  • Iran, ensnared by its mountainous borders, now faces multifaceted threats from all directions and their strategic position is becoming increasingly perilous along every axis. Neighbours like Azerbaijan and Pakistan now pose mounting challenges to national stability, while inaction also risks problems fermenting elsewhere. As Iran's now overstretched military copes with multiple engagements across the region already, the Iranian military, defence industry and IRCG are being warned that they must undergo structural reforms or be crushed from all sides. But will the Iranian military embrace the reforms, will recent tensions in the Caucasus draw Iran into the conflict, and would a deepening relationship with Russia or China salvage Iran's hard-fought strategic gains? We ask our panel of experts

Great episode! Interesting watching this after the events in Israel this week.
By the way, the timings for the parts are wrong, part two begins at 25:46 for example (not 28:46). Also, for the hyperlink to work over an hour in, you should write 1:07:23, not 67:23. But I think the conclusion actually begins at 1:02:20

Always interesting, thought-provoking. But if I may suggest what I think would be a source of improvement for the quality, scope and depth of your work in general, I would like to see a greater diversity of guests. They tend to issue from a certain end of the political spectrum (case in point in this episode the American Enterprise Institute which are in IMO more ideologically driven than pragmatic on many issues) and from the Anglosphere which while globally dominant has peculiar intellectual blind-spots. There are many experts who speak English fluently without being Anglo-cultural themselves and I think their perspectives would add great value to your discussions.

Always fascinating. Been wondering about the rhetoric of Greater Azerbajan given recent events-if they could secure southern Azeri regions, there would be no need to attack Armenia considering how Iranian Azeri regions already connect the two halves. Either way, this is definitely something I hope to see more people talk about.

"civilian government" and "theological government" 😅
I'm sorry, but this so called "expert" doesn't know what he is talking about. Everyone who lived in Iran knows these two are actually the same .
Seriously, pentagon is paying 6-figure salaries to these guys to "research" Middle East 😂

You've gotta start bringing people in that aren't all on the same side politically speaking. It hurts the credibility of the entire show.

The Duran also only brings anti-Westerners etc. marginals. I'd like for both sides to meet and have a debate, but no need to give ground if there's no reciprocity.
And frankly, this podcast is already more towards a neutral, academical side than purely politically tainted and one-sided.

They would never do that because they don't want people listens to the other side...exactly like mainstream medias that have been one sided for decades and now totally losing their credibility
