to dawn
The limbo is calling, your star will be falling
As soon as the clock goes round
Parisian pierrot, your spirit's at zero
Divinely forlorn, with exquisite scorn
From sunset to dawn
The limbo is calling, your star will be falling
As soon as the clock goes round
wow!

Moi je suis Arlequin j'adore Arlequin
B R A V O !!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the video?
I just realized the costume looks like the Yama Yama Man
Moliere created the character Pierrot for a play produced in 1665. Yama Yama Man is from 1908.
